  1. The buzz around this album is huge, particularly here in the UK. It was only a few days ago some people on here were claiming the UK does not love her any more, time for them to eat their words. The article on the BBC is also unusual in that I cant recall such a story in recent times around the release of any artists album.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-17297661

Ok we still need it to sell, but given that the reviews I can see this being big.

Does anyone know how many albums have been pre-ordered in the UK? I am guessing enough to take it straight to number 1?

Its a good time to be a Madonna fan.

  2. Wow, LOL at all the people saying that Hyde park was a flop. Now that it's sold out we might get the Birmingham date eveyone is waiting for ;)

I dont think we were under any illusions it would not sell out, but I still think its a bad choice of venue at a particularly bad time. I get the feeling Live Nation thought they would get two nights in London, but thats not going to happen now.

  3. So basically its a Kylie situation - LACK OF DEMAND.

    :lmao:

I would not go quite that far as she has sold out Murrayfield Stadium. This proves if she goes outside London there is the demand. Live Nation should look at a couple of arena shows elsewhere in the UK. I bet they would sell.

  4. I think a lot of Madonna fans are at an age where they dont want to stand in a park for hours (i know i dont) or have to get there at 6am for a good spot. It will really put a lot of people off. I believe Live Nation have fucked up with this choice of venue.

  5. Emeriates Stadium? Interesting.. never knew football grounds were used much for concerts, London isn't exactly short of venues.

it is short as venues prepare for the Olympics. I think it is her choice of venue and the timing, as well as the prices for basically a concert in the park. As I said before, she should have come back to London at the end of the European leg and played a few dates in the O2.

  6. For a FIRST single in 4 years with that much hype and exposure to crawl it's way into the charts like it has would be awarded the FLOP OF THE YEAR by many people here if it belonged to a couple OTHER singers people around here hate.

It's funny how fans react when the tables are turned  they become loons just like all the other "crazy fanz omg".

    Oh well. Anyway...

At this moment in the UK its a flop. There is no getting away from it and anyone who says otherwise is as deluded as certain fans of other pop divas who blamed the weather and the closure of Woolworths for flopping singles. She needs to put as much effort into promoting this music as she did into promoting W.E in Europe.

  7. I think it's harder for the Brits to give up on chart positions as Madonna has performed consistently since 1984. Before Miles Away peaked at 39 her lowest performing single was, I think, Oh Father at No. 16, 16 years ago. In the US, singles have failed to hit the charts on so many occasions for so long, it's less of a surprise.

We've now got to go through a grieving process. :p

But yes, I'm sure she'll do some promotion when the album comes round. However, with Radio 1 and 2 not showing any interest in her, who's going to show any interest in the album promotion? Breakfast TV? :(

Radio 2 would bite their own hands off to have her on a show. Steve Wright would cream himself if she came on. She could also chose Tracks of my Years with Ken Bruce. I see a Madonna week coming on, if only she showed some interest in it.

  8. Exactly. GMAYL is the lead single and was supposed to kickstart the album.

But she has done no proper promotion here for the music. The Superbowl was massive in the US but not here. She needs to get her arse over here and into Europe to do some promotion. She did it for the film so now its time to do it for the tour and the music.

Ideally she should play the Brit Awards, but as this is on Tuesday, its a bit late.

  9. Right can someone clear this up for me once and for all. Sorry for asking again. We know the pre-ordered albums will be added to her first week sales figures so MDNA is likely to hit number 1 in the UK. What about the single that went with the album. Will those sales be rounded up at that time, possibly meaning it will go top ten, or have the figures been completely discounted never to be seen again? I was charged 99p for the single that came with the album.

  10. I find this thread hilarious only from the assumption that some people think Guy Ritchie is some popular icon in the UK. He is and always was a joke. An upper class guy trying to pass himself off as a mock cockney geezer. He has had a couple of successful films, but he is more famous for who he married (and divorced), and the divorce certainly has done nothing to dent Madonna's popularity. If anything the fact they are good friends and have worked to have a good post divorce relationship for the sake of their children has only added to admiration for her.

Madonna has always been up and down, but lets face it, she does not resonate with youngsters anymore. People are also missing the point the single has sold enough to be top 10 but has been excluded from this because of stupid chart rules.

The album will be number 1 and that in itself will generate interest, but she does need good promotion which is what is lacking here and over Europe at the moment.

As for the Hyde Park show, if I lived in London I would not go to it because its all standing. I work in London on a monthly basis, but have said to my office that i will not be travelling there July or August this year until the Olympics is done as the place will be a nightmare to travel within and to find accommodation. Live Nation should have thought of this and have her return to London at the end of the European leg for a few arena shows, and done another couple of arenas meantime elsewhere in the UK. Hotels in London are expensive enough without adding in the extra people travelling in for the Olympics and / or big concert events. Look at Edinburgh, four star hotels are wanting 220 pounds a night when she is playing Murrayfield because of the amount of people travelling in.

  11. I wish she would play multiple nights at Wembley Arena like she did on the CT.

That was just amazing, 8 sellouts. It felt much more up close and personal than a stadium

or field. I would be happy paying top dollar for an arena show. The lights and sound are much

better in an indoor arena. You feel like you get your money's worth.

Its impossible in the summer in London. The Olympics has sucked up most venues. She would have been better by-passing London during the summer, doing another couple of UK shows in areas where she has not been (Edinburgh has shown there is demand outside London, and I have never known so many people to be going to a particular concert, everyone I talk to is either going to the show in Edinburgh or knows someone who is going, and almost every hotel on the 21st July is full). She should go back to London after the Olympics is over to the O2.

  12. Hyde Park, London still has not sold out. I think this is her slowest selling show in the UK so far. Capacity for other gigs there was 65,000. :(

Does anyone know how many tickets have been sold so far? Personally I would not go to a gig where the only option was to stand and I think that will be putting a lot of people off as well. At 5' 5" small, I would not see a thing.

  13. All the standing tickets and cheap seats at Edinburgh have gone.

    It is proving popular!

And what seems to be left is at the back of the stadium. So glad it has done well. Cant wait now! Scotland will go wild for her.

This show will also set the record for the biggest single gross in Scotland. 50,000+ tickets sold at her average will blow everyone else out the water.

  14. Very well I think. No standing left and shitty pairs of seats up the very back corners (for 90 quid  )

Great. I just dont want the whole "madonna plays to half empty venue" headline. Looks like it will be far from that. Standing alone must be 10,000 +?
