  1. When it comes down to it it is my favorite because I'm old school; I like bands and the actual persona to put on a show. Though I love screens and background videos, I prefer to see the band and its lead singer.

  2. I adore this- but one relevant questions is this....she is a gorgeous woman. No doubt about it- but all the brilliant air brushing- won't that age her more as she gets older (candid/papparazzi photos, etc.)

It will be a damn shame the day the majority of people can't tell reality from fantasy.

Madonna in the photos doesn't look that airbrushed to me; I've seen recent candids of her (the ones with her and Lola where people say she resembles Winslet) and she looks the same in the photos to me as in the candids. No more airbrushed than an 18 year old in their magazine spreads.

I think what is most important is that you can still see her spirit and soul in the pics. You can have all the airbrushing in the world, and all the plastic surgeries in the world, and you run the risk of losing your essence; from what I see in the photos, she still has her essence. I still get those butterflies in my stomach when I see a photo of Madonna. It's like this jab of "wow. stunning."

    After all these years! :p

  3. Do you know how hard it is to win an Oscar? Getting nominated in the first place is hard enough.

Of course I know how hard it is to win an Oscar. Madonna is putting all her energy into this project, it almost feels like the Bedtime Stories/Evita era all over again. Why shouldn't she do an above average job and deserve an Oscar? I've admired Madonna for 16 years and I've loved her and hated her, but above all have learned to respect her. I've learned to expect the unexpected from her at all times. I don't know her. I just know when she is most ambitious because she disappears for a while lol. And she's been gone for a while now!

I really subjectively and objectively don't think Madonna is a bad actress. I think she's just stuck in the wrong decades. She is more old hollywood in her acting. it doesn't mean it's bad, it just doesn't fit. But I enjoy old hollywood so i enjoy her acting.

However, I don't underestimate Madonna's learning power. Once she understands something she shines and gives pop culture the KO it needs. Age won't cause her to relinquish that.

  4. You know what is really baffling about people judging Madonna's looks based on photographs is that....have any of them seen her in person?? In concert? She looks impeccable. Nothing like in her pics. Which goes to show you people would rather believe a paparazzi pic over the real thing in person. It's so freaking strange to me that one can be brainwashed so easily like that.

  5. no one ever seems to mention dangerous game/snake eyes on here. is it universally hated? even though it's heavy going i quite like it. i think it has some of madonna's best acting and she's really sexy in parts and totally fucked up in others! i'd love to know which parts are real

The movie is good; i don't like the rape scene though. I don't like to watch that for some reason. I saw a movie in the theater once, it was a horror movie, i forgot the name. But these criminals rape a woman in the woods in front of her friends. I had to walk out of the theater.

I think Dangerous Game, Swept Away, and The Next Best Thing are Madonna movies I can watch over and over. And This USed To Be My Playground.

  6. Madonna... one day you will get that Oscar you rightfully deserve. :chuckle:

I have a feeling she will win an Oscar in the not so far future.

I actually love Swept Away. When I tell people all my favorite movies, which include Being John Malcovich, Memento, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Elegy, and so forth, then I get to Swept Away, people think I'm joking but I'm not!

It actually makes me cry, laugh, and not because of the "bad acting." I didn't find it to be bad at all. I enjoy old hollywood movies and appreciate Madonna sort of coming from that technique in her acting.

Whether she wins one for acting or for directing, I'm sure she'll win.

  7. see here

Is it possible to be a female pop star and not rip off Madonna?

    gaga.jpg

I absolutely believe it's possible; but because Madonna is so relevant in the pop music industry, it's going to take someone who genuinely thinks outside of the box and organically has his or her finger on the pulse of the cultural subconscious to do this. KEY WORDS are organically and genuinely

We live in a lazy culture where money dictates creativity and respect more than ever; for example: reality stars replaced real actors = they are cheap and bring ratings; the internet replaced real journalism = who needs college when you can blog ? recycle old, surefire successful ideas: movie remakes, song samples, and Madonna wannabes come to mind.

There's very little thought that goes into art anymore. Technology has taken away the importance of using your brain. It's going to take someone very special to change the scene around. To me, Madonna is still this person.

  8. I didn't see that many references to Madonna. I only saw Vogue and Xstatic Process, maybe some Express Yourself and Evita as well. And I heard a resemblance to La Isla Bonita in the middle of the song with the drums. Everything else seemed like it was inspired by films and paintings. And that was in the one time I saw the video, and I really wasn't reaching...I honestly saw it with an open mind!

  9. This is a tough one because I only went to the Reinvention and Sticky Sweet tours, and they both were super exciting. And my top two are The Girlie Show and The Confessions Tours. Blond Ambition had great moments, so did Who's That Girl. So, perhaps the Virgin tour is the least exciting to me; I think it's fair to choose this one since it was her first, and her tours just kept getting bigger from then.

  10. Did she really say she looks like Madonna? Wow.

If so, I'm just so glad I was never a fan. Delusional does not begin to cover her, with her saying her album went diamond, her gloating about #1 singles, and now this? She really has no qualms about lying does she? I'm starting to believe she is a sociopath, and it wouldn't surprise given the company she keeps (I'm telling you guys, that's very key to someone's character). The scary thing is that people believe her.

  11. That was the style back then. Everyone dressed that way. The Lower East Side was filled with Disco/Punk kids with altered hand me down or thrift shop clothes. They were poor and struggling and passionate. Madonna just became the model for that look and feel. She represented it best.

So sad that there is no art scene in NYC anymore. That was a beautiful time for the big apple.

  12. I'm sure he knows who Madonna is. My little nieces and nephews know who she is and they are his age and younger and I will add, sheltered. Madonna is always on the news and on the internet and Lady Gaga is constantly compared to Madonna.

Now, what I want to know is, who is this kid?? Is he that youtube kid that did the Paparazzi talent show performance? Oh boy. Finish school, kid.

  13. I love M.I.A. the same way I love Madonna. She has some sort of early M in her style, and IT WORKS. I think this is because M.I.A. genuinely has something to say. Her life has been an amazing, crazy, political one. But of course she is not as mainstream as she should be for many reasons in my opinion which I will keep out of forums.

And when I hear M.I.A.'s songs, I believe her in this Madonna quote.

  14. :rotfl: Ya right..they stepped back because Brit stopped acting crazy.

this thread is a mess I love it

Yes this thread is pretty messy. oy. Started falling asleep reading it.

It's cute though to read people being so passionate on here. Hope that passion is invested in your real lives though, where it counts.

I think people pit M against the girl because the media started it, and people obey the media like zombies.

Aside from a few songs, I can't get into her, but has nothing to do with the Madonna comparisons.
