  1. madonna: holiday, borderline, lucky star

like a virgin: into the groove, like a virgin, dress you up

true blue: papa don't preach, open your heart, true blue

like a prayer: like a prayer, express yourself, love song

erotica: where life begins, bad girl, waiting and erotica

bedtime stories: take a bow, survival, bedtime story

ray of light: ray of light, swim and drowned world, frozen

music: music, what it feels like for a girl, don't tell me

american life: love profusion, american life, hollywood

confessions on a dance floor: hung up, get together, forbidden love

hard candy: 4 minutes, give it 2 me, devil wouldn't recognize you

mdna: gang bang, i'm addicted, love spent

  2. madonna: physical attraction

like a virgin: over and over

    true blue: nil

    like a prayer: love song

erotica: waiting and where life begins

    bedtime stories: survival

ray of light: swim and sky fits heaven

music: runaway lover and i deserve it

    american life: n/a

confessions on a dance floor: forbidden love and future lovers

hard candy: devil wouldn't recognise you and dance 2night

mdna: gang bang, i'm addicted and love spent

  3. like a virgin is my least favourite madonna album.

i didn't like her eyebrows during the true blue era because it seemed too manly.

i don't think that much of like a prayer (the album).

i don't like her soundtrack albums, save for a few songs.

i prefer the immaculate collection version of like a prayer than the studio album version.

i felt that the girlie show was quite draggy.

music (the album) sounds a little boring sometimes.

i felt that they could have done a much better job with ghv2.

i actually like american life (the song), including the rap.

i think confessions tour is her best tour ever and that future lovers/i feel love was the best tour opener ever.

i loved her sound on the confessions tour dvd even though it seemed processed.

sticky and sweet tour felt like a half hearted job.

i absolutely loathe the singles choices on mdna.

turn up the radio is to martin solveig's hello as robin thicke's blurred lines is to give it 2 me.

love spent sounds way too processed.

  4. Just posted on the BBC site: Former Pink Floyd star Roger Waters' tour has topped worldwide concert ticket sales for the first half of 2012. The Wall Live, based on the band's hit 1970s album, took $158.1m (£102.3m) beating Bruce Springsteen and Madonna. Waters sold 1.4 million tickets according to Pollstar magazine, which tracks the live concert business. Springsteen, whose ticket sales stand at $79.9m (£51.7) currently, could overtake Waters by the end of the year. "While Waters still has a few Walls left to build on his itinerary, Springsteen also has along way to go before the end of the Wrecking Ball tour, and still could finish with the year's top outing," wrote the magazine. Madonna, who - in third place - has topped $42m (£27.2m) in ticket sales worldwide, "also has an outside shot", as her tour has yet to reach the US. Full article: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-18826218

lol great analysis, now let me do it.

the wall live: $158.1 million in 63 shows. 9 more shows for the next half of the year. total gross roughly equals no fucking chance, ~$162 million.

wrecking balls tour: $79.9 million in 38 shows. 29 more shows for the next half of the year. total gross roughly equals no fucking chance either, ~$140 mllion

mdna tour: based on press release on 19 april, bitch please, sold $214 million in tickets already.

Ok, I'm being selfish right now, but I wish she finishes the tour in january. I want her to attend the Grammy's in february, make her film and go back to studio asap. I cant think of being without her more 4 damn years! But she can manage to tour australia and some dates in asia all in january!

    what film?

  5. If M does take the tour to Asia, I could see her doing stadiums.

She'll probably do the following venues-

    National Stadium- Singapore

    Philippine Arena- Manila

Kai Tak Airport Site- Hong Kong

    Taipei Dome- Taipei

    Seoul Dome- Seoul

    Saitama Super Arena- Saitama

    Nissan Stadium- Yokohama

    National Stadium- Beijing

    Shanghai Stadium- Shanghai

    :asian:

singapore's national stadium is now torn down. the next best, indoor stadium, is too small for her. she could only use padang, which is an open field which can accomodate up to 50000 people.

  6. then again i have another worry. in s&s, the north american shows sold 680k+ tickets in 30 shows, with 8 stadium shows. for the mdna north american shows, there are 44 shows, with 4 being stadium shows. so there should be around 770k tickets for the north american shows this time. with 97% of it sold, nearly 750k are sold already. the middle eastern shows have a capacity of 30000x2 for tel aviv, 22000x2 for abu dhabi and 50000 for istanbul, and is mostly sold out, probably selling near 150k already. 1.4 million tickets are sold in the 76 shows. minusing the middle eastern and north american shows, around nearly 520k tickets would have already been sold for the european shows. in s&s europe, she did 42 shows inclduing 37 stadium shows, with total 1.98 million tickets sold. and in mdna europeean shows, she's doing 28 shows including 17 stadiums, calculated out by me to be a capacity of around 1 million. so only over 50% of the european tickets are sold. is that not a good sign?

  7. Per usual....thanks for the info groovyguy! :) I'm glad we finally got to see a real breakdown/comparison of the numbers. I find it interesting that between Robbie Williams, Jay-Z and Madonna, Madonna got the lowest advance at $120 million. I was also surprised to see that Robbie Williams deal was made back in 2002!? I had no idea that these 360 deals were being made that long ago. Why was it highly publicized that Madonna was the first to do this??

Seeing the breakdown in numbers, it's no wonder things are the way they are. Since the focus is going to be on tours, here is to hoping M and her team will find new and innovative ways of presenting her music each time she tours to keep things fresh.

So Madonna would have to sell like 35-40 million copies of MDNA to equal what she would make on tour!

Not enough promo in the world!!

robbie williams deal was for 4 albums. madonna's and jay-z's were for 3 each. jay-z's included roc nation, but madonna's didn't. and madonna's doesn't include copyrights, unlike robbie williams. so in terms of value madonna's could be the highest.

  8. Yes but if I'm not mistaken the deal is for 3 albums and (I'm guessing) 3 tours.

She's already done one tour (2 if you count MDNA Tour as it will be underway shortly) and one album, which leaves 2 albums and 1 tour to take her up to 2017. Unless the number of tours is 4.

I'm speculating here - please correct me if anyone knows better.

the numbers of tours is 4. it was signed in 2007, and sticky and sweet was the first.

  9. I've actually given this serious thought as a new business model for the music industry. I mean, it seems like nobody really buys records anymore, so why not find a new way to support the artists? In exchange for their investment, shareholders could have first crack at new music and concert tickets and could even help make management decisions if they own enough (just like investing in a company).

Madonna would trade pretty high on this hypothetical exchange, I'd think. She wouldn't be the absolute highest priced (those would be the, err, flavors of the moment), but she'd be a very solid blue chip stock. :p

i do think its a possible model if there was an alternative stock exchange just for music acts alone. i did, however, check out the listing requirements for nasdaq from here: http://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/121.asp#axzz1rjM1kEcX

the minimum bid price, shareholders and trade volume would be more than easy to reach. as for having one of the next 3 listing standard, madonna easily meets the first. she can shake her legs and easily earn more than $11 million yearly, and of course it's unlikely she would have a net loss in a fiscal year.

in other words, if madonna was a company, she can easily be listed on nasdaq lol.

@guyoseary A tour doesn't help album sales. It's tv appearance and live performances that do.

    14h Madonna Knights Madonna Knights ‏ @MadonnaKnights

@guyoseary with mdna tour :-D yes

well it seems as if guy oseary has something never before seen, extraordinary and spectacular up the sleeves to use mdna to highly promote the album. but im not holding much hope for it.

I wonder if they get their album cut from US ticket sales regardless if they are redeemed. I have a feeling this was all 100% worked out beforehand so that everyone would be happy.

i do think interscope does take a percentage cut of the album part of the ticket sales since they say it's already included in the bundle. if they don't, maybe interscope would complain.

Well isn't Madonna Guy's only client (you can tell). If her income goes down so does his percentage.

lol guy oseary has nothing to fear. madonna will probably be earn usd$200 million when forbes june 2013 celeb 100 list comes out. without oprah being a huge earner now that her cable channel is underperforming, maybe madonna will top for once.

I remember that $1M figure, but not sure where it came from. That's extremely low. Besides, there's no way Interscope has only spent on $1M on MDNA. $1M probably didn't even pay for the music videos, let alone the TV ads, print ads, online marketing, etc. and the actual production of the album.

i don't think that amount was to produce the album. it was more of distribution and some marketing only. the marketing part was probably handled together with live nation, since they also promoted give me all your luvin' to death on the radio. some figures also say $10 million for each album, but i'm also skeptical, since live nation and madonna will both take a cut of the sales, making it a lot less profitable for interscope.

  11. i think this non-traditional campaign has flopped, and the only thing stopping mdna from flopping hard is madonna as a brand. the thing is if they want a non-traditional promo to work, they have got to have the goods to back it up so that the momentum can roll on. true, mdna is a good album, but the singles released are just subpar. the first contact anyone will ever have with the album is the single. if the single is mediocore, it just pulls down the desire of the general public to want to get the album. m's team has so many better songs on mdna to choose from, why did they have to choose what they chose?!! if they recognise madonna as a strong brand name, they should know that as long as the song they throw out is very good, people will go for it no matter how uncommercial it may sound, cause well, it's madonna! what's more, do they really intend to rely all on the non-traditional promo? they need to at least have a fall back plan, to promote it with performances and interviews on tv. they can do less of it, but still do it! how can the tour be a reason to cut down on these? the tour can start a month later, and the tickets can still be sold right after superbowl. there would be almost no effect since they can continue to add shows into 2013. the promo however can't wait. once it loses steam it's hard to pick up. and they also lose the chance to hit at any of the chart records. since madonna holds so many records, the right thing to do should be to extend and/or break these records, cause there's no more madonna after she dies. if madonna promoted to death her love child w.e, then why can't she promote mdna? is it not her love child too? is she too love spent from w.e? if only madonna could list herself as a stock and we can own a piece of her lol.
