The only people calling it a flop (QUEEN BITCH) are the ones who dislike the song. Rather transparent, wouldn't you say.
More like I'm being proved RIGHT - I don't like recent number 1s by Duffy and Adele but I can see why they were massive hits - I don't like 4 Minutes because it's CRAP, hence it FLOPPING in the UK.
-
Oh good grief! How many singles have reached #1 on downloads alone? Relatively few! 4M has been on the airwaves for two weeks.....
That's a faulty arguement, downloads are the biggest format as far as the UK singles chart goes, combined physical sales for the entire year are less than 1 million copies so Madonna is FLOPPING.
What's more, the STUPID CUNTS aren't putting the video out until next week. She'll be out of the top 10 by Sunday.
-
Totally shocked that she's managed top 3, especially after one week. It would be cool if she made number 1.
-
And the vid is premiering on fri, but when is it goin to be added to music channels?
The music channels add new videos on Fridays with the exception of Flaunt, which adds them as they're released.
However, this is a lead single from a major act so it should trumpeted with a special, televised slot, not just appear with all the ohter new vids on the music channels.
-
It's a in the UK. Momentum should be building and it's not. I think HC will be her first studio album to miss the top spot in the UK in 14 years.
-
whilst I agree that the project was geared for the US audiences, that's no reason why it should TANK in Europe. Justin and Timbaland have both have massive hits here - fact is, 4 Minutes is below the standards of all acts concerned.
-
A performance on GMTV, that's what's NEEDED
-
I think that Hard Candy will explode with Give it to me in UK.
Just like American Life did with Hollywood.
You know a project is in trouble when fans are talking about the second single being the key release, just weeks after the lead had premiered.
-
However, something tells me that something about 4M simply isn't catching on with the general British public.
What is there to CATCH ON; essentially it's shit - I've tried to find something likeable about it but all I can say is that it's a well produced mixture of sounds.
-
Madonna needs to get a video out soon or this song is going to flop. I agree with the comment that this could tank HC.
They also need to bring forward the physical single - I'm guessing this is going to go TITS UP, especially if the reviewers decide to take the line that the lead single has flopped so the album must be shite.
I am not sure how 4M is being received in the US but it could be that 4M will be a bigger hit in the US than the UK, which hasn't happened for ages. That would be the most IRONIC thing she's ever done.
And as for the comments about taking the Britney vs Kylie posts elsewhere well.....I am with QB....as they are all chart and sales related. However, there was one valid point made about the forum being under the Madonna section, it needs to be moved to the General section.
-
Charming Like it or not, thebigham leads this forum and he has the right to steer the discussion in whatever direction he deems appropriate (hence his intervention earlier).
And it's inappropriate to try and 'steer' a forum in a direction that suits himself - it's a chart discussion forum - and this thread is about the UK singles chart, not the performance (or should I say underperformance) of 4 Minutes on the UK singles chart. Had someone been discussing Kylie and Britney's performance on the US chart in the thread, he'd have had a point but they weren't and he DIDN'T.
END OF.
-
The song's shit anyway but Warners fuck up means the album will undoubtedly TANK.
-
Hmmmm....I think one of the forum leaders has the right to say what's acceptable and what's not, even if you don't happen to agree with them....
I think you should FUCK OFF
-
That's actually encouraging considering Sam Sparro has quite an eye catching video and that's how I first got to hear the track. It will all depend on how well 4 Minutes holds up this week, prior to the video being released. I noticed Channel 4 have no plans to show it as an *exclusive* so it will just pop up on the music channels this Friday.
-
^Exactly!!
I got tired of reading about Kylie flopping. Two people were arguing back and forth. Take it elsewhere. Thanks.
it's a discussion about the official UK charts so ANYONE who is currently on the UK charts can be discussed in it - COMPRENDE?
-
Wrong, we've always had threads for the UK chart, even when Madonna was absent from it. And since now we have every UK chart discussion in one thread, I think it's only fair to be able to discuss the chart performances of other artists in the same thread.
EXACTLY
No one's complained about people talking about Estelle or Duffy or how Discipline did (or rather DIDN'T).
-
Well I correct you
It's about the Official UK Chart BUT... on MADONNA DISCCUSSION AREAS > THE CHARTS
Kylie vs Britney it's indeed on the POP PRINCESS AREAS
Got the picture?
By your reason the section should only exist when there's chart activity from Madonna and nobody should be posting the entire top 75, airplay charts or the midweeks.
IDIOT

The topic is about the UK Charts - NOT Madonna specifically so it's the CORRECT place for the discussion.

FLOP
X was meant to be THE seller over Christmas 2007 and continue to sell in 2008 - Blackout was meant to be a FLOP from day one. They Kylie loons are about as good at predictions as she is at singing.
*FLUSH*
-
X was reduced to £5 or £6 in the week of the Brits and spent 4 weeks in the top 25 as a result. Prior to that point it had already sold 330k in the UK. It has passed 400k this week.
Blackout has yet to pass 200k, at any price, although this is surprising as her singles have done well.
Blackout didn't have a TV special or Britney doing loads of TV shows to promote the singles off it; it's done those sales on videos and airplay alone.
X is a MEGA FLOP - it hasn't even done 1 million worldwide which means she's now beyond being a LOCAL ACT who's only market is the UK, and that's WANING.
*FLUSH*
-
You change your tune quickly...so it was reduced a week after release now....at 0954 you said it was two months later....

52 53 19 Britney Spears Blackout
59 40 18 Kylie Minogue X
And unlike X-crement, Blackout wasn't in the BARGAIN BINS 2 months after release
There's a difference between being reduced and then hitting the BARGAIN BINS. Albums like Music and Ray Of Light were in the bargain bins in early 2002, both selling for a fiver. X was in the BARGAIN BINS two months after release.

While 'X' has obviously sold more than 'Blackout' (edit: in the UK!), 'Blackout' was only a fiver for one week in January and then went back up. 'X' has been hovering around that price for ages now.
X was reduced a week after it's released - it was SCRAPING the BOTTOM of the barrel by the end of January. It's had massive promo whereas Blackout is selling on good word of mouth, it's the BETTER album by far.
-
But....If her downloads hover around 20k until the physical release she could have a shout at number 1 if she manages 20k on physical. At the moment though Estelle is flying away and will have sold over 70k this week to be number 1. Her sales will fall back so we will have to hope no other record will be released that takes off in the way Estelle has.
I listened to the Estelle track in full over the weekend and it's really not that good, the HOOK however is IRRESISTIBLE and that's what will keep it selling.
