  1. ROFL @ anyone that thinks madonna isn't a commercial artist concerned with commercial success. Celebrity perfumes, celebrity fashion lines, celebrity gyms...she's not doing those things for the "art" of it! Madonna is way too competitive of a person to not care how successful ANY of her projects are, as evidenced by her recent singles that have been so painstakingly made for commercial success that it sucked the soul out of them completely. Her earlier singles were so successful because they were both high quality songs AND had commercial appeal

  2. Yeah,I like the fact that she's getting out there and appearing at awards shows. This type of exposure is important. It creates a "buzz" for whatever she's gonna do next. She needs to continue these high-profile apppearances.

Exactly! That buzz has been missing for quite a while now because of all the "non-traditional promo" , and regardless of how big you are, or how old or young you are, or how great or not you are....out of sight, out of mind with the broader public. Nobody is above that. It's amazing how a couple of minutes at the Grammys has had more people talking about madonna than they have in years. Some of it good, lots of it bad (as usual), but at least people are actually engaged enough to talk about her at all. Buzz is important!! And hopefully she keeps it going to build some momentum again.

  3. No. It's not like saying Mirwais and Madonna are the same type of artist. First of all, unless I'm mistaken, Mirwais doesn't release his own albums, putting himself front and center. Daft Punk do. Yes, they are producers/writers...but they put themselves out there as artists themselves, with work done in their name, with them front and center-as the 'act'. Not the same as Mirwais, Orbit, etc. (unless I'm unaware of them releasing their own 'solo' work). Secondly, I never said Madonna and Daft Punk were the same type of artist. Of course not. What I was saying was that as much as DP are producers...they are also "artists" in their own right, putting themselves out there as the act (not just the producers 'behind the curtain' in the studio.)

Anyways, my original point had nothing to do with comparing Madonna and Daft Punk. It was using Daft Punk as an example of how "old-school" can become "new-school" - fresh and current ... and commercially successful - if done right. That's all.

Uhm, are you for real, child?? Mirwais and William orbit are both "artists" who both have albums putting themselves out front any centre. Sweet Jesus...
