  1. Madonna should do two *excellent* videos for the first two singles.

For the first single, perhaps she should do no video or one in which she does not appear. I like the idea of the Queen of MTV not even doing videos anymore. That would be quite a riposte to MTV for no longer playing them, would avoid the negative comparisons to Lady Gaga that would otherwise be made, and would certainly garner far more media attention than any video that she could make. Plus, only Madonna's die-hard fans buy her singles anymore, so it's not as though she would be losing any sales by not having that promotion.

  2. From The Sunday TImes:

"Lady Gaga and the Death of Sex"

    Camille Paglia

    12 September 2010

    http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/public/magazine/article389697.ece

The references to Madonna include the following excerpts:

"Gaga has borrowed so heavily from Madonna (as in her latest video-Alejandro) that it must be asked, at what point does homage become theft? However, the main point is that the young Madonna was on fire. She was indeed the imperious Marlene Dietrich’s true heir. For Gaga, sex is mainly decor and surface; she’s like a laminated piece of ersatz rococo furniture. Alarmingly, Generation Gaga can’t tell the difference. Is it the death of sex? Perhaps the symbolic status that sex had for a century has gone kaput; that blazing trajectory is over…"

"Peeping dourly through all that tat is Gaga’s limited range of facial expressions. Her videos repeatedly thrust that blank, lugubrious face at the camera and us; it’s creepy and coercive. Marlene and Madonna gave the impression, true or false, of being pansexual. Gaga, for all her writhing and posturing, is asexual. Going off to the gym in broad daylight, as Gaga recently did, dressed in a black bustier, fishnet stockings and stiletto heels isn’t sexy – it’s sexually dysfunctional."

"Compare Gaga’s insipid songs, with their nursery-rhyme nonsense syllables, to the title and hypnotic refrain of the first Madonna song and video to bring her attention on MTV, Burning Up, with its elemental fire imagery and its then-shocking offer of fellatio. In place of Madonna’s valiant life force, what we find in Gaga is a disturbing trend towards mutilation and death…"

  3. here it is

    full leak

    to die for

    Thanks so much!

I actually thought we'd never hear this one since it hadn't leaked for over 20 years.

I wonder, however, if someone could "remaster" this a little bit. It's not terrible sound quality, of course, but it could perhaps be made a bit clearer and more distinct, as was done to Madonna's version of "Each Time You Break My Heart" when it leaked two years ago.

  4. I am stunned. That was straight up one of the most positive tributes to Madonna ever. And a FULL HOUR on national TV on a popular show.

None of us could have written a more positive show.

    Awesome.

So am I! I can't remember the last time I saw such a positive presentation of Madonna in the U.S.

I was almost crying by the end--and like someone else said, I'm glad Madonna got to see it while she is still alive.

  5. Check out dub's remix in the multimedia section, it's excellent!.

    True.

But I still wish that someone could remaster the leaked version in order to minimize the distorted bass and bring the lead vocal forward just a little more (just as someone did for "Revolver").

  6. Hopefully, when the DVD comes out, I won't have to do any additional remastering. Perhaps I'll just be able to do an audio rip of the DVD tracks and post them in the Multimedia forum. Aren't the videos supposed to be digitally restored as well? Where did I read that? LOL. Let's see what happens to the audio track!

Great! I'm really looking forward to you posting those--especially "Vogue."

  7. Rain,

I have another idea for you.

When the DVD of videos comes out, do you think it would be possible to do a remastered version of "Vogue" (album/video version) based upon the audio track from the DVD? After all, the sound on the DVD is supposed to be remastered too.

For those of us who long for a really good remastered version of "Vogue" (album version), that would great!

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

  8. Oooh, yes! Would love to have WAV files of these 1998 remasters. :)

I came across a WAV file of "Like A Prayer [7" Version w/o Fade]" (5:24) from the Japan 3" CD single. Just completed a remaster of this, and I must admit that it sounds great considering it's from a 1989 CD source. I did a side by side comparison to the 2009 Pat Kraus "LP Version" remaster for reference. They are different mixes, but at least I got an idea of how it should sound. This 7" Version still sounds like everything is buried a bit in the mix, but there's only so much that can be done. Then again, most of your old '80s CDs have audio that sounds buried in the background. It's worth noting, too, that Kraus' remaster has been brickwalled (think Ted Jensen's 2001 remasters). My new remaster has been brickwalled only to a small extent, but nothing like Kraus'. It's also a bit bass heavy, but Kraus' is a well ... maybe not as much as mine, however. In any case, it's really amazing the difference that a WAV file makes over an MP3 file when remastering, hence why I only like to work from WAV files. In any case, I will upload these remasters to the Multimedia forum within the next 24 hours. Going to test them out in my car first, however, for more analysis. ;)

Thanks so much, Rain. I'm really looking forward to these.

If you're looking for a better remaster of the 7" version of "Like a Prayer" without fade, however, you should get a WAV file of that track from Mattress. He has the 1998 remaster of it from the Warner Promo discs, and in my opinion, it sounds better than the one from the Japan 3" single. I have both--but only in mp3 form (provided by Mattress about a year ago).
