  1. I can't believe she will be on Ellen for a full week of performances. Has this ever happened before lol?

The closest precedent I can think of for something like this is when John Lennon and Yoko Ono went on Dick Cavett's daytime talk show every day for a full week back in the early 1970s. However, I don't think that he performed on the show. They were mainly talking about political issues, like the Vietnam War, civil rights, and the sexual revolution.

  2. i have to agree with pud. imagine if bitch I'm madonna, unapologetic bitch, s.e.x, holy water were not on the tracklist.. we'd get a very cohesive album and glowing reviews instead of jerks whining about the bitch tracks. would've been better if she just released an EP with the diplo & fun songs.

I agree with you. Or else the more sexual/bitch/Diplo songs could have been on a super deluxe version only, not the standard one (i. e. not the version that would be reviewed).

  3. What annoys me the most is that these publications don't recognize the catchy monster that is Unapologetic Bitch and tend to put it in the same group of songs they dislike, like SEX or Holy Water, simply because of the title.

    I agree with you.

"Unapologetic Bitch" is light years better than the likes of "S.E.X. and Holy Water."

  4. From the Q Magazine review:

"While house and disco liberate Madonna to be anything she wants, hip-hop boxes her into a persona that’s metallic, one-dimensional, and, worse, boring."

I really agree with this point.

However, I do think that the three-star rating is a little low given that the review acknowledges that so many of the other songs are outstanding.

  5. To those of you who have listened, what would you say are her best songs in terms of vocal performance on the rest of the album? I can't say enough good things about her singing on Devil Pray, Ghosttown, and Joan of Arc, and I would like to know what you think are vocal high points that I still have to look forward to? As someone whose favorite thing about Madonna has always been her voice, I am super excited for this album.

For me, "Ghosttown" is the high point of the entire album, including both demos and final album versions, in terms of vocals.

In fact, if it is released as a single, I wouldn't be surprised if Madonna received a nomination for it for Best Pop Vocal at the Grammys next year. She has been nominated in this category before--for "Crazy for You," "Ray of Light," and "Music," I believe--but has never won.

This would be a great opportunity for the Grammys to finally give her the win in this category. And it can only help that Madonna gave such a strong vocal performance this year at the Grammys with "Living for Love"--and even more so that she got such positive press coverage for the isolated vocal from the performance.

If Madonna did win in this category, that would also be an excellent talking point when rebutting those who say that she can't sing.

  6. Were people really creaming over Alone With You? I gave in and listened and was disappointed. It didn't take me there. I don't see the appeal....

I just heard "Alone with You"--and was eager to do so ever since hearing the LQ snippet. As I expected it would be, it is my favorite from among those songs that will not be appearing on the official release, other than the gorgeously wistful "Queen."

Although I really like "Alone with You" as a whole, my favorite part is the bit of the chorus that begins with "There you go--didn't you make a convenient exit" and that continues with "Here you come, trying to make a convenient entrance." The melody of that part is exactly the kind of classic Madonna melody that first made me a fan back in the 80s. Urgent, poignant, and instantly memorable, it really takes me back to when I first heard a new Madonna release during that wonderful decade.

I must say, however, that this song will probably appeal most to fans like me--those who like the classic "pop" Madonna more than the hip-hop or DJ-oriented Madonna.

  7. I know that some may think that this should have been posted in the Grammys thread (or even the Mariah Carey one). However, I thought that it should have its own thread because it is actually less about the Grammy performance than it is about Madonna's impressive vocal abilities--and because any article with a title this delicious deserves its own spotlight.

  8. I wouldn't be surprised if Stuart and Madonna worked together again at some stage. They seemed to have a fantastic working relationship, and he clearly has a great deal of respect for her in every way.

    I wouldn't be surprised either.

In fact, my ideal scenario for a Madonna album would be Madonna first writing the songs with Patrick Leonard and Joe Henry--and then producing them with Stuart Price.

  9. I like the song much more now after watching the concert. Besides, i LOVE those mashups with Applause, this song with a better voice (not the chipnuk crow) and more up to date production would have been a MONSTER HIT!

I agree about the voice. That's why I really like the "pitch shifted" version someone posted on YouTube a few weeks ago:

If someone has an mp3 of this version, I would really appreciate it if you could post it.

  10. I think in Madonnas case sales will matter to Grammy people..

True. Those people will be looking for an excuse not to nominate Madonna, and diminished sales would provide an easy out for them.

Of course, I'm hoping that longterm sales of the album will be good, as the positive word of mouth spreads.
