  1. She was brilliant, as was the song, but the film is DIRE, truly the worst Bond film ever.

Just a case of bad timing - I wish she'd done any of the previous Brosnan ones, or the subsequent Craig ones. Pity she had to be associated with the nail in the coffin of the series before the reboot.

Second worst. A View to a Kill (a guilty pleasure of mine) takes the cake.

I'm not fond of her appearance in the film. It's clear she only did one take and left for the day. It's funny how the critics focused on her appearance alone, not only to drag the movie, but her too. It's her smirking. Way too much.

By the way, what's your favorite song from Rebel Heart?

  2. I've been watching that tour all week long. FABULOUS!!! And Who's That Girl is clearly her 7th greatest song of all time!!!

I just HATE that Who's That Girl was EXCLUDED from the Immaculate Collection. This song does NOT get the RECOGNITION it deserves!

I think WTG is my all time favorite transition period in her career. Love the lite freestyle sound, the lyrics, her Spanish. It's very introspective. Like a prelude for what was to come next.

And I'm sorry, but the music video is LIFE!!!

  3. I initially thought it was gonna be a 2 disc album. But M confirmed in an interview it was gonna be 2 albums out at once. Someone told her she couldn't do that, and that's why we only have 1 disc. If a second leg of the RH tour (like next year in Oz and Asia) were to end the touring portion of her contract, then it kinda makes that she had intended to release two albums to end the contract as a whole.

I think she had planned out to much in the beginning. hoping to get the albums and tours out of the way, so she can work on another film.

Who knows what's next in store for her. But since she's been working non stop it seems like another loooooooooong break is ahead of us :/

  4. Yes, the "filmed in black and white and hand-colorized" was proliferated on VH1 in other ways, as well... I recall the VJ mentioning it on air between videos during a Madonna marathon in the late 90s or early 2000s. (Somewhere between 1999 and 2001, I'd say.) It does make one question the claim ... but, it's possible that it was shot in color, but then the final cut was converted to black-and-white and hand-colored.

I think it was the 2001, as I believe that's the one I was referring to. When did the Madonna encyclopedia first come out? Is it possible vh1 got their info from that?

God I wish I had those old Madonna day tapes I recorded. I had the 2001 vh1 one and the 1998 MTV one. That's one of the downfalls of moving :/

  5. Well, 80% of the vocals on the Erotica album, are from the demo recordings. It's something she's been doing for a very long time. If she's satisfied with the vocal take, then there's no reason for her to do another take.

I don't have many complaints with the sound quality with this album. MDNA was a disaster, and Rebel Heart has vastly improved in that department. Yes, there's some distortion in Messiah, but I've moved past it. There's a lot more clarity in this record than MDNA. I could knit-pick it further, like the co-mixing done by Mike Dean, but I think the point has already been made on that.

  6. Where did the information come from that Rain was shot in black and white and then colourised? Is it one of those false Wikipedia things? It seems doubtful technology was advanced enough to do that convincingly in 1993. If it's true then this music video is even more impressive.

Colourised images always look a bit "off", but this the Rain footage looks very convincing. It just looks like normal colour film with some sort of filter or post production applied.

And surely it would have been far too expensive to colourise hours of b-roll footage that wouldn't feature in the final video.

Yeah I don't even know where the colorization thing originally came from. I kinda wanna say that Kurt Loder mentioned it during one of the Madonna Days MTV did in the past. But Romanek made no mention of it in his director's label DVD. So I just thought it was made up.
