  1. :thumbsup:I personally love all of Steven's work with the Big M from day 1---with LAV being my all-time-favorite. The recent stuff to me is great for who she is today, where she's at with her looks and I'm fine with the air-brushing, everything has always been touched up, I think everyone is just hyper-senstive to it more nowadays!!!

Have a look at the old-hollywood pics, they are touched-up to death, almost unrecognizable. We got away from that a little bit, now it seems we are in that direction again, except with much better technology--it's all cyclical as far as I'm concerned.

  2. People, people, people---ICONIC is not really your personal favorite or the ugliest but easily the most recognizable when shown to most, or the one that's had the most lasting impact or impression. After saying that I go with the TRUE BLUE cover, NOT my favorite (that's reserved for the LAV cover), but again, easily the most instantly recognizable.

  3. I still think it's a decent effort. It definitely satisfied my curiosity of her working with Timbaland and Pharrell. It's not as consistently good (in my book) as Ray of Light or Like A Prayer, but I find myself still listening to "4 Minutes," "Miles Away," "Devil Wouldn't Recognize You" and "Voices" now and then.

I think there were flashes of brilliance in this album, but they might have been a little few and far between.

I still fucking hate the cover and album art. In fact, I find it to be a virtual insult to graphic designers everywhere. And I don't think there will be a big resurgence with the second leg of the tour - unless she did Australia or something really far fetched.

Nes and Nighshade, I agree completely with the both of you. To me, yes there are some good songs, overall it left me with a little empty feeling, like her heart wasn't totally in it. Maybe it's the way her voice was recorded or just how she sounds on it. Yes some of the beats are totally awesome too, but the parts are better than the overall sum.

Oh yeah---I thought COAD was a GREAT album in total, even the overall production was very well conceived.

    Madonna v. Palin: Bitch Fight!

    madonnapalin_fresh.jpg

AX TO GRIND Madonna, Sarah (inset)

Launching into the ballad "You Must Love Me" from Evita, Madonna announced that she was dedicating the song "to the love and and light of my life, Lola," noting that she first performed the song on the day that Lourdes was born and had written it while "she was was still in my womb."

The whole article is nothing but ridiculous M bashing, my biggest gripe is that they think M wrote "You Must Love Me", I don't think Andrew Lloyd Webber would appreciate that!

  5. You just hit the nail on the head. Thats the exact conclusion I drew after seeing it. I loved Confessions no doubt but for most of it you felt like Madonna was showcasing her dancers more then herself. Not so here. It really is all about Madonna, and she is right there dancing her ass off with her dancers instead of walking around them. And there is not one lull in the whole fucking show. During Confessions I can recall like half of the freakin floor disapearing to go to the bathroom or grab some food during certain songs. It seems like no one dared leave and miss a second for this show.

I still cant believe how freakin fast it went.

And I loved when there were those four or 5 people sitting down and Madonna caught them and called them out and said "YOU'RE NOT FUCKING REPUBLICANS ARE YOU!!?"

And I just read that Rodger Friedman article and as usual he has no idea what the fuck he is talking about.

How right you are, especially about the Roger Friedman fool, so sick of him slamming Madonna's singing voice, I guess when they can't find anything else negative to say (because they are in awe of everything else) they take pot-shots at her voice which is so boring to hear again and again after all of these years!

  6.:clap::clap: WOW, WOW, AND A BIG FRIGGIN' WOWWWWW!!!! That's what I have to say after witnessing Madonna last night at MSG! I truly was impressed this go around (as I was with COADF). One thing that immediately struck me and I think it was said here before, was how the "dancers" really took a back-seat to the BIG M. This show was all about her, her and MORE her. Her voice was in top-notch form and her energy level was bloody fantastic!

The sound system was great too, much less muffled than on the COAF tour. Also, the set seemed a lot smaller to me than previous shows, which was kind of nice. It really felt like one of M's shows from years ago, somewhere between Who's That Girl and Blonde Ambition with a little of the Virgin Tour excitement thrown in for good measure. Ok, like anyone cares, here are the highlights to me:

The songs, the songs, THE SONGS, what a GREAT setlist:

Candy Shop - perfect way to open, set the stage so to speak

Beat Goes On - my all-time favorite "new" Madonna classic, has all of the right elements to me, her voice was sooo strong on this one, hello MADONNA the SINGER!

Vogue - How cool was this, great [4 Minutes] remix, awesome dance moves

Into The Groove - This to me was an assault on ALL of the senses, visually stunning, vocally top-notch, cool old-school vibe, but new sound overall.

Heartbeat - The BEST part was the hard-rock ending, friggin awesome, how come no one told be about that, that really took me by surprise, where the heck is the demo of that!!!

Borderline - Loved it, still would have preferred the original arrangement but nice to hear this song and the sing-a-long factor that went with it.

She's Not Me - My favorite part was the look-a-likes, so cool!

Music - great arrangement, kind of tired of this one though by now.

Devil Wouldn't Recognise You - Vocally really nice, love the 3-D screen concept and then the cloak and dagger effect into the Gypsy outfit, visually stunning too!

Spanish Lesson - Not nearly as bad as I expected, actually quite good and a fun departure...loved the whold Spanish Guitar stuff and the dancing.

Miles Away - I would have preferred her doing this song MINUS the guitar, I feel like her vocals always suffer whenever she plays and it's such a lovely sing-a-long song, another "new" Madonna classic to me!

La Isla Bonita - Great arrangement, wish she would re-record it, I liked the whold Gypsy stuff, gets the crowd totally romping!

Like A Prayer - THE BEST MOMENT IN THE SHOW BY FAR, I WANT THIS MASH UP NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Give It To Me - So-so arrangement, would have preferred PUMPED UP original, the melody kind of got lost but GREAT WAY TO END THE SHOW.

    That's all folks....

  7. After downloading all the mp3's from this show, this is the one I keep revisiting over and over. I absolutely adore this version of Borderline and I'm still shocked at how "into it" she sounds. Even on the VT she kind of butchered it by only singing half the verses, but this one she even does the "da da's" at the end.....heavenly!! :dramatic: Since this song has been ignored for so long I kind of got the impression Madonna doesn't really care for it too much anymore. SOOOO glad she has decided to revisit this one!!

The beginning riffs of this version for some reason reminds of the beginning riffs of the song (Take Me) I Want You from the Gotham tapes. I'm sure that is in my head only though. :)

It's funny - to me the beginning riffs sound like the old promo MTV used to use before it would start, they used to show the logo in different cartoon colors really fast!?!? Anyone remember this?

  8. Yeah, this kind of surprises me a little too. Miles Away (to me) certainly is the closest thing we've gotten in a while that resembles something that Madonna and Pat Leonard would have done, the great vocals are there, the awesome melody and smooth yet current production as well as the spanish guitar to boot! I personally love this song and thought at the very least even adult contemporary should have embraced it....oh well.

  9. i agree. for a second i was thinking what is her best into the groove? and the virgin one was everything because it was a hit at the time - and with a tambourine. then ciao was AMAZING. BA was cool, i guess. and a big  to RIT. uck.

i cant wait to see this one.

Ciao Italia, IMO is and ALWAYS will be the BEST performance of Into The Groove--now Take Me To The Bridge!
