Easily one of her worst...dull and lifeless with insipid lyrics
-
AL is Madonna's worst album...lyrically cheesy and whiny and very under produced...
-
Madonna's gotten really lazy with her videos in the last 5-6 years. She's no longer a video pioneer. How can you even begin to equate excellent videos like LAP, EY, Erotica, Frozen with shitty videos like HU, Sorry, Get Together, Love Profusion, Celebration, Miles Away??
-
American Life better than Ray Of Light? You must be joking.
The reason I love Madonna is not because of the 80's at all. It is because of the 80's, 90's and the 00's.
Madonna, Virgin, True Blue, Like A Prayer, Erotica, Bedtime Stories, Ray Of Light, Music, Confessions and Hard Candy are ALL brilliant albums. Does Madonna have fans that prefer the 80's? It's hard to imagine. She's the most consistent pop star of all time. It's about the whole lot for me.
American Life is nowhere near as great as Ray of Light...AL is her worst, that's for sure, one that I don't listen to anymore.

She looks great for her age...but she can't stop the aging process no matter how many surgeries she might have. Just appreciate her for what she gives us.
-
I like it..it's a good song and I think it might have a chance to do well if she would make a damn video for it. It's far better than Celebration, that's for sure.

just got home..bought the 2CD edition..at Target..they had roughly 16 copies (and about 4 single disc copies in the regular bin)...and only a handful of Mariah's left (a couple of empty shelves with the Mariah price sticker)..also had 2 empty spots where Babs album was...Madonna will be in at no. 3 behind Mariah and Babs, no doubt about it.

Well, as mentioned, I've listened to this a few times now and while I do notice some edits, it's really not as bad as I think you and some others are making it out to be. Maybe you're right, it could have been better remastered from the actual originals, but from what I'm hearing, this is pretty damn good still. A lot of the tracks have been digitally mastered when originally put on the albums from LAP and onwards. The older tracks and the ones never remastered, sound much better than the originals. Even the versions used from the TIC sound even better. As for the edits, it's only noticeable to us because we know what the originals or other mixes sounded like. I don't really think they are that bad!
I guess it's just a matter of perception.
Will you just shut up you f'ing loon. The "remastering" job is awful...WTF were they thinking...

I like Joy but she has always had it out for Madonna for whatever reason.Good for La Toys for standing up for her.
I hate the View and never watch it but I like Joy and often agree with her views, but she's dead wrong on this one. She's never been a fan of M and has repeatedly ripped into her (but, of course, was nice to her face when she was on that horrible show).
-
Don't you just love singing into an electric fan and pretending to be Cher? Anyway, this sound's nothing like Cher to me. I don't think Madonna will ever go in that direction. It's so motherfucking cool to be uncool bitch!!!
I'm SO UNRIGHT!!!
Her vocals have obviously been sped up by Oakenfield...I imagine the original is much slower (rumored to be a guitar driven track). Anyway, I like it..much better than Celebration!

Good lord, I heard that new Mika song yesterday.. I have no words. His last album was horrific, but this truly beggars belief
Exactly although I like his "Relax" song but the rest was pure shit and his new songs are even worse. He's the worst ever...and this new idiot Perez is promoting, Sliimy...or whatever he goes by is beyond belief bad.
-
It's actually very catchy and miles ahead of Celebration which is 90's played out eurotrash disco.
-
sounds great so far...
-
it shoulda been included in the US ROL album instead of Meh Girl.
I agree 100%...."Little Star" and "Mer Girl" are the only sore spots on an otherwise brilliant piece of work.

I never realized Debbie Gibson hated Madonna so much. I always thought she said positive things about her. Who knew?
Debbie had a huge ego back then and she really thought she was gonna continue to be a huge star. Her career dropped faster than a meteor. Her music has always been incredibly dull. Her songs were (mostly) bland and she had the personality of a walnut tree.

The story is probably BS and actually she shouldn't!
Her brother is a douche and did one of the worst thing you can do to a family member; sell them out
After that they are NOT family!
Get real!! If your brother or sister did that would you never have anything else to do with them and would you be incredibly self centered as to ask your parents and other siblings to completely cut off this person? There isn't nothing shocking in his book. Everyone already knows M can be incredibly selfish and a bitch at times. Big deal. If it's true she told (or asked) her siblings and her father to cut him off that just proves what a selfish bitch she really is. I'm not defending Chris but that book was a boring read that had not one once of shock nor did anyone learn stuff we already didn't know.

The CD or Vinyl would be in a die-cut "M" matte silver slipcase. The inner shot is from the COADF sessions.

I really like this one!

My all time fav underrated song is "Love Tried To Welcome Me" which should have been a single after TAB. Madonna was at her lyrical best here. Other tracks the are underrated are: Stay, Spanish Eyes, Words, To Have and Not To Hold, Swim, Paradise and Candy Shop.
-
The song has grown on me a lot. It still reminds me of DJ Sammy but it's got a great little party vibe. It might do well in Europe but it'll go nowhere here in the States (except maybe on the dance charts). Revolver will do very well here I predict.

It is, by and large, the worst Madonna album. It's way underproduced with a lot of cringe worthy moments. I still love the title track (which most fans loathe). I'm So Stupid, DAD, Intervention, AL are the best cuts. Hollywood is produced badly...sounds like a lazy Sheryl Crow track. The Thin White Duke mix is sooooo much better (despite not including all the vocals). Xstatic Process is one of her worst tracks while "Easy Ride" has a wonderful chorus but the god-awful self-important lyrics kills it. Same goes with NKM, very good tune but some of the lyrics ruin it. Madonna thinks she's better than everybody and she proves it with dull, arrogant rants about not watching tv, reading magazines, not wanting an "easy ride" despite being megarich, poorly rapping about having a butler, personal trainer..all the while asking "do you think I'm satisfied". "Mother and Father" is another one suffering from cheap production and a subject she's done much better with in the past ("Promise to Try" and "Oh Father" to name a few). I've always hated "Nothing Fails"...the production and schmaltzy lyrics are annoying. The Jason Nevins remix at least makes it partially listenable. "Love Profusion" is decent but nothing new or exciting.
All in all the worst in her career. An easily forgotten mess. God love Warners for dragging this dead horse for ages (how many flop singles did they really have to push?).
-
FROZEN is one of my all time favorite M songs. It's one I never get tired of listening to...dark and haunting...better than 99.9% of M's other ballads...and YES I love it more than VOGUE..so there you have it.
-
Are you talking about the CD or the vinyl? Which one do you own?
It needs to be remastered for CD. The original CD is ok but it could use some remastering skills. I was surprised (and a little shocked) when the first three CD's were remastered and re-released...why did they stop after True Blue? I hope Warner will finally DEMAND that the albums be re-released with unreleased songs. Everyone knows there are probably completed unreleased songs from all the albums (except maybe the first one, which has unreleased different versions of the songs by different producers).

I don't understand how the RS review was 3 1/2 stars with that kind of write-up. They barely criticised it. Surely it was a typo and it should've been 4 1/2, unless they marked it down cause it was "pop music" and not art.
By the way, that NME review is pretty special, I only recall a handful of albums ever getting 10/10, Massive Attack's Blue Lines, Screamadelica by Primal Scream, REM's Automatic For The People and the first Arctic Monkeys album.
I've hardly ever seen it, most ACCLAIMED albums get 8/10 and 9/10 is usually the highest mark, very rare indeed.
ROLLING STONE, especially in the 80's, very rarely gave any pop album more then three stars. You had to be considered "alternative" and rock to warrent more than a few stars. I remember many of the best pop albums from that time period were rated three stars or less. It was RS's way of trying to look "cool".
