  1. Wow - the Hard Candy numbers are PATHETIC. I understand that Madge has much more important things on her mind (i.e. adoption), but instead of crap promotion like vanity Fair cover, Elle cover, and fucking Fuse(!!!) - she could have done something more substantial. In the time that it took her to do those magazine photoshoots and visit Fuse, she could have instead done a MTV special, Ellen & Letterman. Also, the mini-concerts, while cool for fans, didn't really advertise the album to the general public. Madonna needs to hire Mimi's publicist, who booked/organized:

    Oprah

    Ellen

    Today Show

    Mini Concert in NY

Empire State Building in Mariah's colors

    BET concert special

    American Idol

    Idol Gives Back

as well as the magazine covers she did.

I dislike Mimi's music, but the bitch can work for her food!

Getting back to Madonna - on the plus side, I am impressed with the video she made for 4M - and I was very glad that Madge called a bunch of radio stations to help her airplay.

  2. stubhub added hundreds of more tickets today.

That is VERY shady - I cannot imagine that many ICON fans sold their tickets on Stubhub..

Anyway I am not too worried. I remember how with the last tour there were shitloads of tickets on ebay for reasonable prices. I think this time it will be even easier to buy a ticket, since this is her 4th MAJOR tour in 8 years, and also because many of Madonna's usual fans aren't too thrilled about Hard Candy.

I think this tour will do really well overall, but not as well as she's used to

  3. :lmao:

That's exactly what happened I think because that Richmond station that is listed hasn't played a new Madonna song in AGES! I think the last time they played her was some Human Nature mix...I think it may have had a rapper (??) Anyways, being from Richmond that shocked the hell out of me to see they played it. It DOES look like some syndicated show played the song because I highly doubt WCDX would willingly put Madonna on their playlist. Gwen's Hollaback Girl was at the very end of it's run before they spun it...so....

Are you from Richmond, VA, Kurt?

  4. air, who is those pics of that lady? she's hard to look at.

    Hi Tim,

Yep - she's a drag queen ICON from the 70s. Her name is Divine and she starred (as a woman) in some of the landmark cult movies from that era. John Waters directed her in Pink Flamingoes, Female Trouble and Polyester, which are probably the roles that Divine is most known for. The films are campy, hilarious, produced on a shoestring budget, with sometimes terrible acting and are quite out there (think full frontal nudity, incest etc etc).

  5. I don't think it has any hope of even reaching the Top20 anymore :demonic:

I wouldn't count out Bye Bye just yet - as mentioned before, it is growing at a healthy pace at radio. The video just got released, and with all the marriage publicity, radio impressions are going to continue increasing. Its not yet showing signs of slowing down. And, the more it gets played, the more the sales will rebound. I think in 2 weeks, the song will start to rebound on the Billboard charts - although I am hoping it does not hit the top 10....

  6. 90k in 2nd week would be a drop of about 65% - atrocious. At this rate, she will not sell more than 600-700k. She really needs to:

    1. Release GI2M to radio in 2 weeks

    2. Release the video soon after with a MTV special

    3. Call Ellen & Perform it there

    4. Call Letterman & perform it

    5. Go on Today show

    6. Call in some more radio stations.

She's gotta stop this from falling like a rock!

  7. The economic state of the US is also a pretty sorry one - gas prices are high, food costs a lot more, people are getting fucked in the housing market - a lot of people have much less spending money than they used to and must buy the essentials (which for most, unfortunately, does NOT include Hard Candy)

  8. There's a few reasons that this album is gonna open with less than COADF:

#1. She's done very little promo (the concert doesn't count as only fans really are gonna tune in)

#2. Its a different sales climate - record sales keep plummetting (I mean just look at how little an album has to sell to be in the top 20!)

#3. Most of Madonna's fans are dance/pop fans. Most people knew that COADF was Madonna's "dance/pop" album. With Hard Candy, its advertised as Madonna's "R&B" album - which has probably turned casual fans off. Also, even though 4M is a bigger hit than HU, 4M will not get casual Madonna fans (who love her dancepop stuff) to buy the album.

Anyway, given all of the above, her sales numbers are very respectable, even if they're not amazing. I am pleased with them (although of course I would have loved for it to open bigger)
