anyway, i was talking about the rock & roll guitar playing
as i said before she is good for acoustic playing, her voice sounds ok for most of it and sometimes great like the Paradise version of CT
Burning Up RIT was great in my opinion, voice was great, guitar playing pretty much spot on. That song is universally known as a rock song anyway even though the original is more dance oriented. You could say that on Hung Up she sounded pretty bad, but overall the vocals on the promo tour seem to have been decent at best.
I do however think she should lay off the lame humping the amp thing, the feedback from the amp is only useful if you actually know what youre doing.

i would have ditched Pittman already anyway LOL
her CT band was a joke
nowadays her voice goes shit no matter what she does because she is older! thats why she mimed most of Give It 2 Me and i pray to GOD that she will mime "my sugar is raw" part of CS at her tour it was terrible enough at Roseland...
she can:
1) dance HARD and lipsynch
2) dance less and sing decent
3) no dance and sing at her best
4) crumbles to play a guitar and sings ok
did i forget something?
Nothing wrong with Pittman, he plays just fine. But I dont get it when you say her guitar playing interferes with her voice. She sounded just fine on Miles Away, Secret, La Isla Bonita, Burning Up, well, just about any of the songs shes done... more so fine than when she was dancing. So I fail to see the problem.

i dont care about what other artists do at their shows, im a Madonna fan i dont give a shit about Bono or Mick Jagger. The true is that if she plays a guitar part of her concentration goes for it, so she doesnt sing at her best and you can pretty much garantee she will stand there crumbling to not make a mistake
Well Candy Shop on the promo tour sounded like shit, naturally because of the dancing. Also let us not forget ROL VMA 1998... didnt play guitar then either. There are so many things that can fuck up your voice.
Also, if she didnt play guitar on some tracks she would now have to get another guitar player since Stuart is out and Pittman cant play two guitars at once... or maybe she already has got one for the new tour, surely some tracks would need two guitars without her involvement. Either way, to use prerecorded instruments is just lame in my opinion. If I wanted to see prerecorded live music Id watch the ESC...

yeah that one was so great! i do miss this type of band...
Thats the only performance of Holiday I like actually, that opening guitar riff pulls you right in and doesnt let up. Well the BAT one was okay, but that hussle routine was a little... well, I dont know.
-
Frozen was totally out of place
she could do a live performance of Miles Away kinda like Gone at DWT or WIFLFAG at Brixton... she didnt play anything and all her concentration was into her voice full of emotion
anyway i bet she will do a guitar version of Miles Away identical of the promo tour
Well sure the tour versions will be indentical to the promo tour, or at least mostly. Nothing wrong with Miles Away the way it was, I just dont see the problem if she sings alright (ala Secret on DWT) and plays at the same time then its all good. You could argue that Bono and Mick Jagger have no business playing guitar on stage either but still, why not. Jimmy Page (a.k.a. God) played practically every note wrong on Stairway to Heaven during those Arms concerts in the early 80's so Im going to let Madonnas playing slide...
-
i do agree that the raw instruments are much better than the eletronic beeps whem she is not playing them! it worked great at the GS and she didnt play anything. that band was her best EVER! i surely hope she has a brand new band for this tour
it was cute back in 2000 whem she was learning to play a guitar and showed it on that talk show, but now she takes it too serious. no fun
Totally OT, but I still cant decide whos style I like better, Paul Pescos or Monte Pittmans... as for the rest of the band, judging by the promo tour the drummer is pretty good, but where the hell was the bass on the songs Pittman played guitar on? Or does she just not use a bass player anymore now that Stuart split...?
Oh well, either way, I much prefer her to play guitar than just stand there doing absolutely nothing ala Frozen on RIT.
Okay wait, her lead guitar player on WTG, now I liked him but who the hell was he....?

who cares about Pantera fans??
i loved her Paradise version from CT and also she was very good for I Deserve It and Secret at DWT but oooh you dont see the crowd go wild for these ones right... mind you these are not Madonna hits that general public remember and also i was talking about her attempt in rock & roll guitar style which is usually lame
for accoustic she is good, a bit boring but good enough to do it on talk shows or one performance per tour. NOT a whole guitar section
Well then I seriously dount they would go wild over them no matter what she does. She could probably do a dance number out of I Deserve It and the audience would probably be just as confused... also, the DWT version of La Isla Bonita tops the CT version in every way. The CT version was tiresome, and too god damn fast. Now Im sure you "know people" that didnt think so but whatever, real instruments always triumph over eletronic beats in the end, how many techno songs from the 90's do people still listen to...?
-
the crowd likes because she usually performs a HUGE CLASSIC (like ROL, MG, BU, HU) but most of people thinks that Madonna on guitar is a joke
anyone would rather take a dance performance from her than a guitar one. go ask
Did you know that a lot of Pantera fans actually liked that she played the opening riffs to A New Level after Hung Up...? Yeah, they actually gained some newfound respect for her for that one alone. Not to mention you cant seriously say you didnt like the Secret performance on DWT... that was just awesome in so many ways. Also, she doesnt really play that bad, considering she sings at the same time. You cant compare her to someone like Eric Clapton or some other blues/lead guitarist. Rhythm guitarists are often reserved on stage and dont move around a lot. I mean most guitarists in your average day rock band nowaydays cant even play guitar at all, they play a riff or two and its over. I dont see why she would need to go Hendrix for people to think she could play a few songs live...
-
thank God ROL is out of ANOTHER fucking boring guitar section! she really cant get off this terrible idea
Maybe they are boring to you, but the crowd seems to like them.
-
As far as Im concerned that guitar saved her live act... even though some wont admit it, she is getting too old to pull off nonstop dance routines show after show so why not brach out a little.

Virgin tour??
Hmm, yeah certainly better, though WTG to me was her best though it still contained some very off moments. Its quite simply really, the easiest way to deduce if I like a performance is to see the amount of theatrics involved. More theatrics=worse performance. I do make exceptions, EY for BAT being an example. Dont really like the dance TIC version of LAP, thats why I dont like the live performance ot it...
-
I guess the last live performance he liked was:
Hmm, no, that was was pretty bad aswell. Never did like the majority of her live performances on BAT or GS.
-
....and he hates the Girlie Show too.....SHOCKED!!
Yeah I know, pretty amazing isnt it...
-
Kind of my point really...
-
Bollywood...? Okay, if true, truly lame...
-
uhn.. no.
Um yes.
And no more girl from ipanema... too many covers of that song already.
-
Who is Kristine W and what type music does she do?
-
Well I thought it was great. Too much coreography and dancing makes the show difficult to follow. So not "yogaing" around the place but rather standing still was good.
-
Especially 4 the Svpertsar :
Go here u dumb muppet
Okay well, I dont know if that was meant as a joke or not, but that version is better than the original. At least if you take into consideration how it could be done live.
-
Wow, I guess I'm part of the minority group that actaully loved Confessions AND how it was filmed. Oh and TCT was obviously not "taken back to the studio". Uh, Ray of Light anyone?
Trust me, its too clean to have not been remastered. WAY too clean.
-
And Borderline as a song rocks, but live it was a let down on the Virgin Tour. If she treats the song with some respect and does a good performance then great but if it is just going to be like Material Girl and Burning Up and sung for the sake of it, then she should not bother!
Put some heart in to it love!
If youre talking RIT... Burning Up was an amazing performance (according to me and many others) and she certainly put her heart in it.
-
Pleaso no more 35mm film though... there are HD/2k/4k cameras now that can shoot 24p/variable if she really wants that (for effects in post) but the dynamics of film in some way ruin the live feeling... granted the BAT footage does look nice but its completely pointless to shoot on film with its difficult shallow DOF over several different gigs instead of just using video cameras and capture the whole thing live.
There are countless spots on the CT dvd where you can tell its clearly filmed on a different night.

i think Express Yourself was good enough at RIT, she didnt dance much but kept her vocals going for the song
many of these songs if she wants to sing properly she has to dance less, otherwise she should do a playback. at this time its a matter of choice... she cant dance and sing at the same time and sound as decent as she used to in the past
I know, and me personally I prefer the actual song/music to come first. Whatever she does after that is up to her but good thing she at least picked up one musical instrument... beats doing yoga moves on stage and calling it dancing.
-
LOL was gonna add that "it's just you," but I see two beat me to it. Well, maybe just you and svperstar.
The track has remained one of her most-played recurrents in the USA (in a recent week, actually had more play than "Into the Groove"). It's fantastic pop, and she gives a great delivery- for her limited range, she just belts it, and it just has a great summery feel to it.
Okay, fair enough... but will it work now? Will her voice today 20 years later do the song the justice you and so many here hope for? I can say that Express Yourself is one of my alltime favorite tracks yet I think the RIT version stinks. When you get your hopes up, things can actually dissapoint.

Well, for a person like me, the more jumping she does on stage herself, the more Ill stand there looking at what she is doing. I mean naturally if its choreography you should watch it. Thats basically my point of view, also Im a cameraman and I hate it when people dance on stage... more difficult to frame correctly.
Should be said about Hung Up that I hated that song on the album and on CT, but that rock version, the middle "I know tha youre still hesitating..." bit actually sounds good with some added guitars. So Im with the Pantera fans on this one, rock on. Please just dont hump the speaker again though...
