  1. :lmao: American Life is finally FORGOTTEN.

That 20 minutes or so on CD 2, from Tracks 10 to 14 will be a bit of a DRAG. But Live To Tell will sparkle even brighter after those DUDS, even if it is unnecessarily hidden at the end of the second disc.

And :lmao: at how she's AGAIN trying to cement DAD and Hollywood's legacy. It's not going to happen.

But CD1, bar the inclusion of Sorry, is arguably the STRONGEST greatest hits single disc in decades.

Agreed on Hollywood (although I love it) but Die Another Day was her last big airplay single stateside (not counting 4 Minutes) so it does deserve a spot on here. Plus I really think it's a fantastic song, personally.

What's wrong with Sorry though? That song was another worldwide smash for her (not counting the USA of course).

  2. Although I think it was a stupid decision to put any single from Hard Poon aside from 4 Minutes, I'm wondering why she chose Miles Away over Give It 2 Me. I mean Miles Away was a flop EVERYWHERE. At least Give It 2 Me had a video. Oh well, I think Give It 2 Me in its original incarnation is kinda corny anyway so...

  3. Anyone who thinks that 4 Minutes would have been even close to the hit it was without Justin Timberlake is out of their damn minds. Sorry Etips. Madonna alone is kind of a recipe for flops right now. But Madonna WITH someone else is different. That's what seperates her from acts like Ciara - she's a well known name who radio wouldn't give a shit about UNLESS her name was attached to a radio darling. Reba Mcintire? Duran Duran? Has beens. Madonna may not be played on the radio anymore but she's definitely not a has been. She's more famous than ever, still an a-list artist with a lot of hype still roaring behind her. Of course a collaboration with Justin's skinny ass was going to make some noise. Sure hte song being an instant hit helped, but to compare the situation to Ciara is ludicrous (who btw, wouldn't have been played very much either had it not been for Justin's presence on the track. That girl was flopping ALL OVER THE PLACE before that song came out. She finally managed to get a top 20 hit because of Justina. FACT.)

  4. Well I just felt that you responding and arguing with my post seemed that you thought what I said was the bigger issue here. I know what he said was not the worst ever, but to me it seems he constantly gets away with the stupid behavior even though I already saw a lot of people complaining, not just Muse or Jamesshot, so it just doesn't add up. I don't see why moderators would be content with the majority of regulars putting someone on ignore who doesn't even hide the fact that he's only here to piss people off.

Well Danny to be fair, people complain about a LOT of people here. Hell, people complain about Neutrocks. A lot. Plenty of people have him on ignore as well. What can we do? He's not breaking the rules. Believe me there are a lot of people on here who I just would rather see GONE but sometimes we just can't do much. I will say that the next time one of the moderators is called in to have to babysit after GimmeSomeMo then it might be the last time we have to do it, if you know what I mean. GSM is well aware of this so I would hope he knows not to push his luck.

  5. I am honest about that, even though I also love COADF. I'm just speaking out when people pretend it's the epitome of originality and brilliance and make up excuses for HC. Yes, I do prefer HC because I JUST DO, but to me there's more effort shown in the songwriting and I don't see what's snobbery in saying there was more thought in putting together the lyrics of "Devil..." or "She's Not Me" over "Sorry" or "Let It Will Be". It's still far from all the assumptions about Madonna creating music she does not like, I'd call THAT snobbery.

And sorry, but shouldn't you do something with people who actually insult others, instead trying to make it seem I'm just the same? The responses since then show I'm not.

Well I really don't see what makes the lyrics of She's Not me or Devil better than all of Confessions because they're all really just pop songs when all is said and done, but hey suit yourself. I think a better case could be made for a song like Voices over songs on Confessions, but that's really it.

I've already banned GimmeSomeMo multiple times for his behavior. What he said to you earlier in the thread was full of his typical ranty attitude, but isn't really actionable. Most people on here don't like him and give him hell when he pisses them off. Muse and Jamesshot are right there to jump on him. What more do you want? When he pulls a bad stunt, I'd be happy to take action. But that didn't happen here.

  6. That's very rich, coming after you saying Madonna only added a couple of lines here and there, as if you were there in the studio.

Anyway, my point was that COADF has very basic song structures, it's verse-chorus-verse-chorus-chorus-chorus-chorus and song over. Basically LIWB is "just let it be, oh let it be, won't you let it be" repeated over and over, I don't see how that songwriting holds a candle to something like "Give It 2 Me" and "She's Not Me" that contain a lot of different song sections. "Sorry", "How High" or "Forbidden Love" don't even have a bridge, I just think that's OBJECTIVELY a worse songwriting. Not to mention "Isaac" that's the laziest song ever in terms of songwriting. On HC "Miles Away" is the only thing that can come close to the repetitiveness of COADF.

Wait a minute, so you're reducing her songs to structural tidbits now? That's like saying that a book with illustrations is by definition a better quality book than one without them.

I don't see how not having a bridge is bad if we get a nice instrumental break instead. I don't see how having a verse/chorus structure is bad if hte melody is amazing. Why don't you just be honest and say that you prefer Hard Candy to Confessions because you just DO? It just sounds like you're trying to make everyone who poops on Hard Candy and glorifies Confessions look like they have a shitty grasp on what "GOOD SONGWRITING" is. That's the exact kind of snobbery that you spend 90% of your time on here fighting against.

I am very aware of people's dumb excuses for the relative thud Hard Candy was recieved with when it came out last year, and I am just as ready as you are to squash them, but your excuses for a group of people PREFERRING an album over Hard Candy are pompous as fuck. Just saying.

  7. I feel like there's a big habit on here of poo pooing on her past work in order to prove that Madonna has always been "a product" or "in it for the money at all times"

It's not that black and white people. Sometimes she's in money making mode, other times she's in "I want to make something incredibly special" mode. Notice how she discussed her music in the interviews leading up to and during Ray Of Light's release compared to how she discussed Hard Candy in 2008. She's good at what she does, and sometimes she makes an album with other goals in mind, but other times she'll sit down and really push herself creatively because that's what she wants. We just haven't seen that in a long time. Although to Confessions credit she did do a very expansive interview in the Observer with Stuart about making the album and she talked about it being one of the most "organic" album making experiences since the 80s.

  8. Also, "Die Another Day" was the soundtrack of the 20th Bond movie and it was following the vein of the Music hits, so very rich to call that "more driven by creativity".

I know this is probably irrelevant, but regardless of why the song was concieved or what ideas it spurned from, it's by far one of her most lyrically and musically creative hits ever. No reason to dismiss it, in my opinion.

  9. I don't get why everyone on this forum is so invested in it either. A lot of people here got flack for whining about Hard Candy's direction, deservedly in most cases, but I have always secretly thought that a lot of people who fingered their assholes over the direction of Hard Candy were only doing so because they wanted Madonna to get played on the radio.

  10. I think people have a problem with the Revolver lyrics because it sounds like backtracking. She used to write about her sexuality in such a mature way. Now she's signing about sex the way Britney would. It's not rocket science why people have a hard time finding a common thread between "Poor is the man who's pleasures depend on the permission of another" and "My sex is a killa, do you wanna die happy? I let it bang bang"

  11. You're entitled not to like Beautiful Stranger but how can you say its half assed? Sure it steals from another song (I personally don't mind when she does that) but it was the perfect song for her at the time and I thought the instrumental was incredibly sexy and totally went with the film without being corny. The lyrics were cute too.

I enjoy Revolver because it is catchy, not because it's anything I get wowed about. It's very likely to be laughed at by people for being sung by a 51 year old woman. At least Beautiful Stranger was sexy - and she didn't even have to try.

  12. It's a really uneventful opener, I agree. Possibly her lamest since the 80's. I do like the performance though, which is good mainly because of how incredible she looks and how much fun she has with it. There's a reason I hated it when she did it at Roseland but liked it during Dry & Sour. It's only because of her. At Roseland it was all new and she hadn't worked the kinks out of it - now it comes really easy to her and it's great to watch.

  13. Not that I disagree, but I do feel videos have far less of an impact these days. It's a shame because I thought our culture has become more visual, so I'd think videos would be more popular and much more sophisticated.

I think much of it's due to the lack of outlets. Since MTV and VH1 pretty much ditched videos on their main channels, people now rely on the internet or paid music stations to see these videos. The paid stations do limit video viewership, but the internet certainly helps expose videos. But again, I just don't see the same enthusiasm like back in the 80's and early 90's.

The enthusiasm is still there. It has just changed. Videos are now a part of the web 2.0 movement thats been happening and growing for years. Artists who don't embrace this are left in the dust, which is why videos are more important than ever in a way. If you don't have a good looking video on youtube, consider yourself a minute away from irrelevancy. We live in an age where a band like the Kings of Leon can go from virtual indie nothings last August to everyone's favorite band this August, all thanks you YouTube.

With all of this in mind, Madonna's apparent refusal to make a good video for the singles she puts out is becoming more and more baffling by the day.
