  1. What's your point? I think I gave you grief about liking it because you were giving everyone else grief about liking MDNA and tried so hard to keep everyone from enjoying themselves during that era haha. Stop trynna make AL happen!

I do like about half that album tho for what it's worth

That's a lie. Our American Life debates happened prior to the recording of MDNA. And during the initial release hysteria I never disparaged the album to ruin the enjoyment for other members. In fact I was a defender of the least popular song on the album B-Day Song. Because I genuinely like the 60's tone of the music and the carefree intend behind the song. I prefer left-field Madonna musically above all else. Hence: Erotica and American Life being my favorite Madonna albums so far.
  2. I love the MDNA album, love the tour, love the whole year… Madonna at another peak. Flawed album sure but I personally identify with so much of it… it's strong, it's cool, it's defiant.

I can't wait to see what she does next, I honestly have no idea where it's gonna go, that's the interesting part

Coming from the man who has given me grieve for loving American Life.
  3. How is Madonna currently the "exclusive property of gay men and anyone else with taste" and no a longer an important reference for young women? Admittedly I am a gay man so I don't have a woman's perspective, but Madonna is a still a huge icon for women and brought down major barriers for women to be comfortable expressing their sexuality and still be accepted by society. If anything, Erotica and the Sex book increased this because, as she talked a lot about at the time, she was tackling pornography and sexual themes as a woman fully in control of her work and art. She suffered from such a strong sexist backlash because her doing this deeply threatened the status quo. While of course she's not as big among young women today as stars like Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus, because they are still teenagers and young adults themselves, I know that a lot of women look to Madonna for inspiration and encouragement to express themselves freely when it comes to love and sex and feel empowered to challenge society's conventions.

I could have worded it better. My point was commercially and artistically from then on. She would be ours (gay men and anyone with taste). Watching Truth or Dare reminded me that Madonna was still be marketed to kids. While the Sex/Erotica/Body of Evidence/Girlie Show were all adults only product. And the music she made afterwards were all geared toward adults. She certainly was not chasing teenagers then.
  4. Erotica is the hippest Madonna album of them all. Before longing to start a family. Before caring again about commercial success. Madonna enjoyed the artistic journey and the price she paid for going too far destroying forever her image as a "role model". Before Erotica she was a reference for young women to explore their edgier/more sexual side. After Erotica, Madonna was the exclusive property of gay men and anyone else with taste.

I love minimalist production. When done well it is a timeless attribute of the approach. I hope Madonna returns to the intimacy of two or less producers. Aiming for a cohesive sound and theme. I love Erotica as a personal manifesto.

  5. In MY OPPINION:

    9. I think her worst collaboration was Mirwais, cause I don't really love the Music album or AL album.

    10. I don't think Erotica is among her best. Yes, she has really great songs there, but I believe its her album with the most filler and it feels too long.

I love you: why would you say such horrible things?
  6. American Life is easily her weakest, most overrated album. No album she has done before or after sounds as dated. There are still good songs there (Easy Ride, Hollywood) but the title track/lead single is the lowest point of her career. I suppose she thought that rap crap would be funny/ironic but looking back at it was just awkward and cringe-worthy.

    You're dead to me.
