  1. I don't know if it really has a theme. If anything the theme seems to be a celebration of Madonna herself. She's saying: it's me, I'm back, I make great music, dance with me, have fun with me, give me your love! Which is not a bad theme after some time away. It's a shame the song hasn't done better. Unlike some fans I *really* like it. It's not Vogue or Express Yourself, it will never be a true Madonna classic, but it's a great little song and very catchy.

  2. :lmao: Seriously? She's actually finally coming and you're upset about THAT.

I can't wait to see what venues she's doing in Australia. Unlikely but I hope there is at least one arena show in one of the smaller cities. No doubt she'll do Ethiad in Melbourne. Everyone complains about seeing acts there but the atmosphere is SO much better than Rod Laver. You just got to make sure you're close to the front.

You know, I won't believe she's coming until I get the tickets in my hand. Even then... I don't think I'll believe it until I see her on stage here with my own two eyes. This wouldn't be the first time she said she was coming and then didn't come - it would be the fifth time! And even with this announcement, we're tacked onto the very end of the tour after literally eveyone else has seen it. Australia is the only place on the 2012 Word Tour where the dates aren't even scheduled for 2012 - they're for 2013! - so it would not surprise me at all if they didn't happen for some reason and some excuse is made AGAIN.

Sorry for being negative, I don't wanna feel this way, but we've been here too many times before.

  3. To be honest, I'm not going to stop buying her music if she doesn't come to Australia. And I'm certainly not going to call up radio stations and request that they don't play her songs, LOL. I like her because I like HER - it's not based on how often she visits Australia. On the other hand, it does really piss me off that she won't tour here and has reneged on promises to come. But if I'm honest that will not stop me buying her music. It may well stop others though, and I do think this will hurt her career here, especially when it comes to more casual fans.

  4. With the combination of the Stubhub deal and leaving Australia out is this going to be the begining of another backlash?? I have to say initially I was really just disappointed that Madonna wasn't coming to Australia again but now reading how fans are missing out on seeing her since the tickets are going at ridiculous high prices from scalpers I feel worse for you guys. If Madonna came down here finally and were faced with that it would be worse I think than Madonna not coming at all. How can Madonna expect someone to pay as much as 10,000 to see her perform I've never been so disgusted to be a Madonna fan after reading that.

And from the sounds of it tickets sales aren't as strong as in the past. What a shame!

There is definitely a backlash - over these issues, and more. Such as Madonna's involvement in the hypocritical, homophobic cult of kabbalah. How much it will affect her career remains to be seen. But there is a backlash, no doubt.

  5. But agreeing with her doesn't necessarily indicate a lack of objectivity, does it?

No, but when you always agree with her, it indicates a lack of objectivity. And you seem to always agree with her, from what I've seen of your posts. Granted, I haven't seen every single one of your posts, but in the ones I've read you're always defending her. Even more pertinently, you defend (in my opinion) the indefensible - like in this thread and the ticket-scalping posts.

Anyway, I'd love to keep chatting, but I'm off to bed now as I have an early start in the morning - nighty 'nite!;)

  6. If you haven't been following this thread, then you really don't need to comment on it, do you? All you've added to it is a personal statement about me, which seems pretty pointless considering you don't know what the various arguments raised in the thread are.

What are you on about now? I never said I haven't been following this thread. I said I haven't been following YOUR threads. This isn't your thread. Learn to read or don't bother trying to argue with me, please.

  7. I'm not following your threads and I'm not agreeing with anyone to make a point about you. You might wanna take those tickets off yourself! It's just that I've noticed in a number of threads that you always defend Madonna, no matter what. You are a true fan, as in "fanatic". I'm all for admiring Madonna, but I prefer to keep some objectivity about myself and not disengage my brain whenever I hear the word "Madonna".

  8. Look I've tried to be as polite to you as possible but I really feel like telling you to fuck off. You really come across as being a total tool Carta.

I have to agree with this. Sorry Carta, I'm sure you're nice enough in your own way, but you're really quite annoying in this thread - and you have quite a good dose of victim mentality about you, to boot.

BTW, is your name Rennie by any chance?

  9. Oh, lighten up Carta - things aren't that bad! I'm sorry you feel under attack; please be assured I don't have any ill will towards you. But my point (which I agree I could have made more tactfully) is that Madonna doesn't have to play at cricket grounds; she can use other stadiums. In fact, most stadium concerts these days are at places like Telstra Dome and Olympic Park, not cricket grounds. Telstra Dome and Olympic Park didn't even exist in 1993! That's all my point is - yes, there may have been controversy over damaged cricket pitches in 1993, but that's not relevant in 2008. 'Cricket pitches' have nothing to do with her excluding us from tours.

  10. That's fine, but I'm just saying that it caused problems last time she toured here. If you're not familiar with the game of cricket (I have no idea where you're from), you won't necessarily understand the problem (it's only cricket that's played at the large venues in the summer). Every time there is a big stadium concert in Australia (which is reasonably rare - most concerts are held in smaller arena-type venues in Australia rather than large open air venues), there are complaints about the impact it has on the cricket pitch.

Carta, stop being such an apologist. How come U2's last stadium tour of Australia had no such problems then? As Mad_On_Her said, there are more places than just cricket stadiums to play at. For instance, most stadium shows in Sydney aren't held at the Sydney Cricket Ground - they're held at the former Olympic Stadium, which is NOT a cricket pitch. There's also the Sydney Football Stadium next to the SCG, which is NOT a cricket pitch. And most stadium concerts in Melbourne are actually held at Telstra Dome, which is a football stadium, NOT a cricket pitch. You're just coming up with excuses for Madonna because you're one of those OTT manic fans who can't help but defend her no matter what she does.

  11. Madonna makes money from Ticketmaster sales ie she makes money on all tickets sold - whether to the scalping website StubHub or the fans. This Stubhub deal is ENTIRELY about making more money by whatever means.

She has signed a deal with Stubhub so she'll earn extra money from scalping her fans. You can argue that scalping happens anyway which is true but nonetheless she is endorsing it and making it easier.

She SHOULD be looking at ways to prevent scalping instead of benefiting from it.

Is anyone actually surprised though? The woman is quite rightly regarded as totally greedy.

I'm neither surprised nor angry. Few people agreed with me at the time but during the American Life era Madonna signed a huge deal to promote the Gap clothes who were being targetted by human rights organisations for their use of child slave labour to make their clothes in Asian sweatshops. This was at the time she was saying how awful materialism was on her American Life album while at the same time earning money off the back of child abuse.

That was the time I stopped loving Madonna - I still like her music but I dislike greed and I stopped respecting her as a person thanks to her greed and hypocrisy. I don't wish to be lectured on Malawi or Kabbollocks or making the world a better place by a woman who endorses theft from her employers (ie us her fans)

What's more this is an APPALLING PR move. Going to see Madonna is not a huge novelty anymore as she tours so often. Now that she is aging she will find it more difficult to sell records and gain new fans. Pissing off her fanbase like this will probably not affect sales for this tour but seeing as she will be touring every couple of years she will soon be playing smaller venues to fewer people.

I think she's accepted that her days as an artist relevant to the music scene are ending and she wants to make as much money as possible.

I totally agree with everything you've said here. M has become SUCH a hypocrite. I still like her music, but I've lost a lot of respect and affection for her, and now I only buy something when I *really* like it; my days as a collector are over. For instance, I didn't bother buying '4 Minutes'. I'm sure she won't lose any sleep over this, but I do think her greed and hypocrisy will come back to bite her on the arse.

  12. This is terrible news for the concert industry. I don't mind Madonna making money, but legitimising scalpers will only push up the price of concert tickets generally. Just wait and see - now that the door has been opened, the day will come when most tickets will be sold through scalpers like Stubhub instead of original ticket brokers. This means we'll ALL pay more, and lots of real fans will be priced out of the market.

Why does Madonna need to do this? Doesn't she make enough money already? Money is great, but there comes a point when morals and the greater good should also be considered. Some fans are such blind devotees that if Madonna started to invest in child pornography, or illegal trading in body parts, you'd support that too: 'Well it's gonna happen anyway, she might as well make some money out if it.'; 'It's not her fault that these things exist; she's just being a smart businesswoman'.

Between this scalping issue and Madonna's treatment of Australian fans, I am seriously starting to doubt whether I can continue to be a fan...

  13. I think Live Nation just skipped you guys this time so they could have an insurance bank for her 2011 tour, in case all the stadiums this time result in sluggish sales the next. As for money, they'd probably do the same thing they did w/ U2, a handful of stadiums doing $5-6m a night. I found their boxscores on a fansite.

    Sydney, Australia : November 10-11, 13, 2006 : Telstra Stadium : GROSS $18,538,724 : ATTENDANCE 206,568 : SHOWS 3 : SELLOUTS 3

    Melbourne, Australia : November 18-19, 2006 : Telstra Dome : GROSS $11,188,720 : ATTENDANCE 127,275 : SHOWS 2 : SELLOUTS 2

    Adelaide, Australia : November 16, 2006 : AAMI Stadium : GROSS $5,058,962 : ATTENDANCE 60,000 : SHOWS 1 : SELLOUTS 1

    Brisbane, Australia : November 7, 2006 : QSAC Stadium : GROSS $4,254,140 : ATTENDANCE 50,094 : SHOWS 1 : SELLOUTS 1

    Auckland, New Zealand : November 24-25, 2006 : Ericsson Stadium : GROSS $6,216,819 : ATTENDANCE 84,475 : SHOWS 2 : SELLOUTS 2

Thanks for those figures - very interesting! Those figures show that Madonna 'not being able to afford' to bring her tour here is complete rubbish! I don't buy that Madonna's failure to tour Australia is anything to do with money at all. There is A LOT of money to be made from touring Australia; that is clear from the constant tours by high-profile acts who perform here. Acts who've toured Australia over the last 18 months include:

Christina Aguilera, Pink!, Black Eyed Peas, Fergie, The Police, U2, Gwen Stefani, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, Elton John (twice), Michael Buble, Celine Dion, Beyonce, Duran Duran, Cyndi Lauper, kd lang, Justin Timberlake, Backstreet Boys, Westlife, Delta Goodrem, Matchbox Twenty, 50 Cent, Daft Punk, Air, Pet Shop Boys, James Blunt, Foo Fighters, Maroon 5, Panic At The Disco, Crowded House, The Killers, Snow Patrol (twice), Kaiser Chiefs (twice), Mika, Lionel Richie, Arctic Monkeys, Rod Stewart, Tori Amos, Bjork, PJ Harvey, Ben Lee, John Mayer, Hillary Duff, Josh Groban, Guns 'N' Roses, Iron Maiden, Rufus Wainwright, Martha Wainwright, Santana, KT Tunstall, Ozzy Osbourne, Sinead O'Connor, Keith Urban, Bob Dylan, Nine Inch Nails, Ben Harper, Silverchair, My Chemical Romance, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Marilyn Manson, Linkin Park, Simple Minds, Simple Plan, Eric Clapton, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Kelly Clarkson, Rogue Traders, Roger Waters, Muse, Bon Jovi, Don McLean, Lou Reed, KISS, Jack Johnson, Joe Cocker, Darren Hayes, Good Charlotte, Brian Wilson, Tool, Lily Allen, Hot Chip, Roisin Murphy, Robyn, Beck, Groove Armada, Pixies, Jarvis Cocker, New York Dolls, Diana Ross, Bonnie Raitt, Boyz II Men, Wolfmother, Divinyls, Calvin Harris, LL Cool J, UB40, Joe Jackson, One Republic and Kanye West.

This is just SOME of the acts who've performed here over the last 18 months. There are probably some I've left out, and if we go back earlier, there are many, many, many more acts who could be added to that list. I can't believe that all these artists can tour Australia in the last 18 months, yet Madonna hasn't been here for 15 YEARS and STILL can't make it!!!

  14. I get it about confessions, but did she actually say she was touring Austrailia this time?

She did quite a few Australian interviews for Hard Candy and in all of them she either hinted or said straight-out that she would come to Australia with her next tour. She even told the Herald-Sun, "It's the least I could do".
