  1. I don't understand the negativity. Look what happened to She-Wolf. At first, it looked like it was going to flop, but after several interviews, promotion and the video, it is becoming a hit. I know that the market has changed and the singles need exposure to be sold. If there is no video, no interviews and the radio is not interested, it will go nowhere. But I think that there will be some promotion in September and the single will pick up. Maybe it won't be top 10, but at least top 40 is possible.

  2. Excuse me boy but... Lisbon is not SPAIN is the capital of Portugal, one of the world oldest country with more than 800 years of history and Lisbon is 600 kms from Madrid or Sevilla... the nearest cities where Madonna was... now with the euro money we are closer from Spain but still the language is different.

Relax, boy! I know where Lisbon is, I'm spanish, so I'll try to explain myself better. Like it or not, Lisbon attracted many spanish fans and can be considered part of the same market, inside the Iberian Peninsula. For many people living in Castilla Leon, Galicia or Extremadura it was easier to go to Lisbon instead of Valencia or Sevilla, and I know several friends and colleagues who went to Lisbon because it was in the weekend. But I agree with you, the third spanish show should have been in Bilbao or Vigo, or even a second show in Portugal, it makes more sense. They have saturated the east of the peninsula. Without Zaragoza, Madrid and Barcelona would have been sold out or almost sold out and Vigo would have had a pretty good attendance.

  3. The decision to make a concert in Zaragoza was simply stupid. 6 concerts (Lisbon, Sevilla, Valencia, Madrid, Barcelona and Zaragoza) in less than a year???? She has saturated the market. If the tickets weren't that expensive, she wouldn't have problems to sell out all of them, I know many friends that aren't going because paying 100 € to seat at the back of the stadium is too much.

But it is not only a Madonna problem. U2 started their tour in Barcelona, and although they sold out the first show, the second one wasn't. And the same goes with Bruce Springsteen, Depeche Mode, Beyonce or Kylie Minogue. The crisis is affecting all the tours, even the biggest spanish groups are being forced to reduce their prices.

However, Barcelona will be almost sold out, and I think Madrid will be at 75%-80% of capacity. Not bad!

  4. Maybe because that's something subjective? Also, I wasn't aware of people should be listing their favs and least favs when making a statement like that. Anyway, to me her worst albums are Like A Virgin & Erotica.

Exactly! Personally I think that Madonna, Like a Virgin and True Blue are her worst albums. Each of them have 4-6 stellar songs (mostly the singles), but the rest are bland and quite generic. After Like a prayer, she became an album artist instead of a single artist and that is why I prefer her later work. It's obvious that Hard Candy does not contain songs as good as "Live to tell" or "Like a Virgin", but I do not find myself skipping tracks as often as when I am listening these three albums.

  5. Hard Candy is not a bad album. Not her worst, but quite enjoyable. The same goes with the tour, by no means it is a bad tour (anyone would kill to have this kind of show) but compared to previous tours, it is not her best.

I think people are not over her, they are simply deceived. If the following album is good, all will forgive her. As simple as that.

  6.

Well, if the sound is the problem then why would Coldplay sell on par with Madonna? They don't sound like Timbaland's production. I still say it is a let down to play for almost 100,000 people in Spain and barely manage to go GOLD. The market must be down pretty bad there.

There are two different topics here: sales and radio support. Hard Candy and all the singles sold OK compared to the 2008 best selling albums in Spain, she has a huge fanbase here. It's true that the sales climate is depressing because albums can enter the Top 50 selling less than 200-300 copies, so Gold is quite an accomplishment. On the other hand, the radio support was minimal because the biggest stations (los 40 principales) usually ignore these R&B/hip-hop hits. There are quite a few exceptions, but as I said earlier, they are not as massive as in the rest of the world.

And I don't see what's the problem with Madonna doing so many shows here. She is probably our biggest international act, Spain is a big market and has ignored us in many tours. She owed it to us.

  7. Acts like Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Usher, Kayne West... are not very successful in Spain. That sound is not very radio friendly in Spain, so that's why the HC singles were ignored.

45.000 copies is not an embarrasment... the biggest-selling albums last year in Spain sold 80.000 - 100.000 copies and not many international artist sold more than Madonna (Coldplay, Amy Winehouse...).

  8. The fact is Madonna wanted to tour OZ and she had also given discount rate to the promoter but it was the promoter who simply can't afford to take the risk.

I wonder why some fans keep barking at the wrong tree?

That is exactly what happened in Spain with previous tours. Thre were rumours about her coming, but the promoters didn't want to take the risk. But now, she is coming 4 times with this tour!! We need (a little more) patience, I think LiveNation and Madonna are now very interested in touring Australia.

  9. She was everywhere, at least in Spain. Promo is not going to TV shows only. She was in the cover of every magazine and Movistar made an enormous campaign during the first weeks after releasing COADF. I remember that all the bus stops had an enormous add with the album cover in Madrid. It was impossible not to know that she had an album out there. And Los40, the biggest radio in Spain, fully supported her and Hung up was #1 there for 6 weeks, and they only play the songs that record labels pay for. For this album, Warner Spain did a very good job.

  10. in Spain Confessions was like 2 platinums or 3, HC only gold.In the Us it sold one million less than COADF.I don´t know anything about the other markets you mention

Yes, you're right, but we must not forget that in Spain the CD sales are now disastrous, big acts that three years ago sold 5-6 platinums are now struggling to get 1-2 platinums and they have successful albums and singles. For example, Coldplay's album has been a big success and it's also gold in Spain.

And we must not forget that Give it 2 me and Miles Away were not sent to radio. Los40 never played them. I think that it's been a miracle that the album has lasted in the top 100 for so long.

  11. I don't think Madrid's cancellation is due to Valencia tickets selling 'slow'. On the contrary, I think they are selling pretty fast!! The Police and The Rolling Stones had concerts in Valencia and Alicante and weren't sold out; Madonna is doing much better!

The reason is easier: spanish promoters can't manage this kind of concerts. However, I think that there's gonna be another concert in Spain. Where? I don't know, but it's logical to have another show in Spain between the Lisbon, Valencia and Paris gigs due to proximity.
