  1. uhm... are you implying that all of MADONNA's released songs since American Life was not radio-friendly as to why radio ignored her since AL?

Don't think that's what he meant. I think after the Fiasco that was American Life (single) programers had an excuse to finally throw her in the Cher(old act just popular with the gheys) category. After that no matter how good her music would be she was not going to get played.

  2. 4 Minutes came very close to being #1 and would have done in a different week.. there were 2 big songs ahead of it that week, one of which was Mariah who gets more airplay on urban stations.

The thing is.. whichever way you look at it.. Madonna was banned from the US airwaves along with the Dixie Chicks for speaking out against Bush and the war.. but times have changed and America is a free country again so there is a good chance that if the public likes then it can be a hit.

That may have been a scandal back then, but the only reason M doesn't get played is because of who she is. Being a legend has it's drawbacks. Radio will play what's new, what the kids want to hear as shitty as it may sound. It's also a different time, back in the 80s 40 somethings like Tina Turner could be popular along with someone younger. Now everything happens so fast, most popular artist are just in their 20s. Honestly we all new this would happen someday, an artist popularity doesn't last forever. Thankfully she has kept going in spite of everything.

  3. I don't really agree. I know someone who is the music director of a CBS top40/Rhythmic channel somewhere in the US and the phone requests have a huge impact on their playlist! Along with call out and the scores the song gets on music surveys that you can find on your local station's site or on ratethemusic.com

Especially, when 16-30 year old females call to request a song it is EXTREMELY important!!!

Lets all practice our fem voice and start calling :vanitybonet:

  4. Actually, i'm thnking maybe MADONNA has really lost her grasp for the HITS..i really think that her management is laying it all out for MARIAH dominance in the charts...I think she's letting go of her stature in POP music..she's giving up..co'z it seems to me, she doesn't care about her songs anymore, she's not promoting or anything. i mean, we saw from the Hard candy..she didn't bother to even visit one of tv to promote..that to me is being complacent.

They say that a good thing never last and that it has to fall

Those are the people that did not amount to much at all

  5. I don't think Madonna will make another statement until her tour starts. She's very good at not jumping on bandwagons just to be seen to say something.

I envision a MJ song during the request section...Im sure they started rehearsals on song selections as of friday. And didn't Jamie king have some history with MJ back in the 80s? I also see MJ replacing Obama at the end of the get stupid video.

  6. What if she does a Whiteny Blouston and releases a disc of slow tracks (with that im sorry song as a new track) and one of dance tracks(with celebrate)? also not go by just obvious hits but by what sounds good within The context of the album. Of course all tracks would be retouched and slightly remixed. I know it will never happen. Just thought it would be fun to speculate. Any thoughts?

  7. It was Jamie King. Just like every single video of hers from this decade that has at least some dancing, starting with "Don't Tell Me", through "Die Another Day", "American Life", "Sorry" and finally "4 Minutes".

lets hope 4m is finally the end of their colabo...

  8. No, I posted on on an r&b board where Madonna is actually pretty much loved.

You didn't know Dress You Up was a single, you should just shut up :vanitybonet:

right around the time 4mins was leaked there was a lotta love coming fro R&B hiphop boards, plenty of "do ur thing girl". love to hear non fans oppinions. which board if u dont mind me asking?

  9. I don't really think of that as being a lesbian encounter, I see it as something more maternal and spiritual. There was an article, somewhere, at the time that reckoned Secret alluded to heroin use and that scene was her detoxing (but I don't really read that from it). I also recall an interview (can't remember if it was Spin, Details or The Face) that mentioned some spiritual or psychic maternal figure M had in her life at that point (some old woman in Miami??), I think it somehow relates to this. I need to dig out those magazines to check that reference.

I think you're absolutely right about how deeply she was affected by the backlash, there's an almost palpable mix of bitterness, anger, sadness and vulnerability in her work and interviews that we'd not seen before nor since.

It's also (ever so mildly) interesting that she got pet dogs during this period, I never had her down as being a dog lover. Maybe she was lonely and yearning for those 3 kids she always said she'd wanted.

It was the details interview, with the same photoshoot as ur sig. If im not mistaking they asked her, what would we not find in ur closet? she awnsered GAP

  10. I can't say anything bad about this album, it is tied to a very adventurous and special time in my life. I was 18, away from home and just came out of the closet. I had a crush on this guy name Ozzie that loved M too, We all got the album on the same day. Ozzie heard the album before I did, I remember him saying "there is this cool song on it and she is whispering express yourself dont repress yoursel" and ofcourse Ozzie wouldn't give him the time of day so "I'd rather be your lover" was forever on repeat. I remember reading a little preview about the album way before it came out and how it was gona be pure dance pop...glad it wasn't.
