I think we should all just relax and wait for HC to run its course on the charts. Yes, the fact that WBR rushed to certify it Gold may mean they don't believe in its potential to become Platinum but this is only a speculation. There maybe other reasons they did so. It's not like WBR doesn't have anything else to do than sitting around and accessing Madona's certifications.
The certification may mean exactly what it is. It reached 500K sales and it's gold. Simple as that.
Regardless the certifications, people and media look at the actual numbers also. HC will not be the lowest seller of her career if it actually sells more than AL. No matter what the certifications say.
I agree. If the album scans 1M or quite close then WB will eventually certify it, I can't see how or why they won't.

Wow at Coldplay. Anyone else think that they will easily top Mariah's first week sales with their album?

HC remains #1 in Greece (on the comprehensive chart even, http://www.ifpi.gr/chart04.htm).
Its run is 1-1-1 on the international and 2-1-1 on the comprehensive chart).
Finally 4M and HC are added in the greek iTunes store, where they are both #1 right now.

Hm, taking into account that HC is doing relatively much better in Japan than in the rest of the world, could this mean that Miles Away is the single to sell the album? I think in Europe it has the potential to be a huge hit.

Sorry for the off topic, is there a thread where you discuss the Last.fm charts? Last week Madonna zoomed up several places:
http://www.last.fm/music/+charts/artist/
If they were ranking by number of plays she would be No. 5. And it's a very rock friendly chart with very few female artists.

Oh DEAR - this means that her IMPECCABLE chart run is going to be fucked up by this.
It doesn't matter if it happens with tracks that will be future singles, as they can improve their peak later on. But I think Candy Shop has the best chance to sneak into top 75 because it is the first one on the track listing.

Sorry to break your bubble but with Stuart Price she was just following the trend of modern disco that was (and still is) very popular in Europe way before COAD. With Mirwais, well, even her core fans failed to see how amazing album American Life was (best lyrics and best melodies of her career) and that was partly her fault because the first single was really dreafull imo. That single started her problems with the american radio from which she hasn't recovered yet.
4M is a COLLABORATION. Madonna, Timbaland and Justin, they all bring something to the table. It's a great single and a great video. Why does she always have to start trends? You're just too bought on what her PR machines tells you that she starts trends when perhaps she doesn't. The last time you could say she started a trend was with Ray of Light but even by that time electronica was a pretty popular music genre.
What Madonna does is make great pop records and sell millions of copies. 4M is no exception.
I totally agree. I'm very happy that she worked with Timbaland, he is the best producer working today and it makes perfect sense. Her biggest hit of the 90s in the US was a collaboration with Babyface, that time's top producer. Perhaps 4M is not vintage Madonna but it's a good song and obviously it connects with the general public. I think its success will translate into excellent album sales.
Will HC reach 1x Platinum?

I don't think that there is a Madonna album with higher soundscan sales than its RIAA certification. If HC scans 1M they will certify it platinum, maybe not at once but eventually. Ok, we can assume that they won't certify it for less, like they did with American Life. And it is too early to consider 1M completely improbable. With one more at least moderate hit (like Top 40 in airplay) it could happen.
