Finally ifpi.gr published the annual charts for Greece. See them here: http://www.ifpi.gr/annual_charts.htm
Hard Candy is #2 on the international chart (behind the Mamma Mia! soundtrack) and #12 on the combined chart.
-
I just read it for the first time. If there's a mistake people should stop repeating is to write off Madonna at every turn. Seriously, when will people learn?
-
The Top 10 run of Oasis singles comes to an end and Kanye's album drops 11-40!
Is that the longest still running Top 10 steak? If I count correctly they have 22 consecutive Top 10 hits.
-
Greece #32 (from #39, 23 weeks) on the combined chart and #14 (from #17, 25 weeks) on the international chart.
-
The nature of the charts has changed. Many hits from one album or long lasting streaks will be rare (and I mean not just for Madonna). Also I don't think that a video or TV appearances would matter a lot to MA chart position, but perhaps they could have helped the album, which is the point in releasing a 3rd or 4th single anyway.
-
In Greece it climbs to #2 from #3 on the international chart, and #8 from #10 on the combined. Also it is finally certified Platinum. According to ifpi.org Platinum for an international artist in Greece means 15.000 copies shipped.

For me it was the first time that I saw her live. It was an amazing experience and I still feel ecstatic. In some way it makes me regret for what I have been missing all these years. The HC tracks work very well live and made me appreciate the album even more. One song in particular that the show made me like even more is DWRY.

Curious as to how the concert will go there. The anticipation is huge and the stadium is TOO big for a Madonna concert. Greeks may be up to a dissapointment .. but let's wait ...
I don't think there will be dissapointment. Madonna should prepare herself for a very enthusiastic crowd. I just hope that the weather won't spoil it...

Greece, rebounds to #2 (from #35) in the international chart.

Nah. Plenty of songs by other artists still linger while another one shoots up. GI2M simply bombed. Lack of any kind of push from Warner or Madonna can also be to blame. Beat Goes On is the only hope to saving this album.
Yes, but Madonna isn't a US radio favorite artist and couldn't easily have two simultaneous hits. Also 4M had a peculiar release pattern, it was released to radio and as a digital download at the same time. For radio stations that take their time to add songs it may be still considered current. I'm not saying that GI2M should have set the charts on fire or anything but come on, Top 40 at Pop was a realistic expectation, with or without promotion.

35 37 MADONNA 4 Minutes 1148 1368 -220 6.085
46 46 MADONNA Give It 2 Me 638 639 -1 2.985 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So stable! Only 1 spin down!lol
I really expected that at the very least GI2M would hit Top 40 at pop. Part of its failure in USA (and perhaps also elsewhere) must be credited to the fact that 4M still lingers.
Thanks for the chart btw.

It's close to platinum in Greece?
I have no idea. It's the first time she comes to Greece, so I assume it will be eventually. Possibly by end of September, it's reasonable to expect that they will ship more copies of the cd around that time.

Week 8 in Greece, down to #7 (from #4) in the international chart and to #31 (from #22) in the combined.
-
7digital listed the digital single for this Sunday (July 13th):
http://www.7digital.com/new-releases
Two questions:
- I'm in Greece and I buy mp3s from 7digital (with paypal). Does the download count for the UK chart? If yes when should I buy it?
- Only two remixes? Will there be a maxi single in the future with more?
-
I got mine today at OAKA. I first tried yesterday evening after work but I was too late. The staff people I talked to were saying that 50.000 ticktets were sold yesterday and 20.000 were remaining. If this is true, I assume that today will be the last day apart from perhaps a few pitch B arena tickets.

The NY Post article is hostile and misleading. Quick to mention by how much Lil Wayne is outselling her but I wonder: at what type of venues does Lil Wayne perform? I bet Madonna surpasses him live by a much higher margin that he surpasses her at cd sales. Also they mention some slowly selling US locations but again is there any other artist that sells more tickets or makes more money touring than Madonna? I believe that currently not even Rolling Stones could do better than her.
I hope that with this tour Madonna will out-gross Live Nation's investment on her contract and for her next album and tour she will have creative freedom to do what she likes without worrying for the bottom line.

Greece: #10 (up from #14) combined, #2 (up from #5) on international. Radiohead are no #1 on the international chart.

I for one am happy for any sign that the music industry is still alive and people still care about buying albums. Coldplay should follow next week and they will be huge globally. Also very happy about HC's performance. Any questions about it outselling American Life are now pointless.
-
Yes! I admit that I was sceptical until the last moment. Seeing it at the official page made me believe it. I expect that she will sell out in a matter of days. Comparisons with Kylie are not valid. Kylie had a poor venue (too far away, used for rock concerts) and a bad date. Under other circumstances she would have done much better. Anyway, I'll make sure that I get my ticket at June 27th. I don't agree for U2, in my opinion they came at their peak (1997 with their PopMart Tour) and their show was fantastic.

Is Kalomira #1?
The singles chart has been suspended. If you mean the album I think it will chart in one or two weeks. IFPI reports the chart with one week delay (hence HC has only 4 weeks). You can see it here: http://www.ifpi.gr/chart04.htm

#2 in Greece (still #1 on international). Chart run:
Combined: 2-1-1-2
International: 1-1-1-1

One can only say "NO". Why?
If we extrapulate data from the past re: certs and re-certs, we clearly notice WBR being at best lethargic and uninterested in updating Ms back catalog. In recent memory, I dont recall any M cd that received a cert and a re-cert while being on BB200.?
Music and Confessions received a 1 time cert during their stay on BB200. It took 5 yrs later to re-cert Music to 3x.
I don't think that there is a Madonna album with higher soundscan sales than its RIAA certification. If HC scans 1M they will certify it platinum, maybe not at once but eventually. Ok, we can assume that they won't certify it for less, like they did with American Life. And it is too early to consider 1M completely improbable. With one more at least moderate hit (like Top 40 in airplay) it could happen.

Very excited about the new songs. I wouldn't mind any producer as long as there are no:
a) duets and featured artists, Madonna only please
b) cover versions
Also I think it would be wrong to include remixes or studio versions of live performances. They should stick with the versions that the public is more familiar with.
