LoveBoxx
Just saw this posted at tribe. Material Girl Leaves Doubters In The Dust For Biggest Tour Of 2008 Neither wind, nor rain, gas prices, nor the economy can slow down the momentum of Madonna fans who are turning out in record numbers all over the globe to scoop up tickets for the upcoming "Sticky & Sweet" Tour. Today, Live Nation confirmed that Mexico City's Foro Sol Stadium shows scheduled for November 29th and 30th sold more than 100,000 tickets in just three hours, resulting in back to back sellouts at the famed stadium. Mexico City joins the growing list of sold out Madonna shows in Paris, Lisbon, New York, Zurich, Boston, Chicago, Denver, East Rutherford, NJ, Oakland, Las Vegas, Houston, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver all of which sold out within hours of going on sale. To date Madonna has sold out 90% of the tickets available for her 42-date global tour, which kicks off in Cardiff, Wales on August 23rd. With more than 70,000 tickets sold for the Sticky & Sweet Zurich Show at the Military Airfield Dubendorf on August 30th, Lisbon's 75,000 tickets sold and 50,000 tickets sold for her Vancouver dates and four Madison Square Garden shows sold out in New York City in addition to the nearby Izod Center in East Rutherford for a total of 65,000 New York area tickets sold, Madonna has sold more than 1 Million tickets thus far on her global tour. Madonna, whose most recent CD 'HARD CANDY' debuted at Number One in over 30 countries, has made it her personal mission to challenge herself to top her previous tours. With rehearsals well under way for 'Sticky & Sweet,' Madonna and famed director and long-time collaborator Jamie King are creating an extraordinary never-before seen stage set, groundbreaking audio and eye popping visual effects. Madonna will be joined onstage with a new band and 18 dancers that reaffirm that this is a singular event that Madonna fans can not miss. "With 'Sticky & Sweet,' Madonna is on track to break her own record as the top grossing female artist of all time," said Arthur Fogel, Live Nation's of Chairman of Global Music and CEO of Global Touring. "Her sales are extraordinary in every market she's playing and illustrate what an unparalleled live draw Madonna is for music fans all over the world." Guest Hafo
Foro Sol is not a stadium, but besides that minor glitch, delighted they're highlighting the Mexico City sell-outs! They over-estimated some European dates and under-estimated Latin America. That'll teach Live Nation. In other news ... LOVE the mention of "a new band"! neutrocks
I think a lot of this is just fluff talk to hype her tour. Of course, she's going to outsell her previous tours. Charging everyone $350 a pop for many of the seats will guarantee high earnings. Auctioning off various rows on Stubhub and Ticketmaster for as much as $4000.00, you certainly are going to outsell previous tours. It doesn't mean you'll have a sell out. Money does talk in this world. As long as they can say she's sold so many dollars in tickets, it can surely downplay the fact that many of the seats sold were half that price if not even less on previous tours. By the time the tour starts, her shows will be jammed packed, but they were smart. They put the tickets on sale months in advance at top dollar. Previous tours, tickets went on sale as early as few months before the tour began... not five or more.

Guest Hafo
Celine's tour is not doing that well in some European dates, like Germany. Also she's playing smaller venues as far as I know. markm
More than a million tickets already sold Madonna fans have turned out in record numbers for her world tour, concert promoter Live Nation Inc said on Thursday, seeking to knock down reports the Material Girl is losing her appeal. The Los Angeles company said Madonna had sold more than one million tickets - over 90 percent of those available - for Madonna's 42-date global 'Sticky & Sweet' tour, which kicks off in Cardiff, Wales on August 23. Live Nation is trying to transform itself into a comprehensive music company, offering artists recording contracts and merchandising deals, as well as touring and access to its live venues. Madonna was one of the biggest names the company has signed for a reported $120 million contract. The New York Post reported on Tuesday that Madonna was failing to sell out certain venues, including a November date at the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles that sold just 27,000 of 43,000 seats. Live Nation spokesman John Vlautin confirmed the Los Angeles numbers, but said the global tour's ticket sales are on target to gross more than $250 million, which would shatter Madonna's own previous record for a female artist of $195 million from 'Confessions On A Dancefloor' tour two years ago. It has been a difficult month for Live Nation, with speculation mounting on whether the company overpaid to sign artists such as Madonna and rapper Jay-Z to be part of its new '360-degree' business model. Live Nation lost its chairman, Michael Cohl, last week after a fallout with Chief Executive Michael Rapino over this strategy. Cohl, who was head of Live Nation's artists division, had wanted to sign artists at a quicker pace, but Rapino wanted to sign around four to six marquee names a year. Cohl is now a consultant to the company. There has also been concern the slowing U.S. economy would hurt nonessential items such as rock concert tickets, which can cost up to $200 each for major artists - the larger share of Live Nation's revenue streams. Live Nation's management has said it is has seen no impact from the slowing economy, Vlautin said. From Reuters Via Yahoo! News

She's going to make a lot per show because she has a center stage. Guest FrozenLight
Well, in all honestly Celine is working for her money...It's not like M isn't but Celine is offering realistic prices and is doing 130 shows!! If she ends-up having the highest money making tours I will have to say that she deserves it. It M decides to go to Japan and Australia and performs in Stadiums she will outgross Celine easily. A this point, with the planned South American dates Madonna will probably have a total of 52 shows and will gross around $250 million Celine has about 130 shows and may gross as much as $270 million based on the info that is currently available from her grossed If Madonna goes on to add just Australia by performing 8 to 10 concerts there she will be able to add a good $30 million to her total gross...if she adds Japan she will pull more than $300 million worlwide...all she has to do is perfom a total of about 65 shows and her gross will be in the 300's
Guest Topaz Scorpio
Celine's tour is doing well that cannot be denied. She may rake in more money in the end but that is because she will be doing many more dates than M. Average gross per venue will likely show M coming out ahead though. Guest Danny86
I don't like the sound of 18 dancers. It seems very Vegas and Cher-esque to me. Well on CT she used 12 dancers but for "Jump" 3-4 more were added for parkour. Maybe for Sticky & Sweet there is going to be a number that has some special dancers, or something like that. And it's very possible that not more than 10-12 will be on stage at the same time anyway.
