Why does everything have to be fun and celebratory all of the time?

She showed that side 3 weeks ago in another performance. This was about something else for her......venue be damned. I expect GP to maybe be confused by that but her biggest fans not getting that?? Come on. Seriously? We are talking about the same Madonna right?

You have the biggest camp pop audience on earth to promote for your brandnew album - and then you give them a half-baked version of LaP, a politcal speech and a song they are obviously not interested in? That doesn't sound very clever.

It was live. There are 1000 things that could go wrong.

The arrangement of LAP was naked and left her vocals bare on top of that 97kbs midi file.

They should fix the vocal AND the background music on the video upload.

The problem is, the performance did not get better. The monk chants were much too long with her in the extremely unfavorable cape, the preachy middle part was too long, dark and preachy and Future wasn't the right song for this performance. It might have fit for Coachella or Glastonbury but not for this camp pop event. There was absolutely no big audience for it. I like Future, but Crave or Medellin would've been so much better.

The dancers do remove the gas masks, if I’m not mistaken...

And there are comments on that EW article stating that “I bet Madonna doesn’t even know/understand the conflict or how long it’s been going on...” So I guess maybe she doesn’t know her audience...? It must have been her first time in Israel... Maybe we should cut her some slack.

Every person lives in a bubble of their own, also Madonna. Sometimes it is obvious that she wants to teach people more than they need. Not that that's bad, but sometimes it's just inappropriate or just too much. She obviously didn't know much about the ESC.

I think fan hype and expectations being so high worked against her with this performance.

Go to the Eurovision forums: It has nothing to do with her fans. No one liked her performance.
At the Met gala last year she was brilliant and at the Eurovision Song Contest she spoilt it completely.

Madame X had a very bad day and terrible advisers.

But you don't need to prove it.

Simple truth is, Madonna has said she's not the greatest singer. She's not in denial of reality.

Like the banter on Blond Ambition tour where she says to 'Dick Tracy', "you can't sing?, neither can I and look how far I've come" :lmao:

But when relaxed and enjoying herself, she can sing beautifully.

I know that she can sing beautifully live and it would have been a great experience together with my friends and family to enjoy a decent version of Like a Prayer because it's the song everyone likes - even most Madonna haters. I love her voice and I wonder how she can sing like an opera singer sometimes - and sometimes shes not able to find simple first notes of her greatest hits she sang a hundred times. I guess that's one of the secrets of Madame X. 😅

how come you are so negative about it? don't you know that madonna is more than just vocals? you say nothing about the staging? the visuals? you can't say an entire thing is bad because you don't like the vocals.. you are ignoring a big part of the performance

The iconic lines "Live is a mystery, everyone must stand alone" are absolutely essential Madonna. If she is not able to sing them perfectly she shouldn't do it - especially not at the beginning of a performance that is seen by millions of vewers around the world. She spoiled her own performance completely in the first seconds. After that the performance did not get better.

If you look at her television performances (for the most part) vs her tour performance, it's like night and day. I can understand why the general public might think she's not a good singer or performer. She rarely puts on a TV performance as good as her tour performances. It's frustrating because we all know what she is capable of. I've seen many stories of fans taking friends and family to a Madonna concert and them being blown away. It's a shame the general public (again, for the most part) have not experienced that.

That's it:  I know she can sing perfectly and watched the show with my friends and family. Unfortunately I had to agree with them, when everyone said that she sang terrible.

    so:

she sounded off key during like a prayer, which is surprising, becasue she usually nails the song. It seems to me that she started getting nervous while she was singing ans he lost her own key.sad, because now everbody will be saying she has lost her voice etc..

That's what I thought.  She seemed very insecure and it was obvious that she had problems with the sound in her in-ears.  She should finally resolve these constant problems with her sound team consistently.

But she has always embraced elements of the dark and uncomfortable in her work. Not exactly new. Given the direction of the world right now, I'm wouldn't expect anything else from her.

I support her artistic and political point of view but the performance was musically and dramatically not well executed.
Her American Life video is an example that she can do it so much better: Powerfull, epic and tongue in cheek.
