Silverfox Posted August 18 Posted August 18 She actually leads the pack with 11 nominations - the most of any artist this year. Fantastic news! Do we really care about the VMAs at this stage? Not really. But is it nice to see the recognition for Madonna more than 40 years into her career? Absolutely! It isn’t just a nod here and there either, she is nominated in all the major categories. Will she appear I wonder? https://apnews.com/article/2026-mtv-vma-nominations-e9ac1be3adfd613c3bc348e83543832e Quote
Beautiful Killer Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Madonna leads 2026 MTV Video Music Awards nominations, followed by Taylor Swift Madonna leads the 2026 MTV Video Music Award nominations, the network announced Tuesday. The pop superstar has been nominated in every decade of her musical career. She has 19 competitive MTV VMA wins and in 1986 became the first solo female artist to receive the Video Vanguard Award. She is up for 11 awards at this year’s ceremony, including video, artist and song of the year as well as best collaboration, dance, direction, art direction, cinematography, editing, choreography and visual effects. If she were to sweep, she’d tie Beyoncé and Taylor Swift for the title of most-awarded musician in VMA history. They have 30 each. (Eminem is the male artist with the most VMAs, with 15.) Speaking of Swift: She follows Madonna with the second-most nominations, with nine. If she takes home even one award, she will become the most-awarded artist in VMA history. Swift is up for video and artist of the year as well as best pop, direction, art direction, cinematography, editing, choreography and visual effects. Madonna and Swift are followed by Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter with seven nods to their name as well as Bruno Mars, PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson with five. Blackpink’s LISA has four and Shakira, Tate McRae, GENER8ION and Yung Lean are tied for three. Rounding out the artist of the year category nominees are Grande, Mars, Carpenter and Morgan Wallen, in addition to Madonna and Swift. The top prize of the night, video of the year, sees Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” compete against Madonna’s “Confessions II — The Film,” Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” Mars’ “I Just Might,” Carpenter’s “Tear” and GENER8ION’s “Storm” starring Yung Lean. The two-hour show will broadcast live on CBS on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern and 4:30 p.m. Pacific, from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. It will also simulcast on MTV and be available to stream on Paramount+ in the U.S. The show will become available to stream globally the next day on Paramount+ and MTV. CBS is home to a number of award shows, including the Tony Awards and the American Music Awards. It has aired the Grammys since 1973, though that show will head to ABC in 2027. This year’s Video Music Awards features 26 first-time nominees, which include GENER8ION and Yung Lean (with their aforementioned three nods, for their “Storm” collaboration) and the K-pop boy band CORTIS and viral “Boston” singer Stella Lefty with two each. Other notable first-time nominees include Don Toliver, Kali Uchis, Noah Kahan, Olivia Dean, Tucker Wetmore and Sienna Spiro. The best dance category has returned for the first time in seven years. Nominees include McRae’s “Nobody’s Girl,” Bebe Rexha and Faithless’ “New Religion,” Harry Styles’ “Aperture,” Lady Gaga and Doechii’s “Runaway,” Madonna’s “Confessions II — The Film,” PinkPantheress’ “Stateside” with Larsson and Slayyyter’s “Dance …” Fan voting began online Tuesday across 13 categories and ends Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. Eastern and 3 p.m. Pacific. Voting in the best new artist category will remain active during the show. https://wtop.com/national/2026/08/madonna-leads-2026-mtv-video-music-awards-nominations-followed-by-taylor-swift/ Quote
sam1978mannheim Posted August 18 Posted August 18 But will there be a Jury or will fans vote? If fans vote: Zero Chance Quote
Ciccone's Cheeks Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Hmm...clearly video (which team 'shows up/payolas' stronger lol) of the year absolutely between M and Taylor. Also, ya, whether or not either actually SHOWS up! You all think M gonna bother 'attending this only to lose'?! lol And if this is mostly or entirely a 'fans vote' M just needs forget this shit lol. Silverfox Posted August 18 Posted August 18 So, we complain when she doesn’t get nominations and we complain when she does. Got it. Quote
Butter9 Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Am happy for her . 11 nominations and 3 in major categories as well . Quote

luizotaviobarros Posted August 18 Posted August 18 C2 film HAS GOT to win. It's a masterpiece, head and shoulders above any other video clips released this year. Quote
acko Posted August 18 Posted August 18 15 minutes ago, Silverfox said: So, we complain when she doesn’t get nominations and we complain when she does. Got it. That's not what I meant. But the VMA brand has cheapened so much over the last two decades... And she has been snubbed all this time... So to refer to this as 'finally some recognition' is a bit of a stretch. The woman basically invented MTV. Quote
Ciccone's Cheeks Posted August 18 Posted August 18 C2 Film should absolutely win. And normally pre 2000 something (esp. ya the last 15-20 years) would have. Like a shoe in. TFOO by Taylor is 'good video'. Checks every super safe, slick, corporate box of many other good videos we've seen over the decades. But it's not boundary pushing ART, game changing. Of course I/we all should be super thrilled & tingly seeing these headlines all over the place for her! I had to do a triple take. lol Totally relishing the moment. But some of us are just keeping it real (politics & how old the game is & it's predictability). BUT....let us all (ultimately) end up super pleasantly surprised at the end of Sept.! Again, let's see who shows up and doesn't lol Quote

Beastialg Posted August 18 Posted August 18 I just used my 20 votes. 10 for Video of the Year 4 for Artist of the Year Dance, Collab and Song of The Year, 2 each I feel she is winning at least 2 or 3 technical categories. I don't really care about the VMAs anymore, but this will sure help to create hype for the GRAMMYS. Quote
metalissimo Posted August 18 Posted August 18 (edited) The technical categories like visual effects, art direction, cinematography, choreography etc are non-votable categories, so still jury votes She sets the record for the oldest act with the most nods in a single year. The last time she had the most nods was in 1998 MTV VMA. Back then, who would've thought that 28 years later she will achieve it again at 68 years old. Edited August 18 by metalissimo Info Quote
Mozo1 Posted August 18 Posted August 18 I remember marveling at her Hung Up nominations at 46/7 for the MTV Awards. Still killing it 22 years later! Quote

Quote
Foolio Posted August 18 Posted August 18 I don't care if she actually can win or not. A UK top ten single and 11 VMA nods in the same week in 2026 is a sentence I thought I'd never write and that makes me warm in all the right places! And as irrelevant as these awards may in some ways be, the exposure can't hurt her Grammy run. Quote
VogueMusic Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Wow. Leading the pack with 11 nominations! At this stage in the game - fucking INCREDIBLE. No matter how cynical we all can be, this is an unbelievably good moment. And like clockwork, y'all shittin on it. Fucking Christ man. I genuinely thought folks here would have been having a field day, celebrating... should have known better by now... Quote
