What about commercials? In the Netherlands they always fill in the brake with commercials.

There’s nothing like that normally, don’t forget, the World Cup is broadcast throughout the world so different countries will do different things. Normally there’s commentary in the halftime period, it’s not filled with lavish adverts especially shot for halftime. Its nothing like SB in that respect where things are specially designed just for the halftime slot.

But I suspect it’s doing that because people are seeing it become Americanised and they don’t like it. I think it could work and bring a new dynamic to the final, the trouble is, after all these years all anybody really wants is to watch the football match. It’s different with SB, the halftime show is synonymous with the event. Millions of dedicated footie fans will just want to get to the 2nd half and see prolonging it as a nuisance.

FIFA has tried before to make the world cup final an event similar to US' super bowl, but it just hasn't clicked well. We'll see how this one goes, if anyone can make it an event, it's Madonna.

For some countries, especially in Europe, this may not even be shown. Usually during the halftime it is experts discussing what the last 45 minutes looked like, strenghts, weaknesses, what it takes to win in the second half. Those 15 minutes are also the time to pick up some drinks or food. This is not American Football, where there are interruptions basically every two minutes. This is 45+ minutes constant play with hardly any interruptions. The better idea would have been to have the show before the game.

I guess there will be no interviews with Frauke Ludewig for RTL Exclusiv in the future. What a bunch of assholes.

I disagree I think it will be shown around the world without exceptions, they have time now to ensure what they would have included in the halftime final is replaced with the show.

You or I could theoretically choose not to use any digital gadgets or have a bank account, but it would be extremely difficult to pull off a life in the modern world without them. That would take enormous effort and a dramatic change of lifestyle, whereas for a pop star to choose not to perform in an event is a choice of much less dramatic nature. To be clear, I'm not necessarily saying she shouldn't perform at the FIFA event, I just found the original comparison a bit far-fetched even though I understand the "who are we to judge" point.

I’ll just wait for YouTube the next day. I totally agree in a normal/standard World Cup schedule, but it hasn’t even started yet and they have announced a halftime show for the final. This changes what broadcasters will show in halftime in my opinion. So I think that changes it. They will accommodate the schedules to broadcasts the show in halftime. I don’t think it matters what time of the night it is, it will still be a big part of the World Cup final now it’s been announced to the press/world. I think they’ll be pressure in all countries to broadcast the halftime show to their citizens? Or am I totally wrong ? After all, the local commentators in individual counties will have all the other matches to chat about AND post-final win to chat about the match?

I don't think anyone will pressure broadcasters to show the halftime. Keep in mind those broadcasters paid hundreds of millions or even more for the rights to show the games in their respective country. And in some countries football is an almost religious experience. I know for a fact, in case Germany should reach the final (very unlikely) no one will care for the halftime show. Football fans are not really the target audience for Madonna (or BTS or Shakira) in the first place. They will care even less than the general public. At least during the halftime. Traditionally this is the moment when experts voice their opinions and analyse the game or they cut to public viewing events to talk to fans. My issue is the particular timeslot. The situation was completely different if the show was before the game. This would solve the tradition problem or would deal with it respectfully and the time restraints would disappear as well. They could have a 1 hour or 90 minute show before the game to get the "party" going, have the official part, national anthems etc. and start the game. Everyone will be happy. And here is the thing, in Europe those interested in the show alone could watch and go to bed afterwords, not caring for the game itself. Well, unless your country is in the final because then everyone will suddenly be a patriot. How do they say? In Germany you only see the German flag at government buldings or during the football world cup. Again, to have the show during the halftime break is ill-advised from my point of view. Not only are they changing the rules of the game, if they extend the break, they also ignore the traditions of the countries watching and an attempt to copy American football, which is (no offense) an inferior sport.

Big sports broadcasters usually have more than one tv channel/ outlet (for example in Mexico: Claro Sports 1, 2, 3, ...), so my guess is at least one of these might air the show. But tbh, people who watch these could not care less. As for bigger broadcast companies not necessarily specialized in sports but who paid to air the matches... Well, who knows. I remember in France 98 Ricky Martin sang that cup of life song and if I remember correctly (and I don't ) he did it before the match?
