Prime time on a summers Sunday evening when the entire population will be watching ! We are football mad over here, they are playing to an estimated viewership of 20 million watching the final which is a a quarter of the adult population ! I don’t think Madonna has EVER performed to that many people here, ever. Talk about the best promotional gig she could literally do for CONFESSIONS II isn’t in it! Plus, it’s 2 weeks after the albums release so it will absolutely lift the album back up after the release expected drop following its debut week.

FIFA Peace Prize to fuckin' Donald Trump and everything else a lot of you here have already mentioned. I've let M's lackluster and tardy response to the Palestinian massacre slide because I get how and why she's conflicted, I fully recognize she's human 2. Confessions II, grit, clubland and the soccer field don't match for me. The roll out's story telling so far has a very different tone so far, the right tone imo. This is off key, it throws me off 3. Madonna was never an artist for everyone, especially in 2026. Always saw her as a global niche artist, an anomaly. This is not the right platform for her , again IMO. Soccer fans, drank hetero masses etc. Not talking about the crowd in the stadium but about the billions tuning in 4. Live broadcasts,esp for random audiences, make me nervous these days. If I'll watch this, it will be surely from the safety of my own home, probs not live. Many detractors will be ready to attack her at the slightest misstep, and I'm talking exclusively about her singing performance. However, I wouldn't be so sure that in the end she'll give up sending a signal that makes the establishment uncomfortable. Although I remember, if memory serves, that she deemed Mia's gesture during the SB completely out of context, stating that it was a moment of unity between people and that finger didn't make much sense. We'll see what happens.

They will set her up for success by putting together a show that not only she can manage but in which she will shine. Also, 3 artists in 15 min is a very limited amount of time. CONFESSIONS II might be following an underground clubby vibe for the subcultures & the LGBTQ+ community but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be enjoyed and heard by the masses. COADF was an album that explored a specific dance floor environment but Madonna was still able to bring it to the entire world. It’s only because of how the charts are rigged for kids and the fact Madonna’s 67 CII won’t have the same impact, even if it is grittier. Madonna has always been the absolute word/name/concept of mainstream, even when she made cooler albums with alternative themes & vibes she was still Madonna, the most famous female pop artist on the planet. I totally disagree Madonna was ever a niche anomaly, that’s David Bowie, Madonna was a powerhouse of mainstream pop music. I don’t even agree with that term for Madonna in 2026, she’s a powerhouse legend of pop music, she might be a veteran now of pop music but with a list as long as hers of classic pop songs and a list of blockbuster albums, she can never ever truly be described as niche in my eyes. This is an opportunity to bring her new music to the global audience and that’s something Madonna has always done and sought to do, she isn’t an indie artist. This massive gig feels to me totally authentic, okay it might be football which isn’t exactly synonymous with Madonna BUT it’s a gigantic world stage, the kind she has always loved to be a part of, a stage she has made it her life’s work to be a part of.

Most football fans very often criticize FIFA for a whole multitude of reasons, they have for years, and it doesn't stop them from enjoying the sport or from enjoying the world cups. So I'm not worried on that front. What is not corrupted in our day and age anyway? Apple just agreed to use israeli chips in their iphones... and that's one example among many. Also Madonna is not a global niche artist, she appeals to people from all walks of life, she's sold millions of albums per album for over half of her career, the whole world knows at least one madonna song... let's be real, she fits this kind of global event. ESPECIALLY now that the general public seems favorable to her again. The KPop group BTS is even less "suited" than Madonna is, let's be real. Just a silly example but my mom, who's a big football fan alongside my dad was happy to tell me Madonna was to perform for the world cup. And that's the kind of response the general public is gonna have. "oh, these artists are gonna perform, cool" that's it

With everything she stands for - as an artist, as a woman, as a human being: FIFA 2026 and Madonna do not belong together. And no, in my opinion, you simply cannot put on blindfolds (or a purple veil) and separate entertainment and politics which is also something M has never done. What is/was she thinking?

But I think Madonna suits arenas far more and favours them as she can control the narrative more through production. Plus, the vibe of CII is more intimate and clubby, not sure how that would translate into a massive stadium? She can make a fortune in arenas anyways. Plus, if she wants to do a lot of stadium dates at her Celebration prices, I think it will need to be promoted as another legacy show, I’m not sure it will be as easy to sell out on the back of CII in loads of massive stadiums, critically acclaimed album or not.

Soccer/football is the biggest sport worldwide minus the US, so there must be corruption even within the music industry. It shouldn’t be tied to any belief system or personal political point of view. She should be there to represent the people who are usually ignored or erased by them.

That said, if there is an open mic, she can yell "Gianni, are you feeling gay tonight?". And if Trump dares to attend (I doubt it, the audience will give him hell) she could sing something like "Wake up, Wake up, get your cankles moving until the bonespurs hurt". Personally, I think she should not have agreed to do it (I understand it from a marketing point of view) because FIFA is the epitome of corruption and this event, especially the cooperation with Clobal Citizen is just another "washing" affair. Green washing, Pink washing, whatever.
