This is adorable ❤️!

Just scrolled past the first few hundred comments and not a single harsh word about Madonna.

Am I being naive or is the tide starting to turn?

No, I don't think you are. The tide has definitely been turning for a while now.

Her last two appearances at the Met Gala have helped to rehabilitate her image with the public, after the horrible reaction to her 2023 MTV Awards appearance.

The Jay Shetty interview also had a positive effect on social media, with many clips circulating for weeks that generated largely positive comments.

Obviously her music catalogue has also gotten a significant boost in the past couple of years, due to several tracks going viral in TikTok, as well as being spotlighted in huge movies like Deadpool & Wolverine.

However, I would say it all started with The Celebration Tour and her illness...

As soon as I saw the news I thought it would be cool if Shakira sang LIB.

And the other songs are all great choices to have a proper party feel. I’m a bit over LAP as her go-to song. But you know she’ll do candy shop and human nature.

im very interested to know what it means to have Chris Martin ‘curate’ the show. Does that mean he picks the songs and the themes allowed, or to fit a particular story they are telling, or will M get to do whatever she wants?

Now what do you really think?

Into the Groove and Whos That Girl could also make a live comeback

They all join Madonna at the end  to close the show with Bring Your Love, showing unity and world peace.

🤪

I'm pretty sure Shakira will close with her new World Cup song, possibly joined by the other artists.

I tend to agree. Love both but they are getting a bit played out. I think LAP was a mistake at Coachella whereas I think Vogue actually worked.

 Uh, are u sure about that? Did we watch the same show? 😆 Because the LAP part was THE moment of the whole performance - it was the part all over social media and legacy media, the Gen Z audience ate it up (as they genuinely love that song), and the live audience seemingly sang along.

Shakira is a legend & a total pro to her craft, her live performances are always dynamite.

For me, she was the star at SB not JLO, I do wonder if Madonna is a fan.

Either way, I would love the 2 ladies to share a bit of stage time!

Yeah, definitely watched the same show. I don't mean the song in of itself was bad, it just felt out of place to me in that setting. I saw replays of the performance from different angles and a lot of the crowd wasn't even moving, however, I think that had a lot more to do with them watching the show through their phones than not enjoying the performance.

They were gen-Zs who didn’t have a fucking clue about the song if we are honest.

The crowd was dead, but they were mostly under 25 so not the target audience for Madonna.

I appreciate what you are saying!  The World Cup final is very different. That IS the occasion to bring out LAP as everyone will know the words and everyone watching at home will know the song.

That's the feedback I heard but I wasn't there so I don't know. Since I'm 40 I don't have a lot of interaction with that age group but the song is iconic so I would be surprised if none of them knew it. The song is 37 years old so it's definitely a classic.

I’ve seen the videos they didn’t have a fucking clue 🤣 the crowd was dead so I agree with you, Madonna & Sabrina sounded amazing singing it, but you are right, it wasn’t exactly a crowd pleaser but was it never going to be, it was at Sabrina Carpenters set at Coachella but as a live performance it certainly worked and translated to the world on YT, because everyone outside of Coachella walls are familiar with LAP.

When LAP was in Deadpool there was a whole army of youth that had their very first exposure to the song. LAP is an absolute classic but not for the youth of today. It’s just as simple as that. But that’s the tictok generation for you, history starts in the year 2000 and nothing exists before.

The Micheal film will be triggering for the very first time for many kids, it’s unbelievable to us that they don’t know thriller but if their parents never listened to it, they don’t know it, it takes a big moment like the new film to bring them to it.

Cry me a fucking river

I´m not going to cry for it, but I think it´s a huge mistake, I don´t know for her career, but for madonna as a human being. She has always been with the people that were suffering, well, this time, not .She is with a man that has gvem to Trump a price for his job in favour of the peace. I was hoping that people were going to boicot the worldcup...and nobody seems to be talking about it, itñs trues. It seems that the people that follow eurovision have higher moral standars than the ones following the footballcup.

But no, I wasn´t expecting madonna to joing this shit.

And of course, I didn´t expect everybody here to think like me, but at least I expected people giving their opinion against mine with respect, yes.

That’s the last thing the album campaign needs! And the last thing a World Cup final audience needs to see.

It would bury her and bury the album.

She needs to use it as an opportunity to promote love & showcase a brand new single from the album, just like the SB.

but it will do it with dignity!

really,we are in a situation that...well, Hitler comes to mind all the time,Hitler, his followers, and the people that didn´t like him but let him continue with his shit.and the artits that collaborate with him, and  of course, and the ones that were against him to. Marlene dietrich would ask madonna to remove her name from  Vogue,

I´m really surprised about the amount of positive reaction that this news is having here! I guess my family´s suffering while Gernika was bombed makes me be very touchy with this type of situations.

I hope she has a phonecall by sean and tells her thinks like this, because I´m afraid that she is surrounded by people that only tells her one side of the story.

I am really sorry you feel that way and you have every right to voice your disapproval of Madonna playing at the FIFA event, you are certainly not alone in here with that opinion.

I feel differently, but that doesn’t mean I don’t respect your point of view.

I am sorry to read about your families suffering with bombs and your situation, sending you love and kind wishes.

Eurovision is on tonight. So all these people who watch and the artists who participate are bad human beings and have low moral standards? That is not very respectful.

Please, get real. The world cup is a massive event that literally hundreds of millions of people will watch. Those people do not give a shit about any political affiliations, they are watching for sport and in the case of the half time show, the entertainment.

well some people who watch eurovision in audience boo each time Israel entry comes on stage and couple of countries are boycottin the show This year (because Israel is still there), still the show is a go and most people 💓 it even if they dont like the politics of some participants..

Have mixed feelings 'bout this. I get that she wants to promote the record big time. And the world cup ís a big thing. But the corrupt FIFA? With that power seeking, no backbone, fraud Infantino? With their ridiculous 'peace-price' for that big fool, that pos in the wh? He uses this world cup for propaganda and now M is part of it? She cant afford to make the same mistake twice. Using a platform like this and Eurovision for a political anti-trump statement. Commercial suïcide. I guess this time she'll play it safe.

This is turning into a similar situation like the actors backlash who have chosen to take part in the Harry Potter HBO series.

Yet I’ve only read the misgivings about Madonna playing in here, nothing outside of fandom ? At least not yet is that to be expected? An onslaught of criticism at Madonna’s door for playing the World Cup?

I agree with you.  She should limit her political performances to audiences who would be more receptive to that, such as fans who have paid to attend her concerts and know what to expect.

Yeh that’s true.

We are paying to see it and expect it and welcome it at a Madonna concert.

Those who are paying a fortune to go and see the World Cup match live, or giving up their time to watch it on TV around the world are not tuning in for a lesson in politics.

Gen Z more than knows Like a Prayer.  Come on people. It's one of my 12 year old nieces favorite songs and I didn't even introduce it to her!

The reason the crowd looked like they didn't know it is because that's what these dumbass crowds look like now.  Standing there like braindead zombies looking through their phone.  Sabrina was the main damn act and the crowd was the same freaking thing with her.

Amen!
