Crystal Coffin Posted July 5 Posted July 5 So...they are so different I want us to articulate the differences. Clearly. CII is sharper, richer, and the vocals are clearer - less drowned by the production. COADF does not have the 90's sounds. Add more! Quote

svperstar Posted July 5 Posted July 5 The first Conffessions is a great collection of very listener friendly pop songs dressed up as club stompers. Confessions II is quite literally a club album. Not all of it is designed to be heard on radio, and ergo goes far deeper into its experiment with dance. Quote

I understand the hype and love for COADF, but musically I identify more with the style of CII, besides I feel that the concept of "confessing on a dance floor" is better achieved on CII. Unpopular opinion, but the success of CI is directly influenced by Hung Up, even if there are some other strong songs there (Sorry, Get Together). I do think CII has strong songs as well, but comparisons and expectations kind of overshadow them. For me personally CII is placed much higher than CI Quote
Benjl1993 Posted July 5 Posted July 5 COADF has always been a pop album stylised as a disco/dance album. CII is truly a dance album, the 'poppiest' moments of BYL and LS are still lead by a deeper, housier bassline. COADF is a seminal album, absolutely legendary, but I think the flawless singles do the heavy lifting. CII lacks the dynamite pop bangers but excels in delivering a deeper, darker and more interesting sonic journey in it's production. Quote

svperstar Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Another observation. Confessions I is a record by a woman who was in a good place in her life and wanted to share the bliss and joy of it. Confessions II is a record by an older, traumatized woman who is facing her own mortality and wants to forget about the darkness ahead. Quote

bard Posted July 7 Posted July 7 COADF is tighter and more sonically cohesive. also better vocals throughout. C2 is more ambitious, personal, and musically diverse. also dirtier. Quote

stevo208 Posted July 7 Posted July 7 I may get lynched for this, but I dont care, CII is a far superior album to CI. The lyrics, the sound, the structure, the confessions this time are actual confessions. This album stands head and shoulders above the first. And don't get me wrong, I loved the first. Quote

She sounds the purest, most human in "Fragile" - nothing on COADF is anywhere near that. And she probably hit some of her clearest lowest notes ever in "L.E.S. Girl" and "The Test", and they are not overwhelmed by the production. There are things that we can have different opinions on, but there are also objective truths. (And by the way, Caution remains one of the worst albums ever made - an objective truth too.) Quote
acko Posted July 7 Posted July 7 I always found CI overrated. This album is a masterpiece. COAD is not in her top 5 imo, though still ‘good’. Quote

bard Posted July 7 Posted July 7 since we're comparing eras, anyone else notice that these albums both followed experimental/divisive albums produced by mirwais? 11 minutes ago, dollhouse said: im trying hard to remember CI stronger vocal moments, perhaps Jump with the lower register? clearer mixed vocals with less effects thou Sorry had that same robotic metallic effect that Stuart always prefers.. i'm not saying her vocals on COADF are the best of her career or anything, but generally speaking i think they're more consistent. her voice was just in better shape. i prefer the new album overall, but that's one of the differences i hear. acko Posted July 7 Posted July 7 Stuart said the vocals are mainly the demo takes. Combined with the old mic, so this is basically like Erotica where she specifically used a ‘ cheap’ microphone. Quote
