It's funny but I still can't remember some songs like Everything, Love Without Words, School and Sins are my Saviour. Their melodies just aren't sticking with me although I'm really enjoying the whole album though. I think this is the first album I can put on and just listen to it all the way through.

I can't get over how strong it is. Recency bias may be a thing, but so is the fact that Madonna's stature is founded on the perfection of earlier albums, their influence having reverberated back and forth throughout the cultural landscape over decades, which has contained the untouchable flawlessness of those installments of her legacy in amber... I would actually say we're more likely to be inordinately hard on new material, in her case, because it's not the stuff on which the legend was predicated. How do you not take something new and compare it unfavourably to albums that actually changed the world? And yet this might end up in my top five. I'm seriously astounded. She's exquisite. So impressed and so proud.

Exactly. If anything, recency bias has me underrating the album somewhat. Like I just can't believe she's made a body of work on par with the "untouchable" classics of yesteryear like Erotica, ROL, and LAP... but she has and it's every bit as good.

Ya, it's well past the point now (*esp this week..omg)  for him to so abruptly mia he's def. dealing with something personal & likely pretty heavy.  Long as he's okay and knows he's missed. If/when he returns I'm sure it'll be w/ a glorious bang w/ a LOT to say!

Don't get me wrong, I love the songs when I hear them, but the melodies aren't sticking with me yet. I'm singing Bizarre, LS, OS, GFTS etc but I just can't remember these. 

But it's such a great album and I love L.E.S girl.

I'm in love with this Album. Not a skipp (?) for me. I sometimes play the album in blocks (depending on my mood). There's 3 blocks for me. Block 1 goes from track 1 to Track 4. Block 2 from track 5 to track 11 and Block 3 from track 12 to track 16. 

Block 2 is what I play the most, and its because of Danceteria!!! I did not expect to LOVE this song soooo much!!!

Yes, what she's done with this is an even bigger achievement because even the fans were a bit sceptical.

It makes me wonder: are Warner Records giving this such a huge roll-out because they realised how strong the album was when she first submitted it to them? Or would they have done it anyway?

It's definitely hard to rank them, since there aren't any songs on this album that I don't like (just some I like less).

Honestly it’s like this with me for the entire album. It’s almost like the songs are “undercooked”? Usually Madonna’s songs are instant hooks for me. But this album reminds me of the introspection of ray light just with more dance sounds

Been sitting with this for a whole week. I didn't feel ready to put a review or a ranking as such, it's been too overwhelming as an experience. This feels like the most exposed Madonna release I've experienced and I've been a hardcore since 2003. So many people are discovering her, reacting to her, having an online commentary about her work, her life, her ageing. This is the digital age after all, and its draining. That's not to say I haven't enjoyed the experience of this rollout, it's been really special to see her shine.

So the album, what can I say that others haven't? As a piece of work in a discography it puts me in mind of The Next Day or American IV: The Man Comes Around. An essential, vibrant, touching and brilliant record that brings an icon back to the public imagination in a culturally important way. Danceteria, One Step Away, L.E.S Girl and I Feel So Free are all-time career best tracks. They easily sit inside a Top 30 Madonna ranking. An incredible achievement almost 50 years into her career. 

I'll dine out on this album for years, in a way I haven't quite with her more recent releases (though I stand by Madame X's at least partial genius). I suppose what this makes me most excited for is for her next steps. Something has broken away, an insecurity or a blockage.

I keep re-hearing these lyrics (and probably not in the context they were intended, but hey its all interpretation) and I imagined her singing them to herself, one of her previous selves who had more confidence and reminded her that this was still in her to give. The start of this decade have probably been the most brutal ever for us as a fanbase; endless, vicious hitjobs from the media, her various questionable rebellions via Instagram and then Summer 2023. 

So what can you really take away from this album? That she's a survivor? Nah we already knew that, I've learned that she's truly human...but what a fighter my god. And it also put me in mind something she often quotes her dad on:

One of the most moving aspects of all of this, is that though so much of her work has been defined by her mother's passing, she has the infatigable soul and spirit of her dad stored deep. 

And so, I keep hearing some people talking about retirement or slowing down. Actually for the first time ever, it's not being framed in a cruel way, as if in some way this album is such an achievement that it would be such a high to go out on.

After listening to this, I've never been more certain she's going to be proactively getting into people's faces, ears, minds and hearts for decades to come. Have your doubts? In 1998 Silvio was the age she is right now. Madonna has won the public's affection again, it's been a long time coming, but I suspect that in the coming years she's going to blow that goodwill to pieces, divide opinion, scandalise and then win it all back yet again. We ain't done yet folks, not by a long shot. And you know what? I've never been more ready to embrace every second of it.

I've said this a billion times.  Anyone that ever claims that Madonna should, and would retire knows NOTHING about Madonna!!!!!  

It ain't happening!!!!! 

I know it's ridiculous to talk about so fast but I'm excited as hell to see where she goes musically after this era. (I mean I'm always excited)  I said I feel like a song like L.E.S. Girl could point in a nice direction. More stripped back story driven writing and music.

I've been listening to this album all week. I can't stop. It's genuinely brilliant and easily up there with her best. The lyrics are so deep. I keep playing One Step Away. "Understand your violence, the trauma you survived" is chiming very personally. At her best she always knows just what to say to me  Seriously I can't gush over this album enough. It's got everything I love about M in the space of an hour. The best of the 90s, the best of the 00s and some of the 80s - but most importantly it is her NOW. Her voice now. Her words. She's so wise. So warm. So tough but so vulnerable. It's just the best of her and so heartwarming and reassuring to know there is always more to come, always a way for her to surprise us.

Also I have really enjoyed reading the lyrics and for the most part seeing just her and Stuart's names attached. Obviously some songs have other writers on but you can just feel her across the lot of it. Nothing feels written by committee! She's done a lot of work on this, digging deep, and it shows. I hope people are appreciating this.

This album is better than C1 am I right or am I right? 

it doesn't rely on just one or 2 hit songs and the 2nd part has more "confessions" than most her records 

strange that it gets better and better with each listen! (when the first listen was amazing still)
