I wonder, however, if we have forgotten that when we wrote essays at school on different topics, among these different pieces of writing we could not find elements of common styles, periphrases, circumlocutions that we repeated because we liked them and wanted to insert them to distinguish them. We wrote them, just as M writes her songs.

Madonnas new songs will always go thrue the Hit or Not validation by some fans and if it fails, the song is trashed And its kinda understandable with her vast hit full catalogue

Yes, exactly.

I don’t need another „banger“ when she just released her most beautiful catchy song in a long time. Right? Some would have her record shit if shit could get her a #1 single. But... LS has me moist as a snack cake down there for COADF II. I've yet to even give it the true stoned and headphones test as I've been busy. Tonight, it is on!!!

What people seem to be forgetting, or at least not mentioning, is that Madonna was 47 years old when HU was released and it was A LOT easier for her have a hit record. M has put out PLENTY of quality music in the past 20 years that has been ignored but if the same songs had been released by Taylor Swift they would have been MASSIVE. Gan you imagine the success of GHOSTTOWN released by TS? It's not fair, but it's the world we live in, I am however glad to see that legacy artists are getting a little more love these days than say 10 years ago.

Mozo1 Posted June 5 Posted June 5 So the song, released yesterday, isn't iconic enough for some already? Some of y'all need to start your day by dropping a Xanax in your Diet Coke before posting.
Gabriel Ciccone Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Why people still insist about a hit single? Haven't you realized Warner/Madonna's team are promoting the album, and not a particular song going viral, #1 on the charts or whatever. What needs to be said to understand once and for all? If you insist in thinking about that, it will affect just YOUR expectations. and quoting Bring Your Love, she doesn't want your expectations
Mozo1 Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Anyhoo, I love how Get Together adjacent Love Sensation is. I have accidentally told Alexa to Play Love Profusion a hundred times, but I love that one, too! For CII - all releases are 3 outta 3 wins for me! Can't say that for MX or RH for me.

Ageism is evident and won't go away because it's a way to attack your supposed "opponent," therefore absolutely functional to this perpetual squid game. What perplexes me is this splitting hairs over the similarities between songs by the same artist, doing DNA analysis to see how many genes they have in common. Maybe it's because we're fans and therefore fanatics and we overanalyze everything M does, but I don't understand what the ultimate goal is. Do we want to accuse M of plagiarizing herself?
Silverfox Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Just checked Radio 1’s new playlist and LS hasn’t been added. Not that I expected it to be but a shame given it’s such a summer banger. Pretty much confirms that BYL was only added because of the Sabrina collab, which of course, we knew. Will be interesting to see if LS picks up any love from radio. Not that the A-listing at Radio 1 made any difference for BYL anyway!

Not that the A-listing at Radio 1 made any difference for BYL anyway! They didn't play it on Radio 2 all day today too but they've been really pushing BYL and played IFSF a lot too. I feel they may add it next week or the week after. Taylor is Radio 2's record of the week next week which isn't surprising even though it's her usual bland mush.

That's exactly what it is. The casual Madonna fan won't notice the things we notice because we do analyze things to death - just like Madonna does. The only time a casual M fan said to me, "sorry to say this, but this sounds like something she's already done" was when I played Celebration but that song was supposed to be reminiscent of her previous songs.
Benjl1993 Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Yeah she's 3 for 3 with me this era. I haven't been this into the music since Confessions. How can I ask for more than that at this point? Her contemporaries are releasing cover albums and doing the hits in Vegas (no shade, I love them too, it just highlights how utterly incredible Madonna is).

But that's fine. How many times have we joked about the use of recurring phrases in her lyrics like "a mouth to a flame"? The point is that after noticing these similarities, you can easily move on. Unless there's a subtext to these posts: that is, that M is running out of ideas and she's "recycling" her repertoire.

I suppose I was saying that the AirPlay didn’t necessarily translate into streams or a chart hit. But you’re right, #1 airplay is a huge deal and it all contributes to awareness of the song and the album.

I think to a certain degree there's some truth to that but look at the hundreds of songs she's written. I think the official number of published tracks is around 250 I believe.

Silverfox Posted June 5 Posted June 5 I generally thought the same thing but the stats say otherwise. I doubt they listen religiously but young people do tune in. These stats from BBC. — 3.5 million listeners are in the 15-24 age range, meaning 44% of the UK's young adults listen to Radio 1 in an average week.

MadFan Posted June 5 Posted June 5 I totally get the decision to use the beat up mic from COADF 1 and think the flawed vocals are intentional. I'm not trying to be a cultist but Madonna has been an extremely detail-oriented perfectionist her entire career. She hated making mistakes and would rehearse and prepare like a fanatic to avoid them for the first 40 years. Since her near-death experience it's obvious that she's changed. She's talked about this in her spiritual interview a couple months back. Look for yourself, the Celebration Tour is more human than her military tours beforehand. She's looking into the audience's eyes, going off script, giving long monologues, laughing when she falls down (compare to how mortified she was when she fell at the Brits 9 years prior). She's taking herself less seriously and you can sense that it's all water off a duck's back these days for her. Love, hate, criticism. Pretty big change for the biggest perfectionist in pop. You don't get the vibe that she's portraying what a tough survivor she is for having survived sepsis. Rather, that she's human, that she's in the autumn of her life, and that it's actually time to "feel so free". And the mic is like her: older, more fragile, less perfect. It's a lovely reinvention and I think people will look back on it fondly.
