The gays should know better. 50? She's been dealing with this shit since her late 20s. Tiffany and Debbie Gibson came along in their teens and it was obvious Madonna was being viewed as the old fart who needed to step aside. Imagine if she listened to these haters!? She was being called "Grandma" at 35 for christ sake. Quote
VogueMusic Posted June 7 Posted June 7 11 hours ago, Skin said: I didn't want to yuck peoples yum after the performance so I didn't say a thing, but since you opened the door.... I think by and large what we are seeing is simply age at this point. Would I love to see her bust out choreography effortlessly like she seemed capable of doing up to the Madame X era? Of course! But the woman is going to be 68! And the toll of performing and training like an Olympic athlete for 4 decades no doubt is going to hit her body hard. We know the excruciating pain she was going through during the Madame X Tour. It sucks. Its depressing as hell, but I believe she'll find a way through it. I have no doubt she'll always perform, but I think after this era it will evolve into something different. I'd be ecstatic as hell just seeing her performing with her guitar. I mean take a performance like Miles Away during Sticky and Sweet. She is fully capable of commanding a stadium simply doing that. In some ways I feel like this era could be her last send off in terms of making a full on dance record and giving it everything she has in that area. I also think that's why she visibly teared up looking over Times Square and taking it all in. Time marches on and here she is in a full circle moment performing at the place where in many ways it all began for her when she first came to NYC. No I am NOT one of those that believes for a second she will ever retire. She will always be creating and giving us something, but it's also why I am taking in and fully appreciating what we are getting now, because it could be one of the last times we get it in the form we have become accustomed to for close to 45 years! THIS. Perfectly said. I think she’s doing incredibly well given all the factors, and everything she has to deal with health wise. She so easily could have coasted and took the easy route, but she refuses. And I feel the same way, that this may be the last time we get a full dance era, with all the stops (before she goes off to do her biopic, which clearly is incredibly important to her still, naturally). It definitely feels full circle, truly. So I say just live it up and enjoy it all while we got it. 10 hours ago, Ciccone's Cheeks said: Worst fng WORST 'disastrous demo' in recent human history. Upper tier of all human history lol. Basically in every way. Politically, culturally etc etc.... Hmmm, I think we should be careful to brand an entire generation with one broad stroke… a lot of boomers were responsible for the civil rights era, woman’s liberation, gay rights, etc….They accomplished incredible things. And it’s not like the young folks have turned out to be some sort of saviors either… 9 hours ago, RoyalMadonna said: I personally think Madonna can still move fluidly enough, but the heels make her hold back because I think she has less balance than before. I truly wish she would go back to dancing in flat shoes like 1984-1990. My guess is she can probably move as good as she did on The Celebration Tour, but we seem to be forgetting that she’s wearing heeled boots this time around, which combined with age, are obviously going to limit her movements. Not to mention she was incredibly high up, on a rotating platform, in a space she didn’t have much time to rehearse in. All things considered, I think she did quite well. If she was wearing shoes like in the first act of the TCT, she could probably dance as well as that. 5 hours ago, Bill said: She is being absolutely torn to shreds online. It’s everywhere I look. I can’t fucking stand it. Hmmm, where are u looking? That’s the issue. Personally, I’ve seen far more positive reactions than negative where I have been looking. Truly, even outside of the typical fan base. The negativity has been mostly from the usual suspects - the typical right wing haters, other stans from other fandoms, etc. 4 hours ago, Bill said: Yes, it is on X. What a cesspool. I mean, how does it attract so many disgusting people? Ah ha, twitter. Well, what did u expect? That is the very last place anyone should look for rational, fair opinions about anything … especially since it was bought up by Elmo Musky. He’s destroyed the place, and deliberately elevated the nasty posts. Also, they’ve done studies on the platform, and they found out that something over 50% of the users commenting are not even real people anymore. Quote

I mostly see praise on x. the hate is on instagram. the platform doesnt matter I saw an instagram story defending M and thought it was odd, because I only saw the love/praise on this forum and with other fans and even some non fans, then I saw the video the woman reacted to defending her, and it was horrendous to see the comments. it was brutal. not on x, on instagram. videos with millions of views, thousands of hate comments. So,that's why I warned you people, if she doesn't show the best she can be or change it up (or just leave the good parts) for the World Cup, we'll be in for an awful trip. Quote
VogueMusic Posted June 7 Posted June 7 At this point, I’m thoroughly convinced some of y’all actually want to be disappointed… Quote
Ciccone's Cheeks Posted June 7 Posted June 7 Omg...yes she was soo being called 'old' (& waay worse than that) when she barely mid 30s! US media esp. were beyond horrific. Well before 50 yold she was called things I'm not gonna dignify or waste an ounce of energy repeating. But many...likely most here remember. Ya, tbh from what I've read at least so far (yes...on X ) it's actually been generally pretty damn positive. Like ~70/30...maybe 75/25 positively, praise, props than haters or trolls. Of course they're around and vocal as w/ everything & everyone. Quote
Skin Posted June 7 Posted June 7 Also look how fucking massive Taylor Swift is. She's been the biggest thing on the planet for a good chunk of years now (which will forever puzzle me) and even she had an ENTIRE stadium boo the hell out of her simply because she was put up on the jumbotron. I actually think it shows Madonna is doing what she needs to do if the haters are being reached. We all live in our own algorithmic bubbles at this point where we are rarely fed things that haven't been curated by the powers that be to our likes and search histories, so if Madonna is reaching people's feeds that have tuned her out or haven't thought twice about her in awhile, GOOD to be honest. She'll have to deal with the hate, but maybe a chunk of these fresh eyes will see what she's doing and take notice/appreciate it. Gain new fans or regain ones who left years ago. It shows she's not only reaching and "preaching" to the choir. I think that's why the reaction to Coachella seemed more positive. Those articles and posts were only reaching people who were more inclined to love pop music maybe? I doubt Billy Bob in West Virgina sniffing his meth farts in his recliner while watching Fox News was getting Coachella news on his online feeds to rage on about. Quote
bard Posted June 7 Posted June 7 regarding her age and mobility, it's unfortunate that she can't (or won't) compensate by focusing more on her vocals, but she could also be leaning more into multimedia technology and just pure spectacle. there was a bit of that with the staging of the time square show, but i think she relied too much on dancing around by herself. she's always been great at adapting, so i hope she'll find new ways to present her songs that don't involve thrashing about. BS and LAP and even JML from CT are some good examples of the type of things she could do to avoid strenuous dancing. and look at bjork, who's never been a dancer - her shows are very focused on technology. Quote
Skin Posted June 7 Posted June 7 Speaking of ways to get around intense dancing, remember when Gaga was high as a kite meeting with a disabled fan, and she went on about showing her how the camera can make it look like she's dancing. So Madonna. If you're ever bed ridden, take notes. Quote

Alexa Posted June 7 Posted June 7 (edited) 8 hours ago, markm said: The comments on X are horrendous both ageist and sexist. Some of them are posted by gay guys which I find shocking. Why are people so bitter and mean? It’s jealousy thats where it really comes from. Why isn’t my FAVE the queen of pop, why does M deserve to be queen, blah blah. And then you have the younger gays who think a certain someone should be the rightful queen And it also comes from the media putting woman Artist against each other. Edited June 7 by Alexa Quote

Also, some of you seem old enough to have gone through enough of her eras to already know that. If social media existed during Ray Of Light, there would still be plenty of people giving her crap online too. I have been a fan since Music and when I told to my mom that I discovered someone called Madonna and that she was my favorite she replied: "Huh? That slut!?". During COADF I also read (and was told) plenty of horrible things about her from different sources and she was back on top. This has been happening since 1983... and it will never stop. Furthermore, now we are in the most ageist society that has ever existed, with fandoms being at their most aggressive too and a generation (Gen Z) who are so scared to be old that they have been getting botox and fillers at 16 and Gen Alpha doing 12-step skin care routines from Sephora being 9 years old. Even if you stanned someone like Taylor or Beyonce, you will still read negative comments all over the place. No one is safe and everything is out there to be seen and consumed. Just enjoy that your fave is the greatest artist that has ever existed and that ever will, and the people who don't see it, then it's their loss. They can continue their delusional lives thinking someone like Gaga invented pop and the gays or that Beyonce is an example of feminism or whatever... Quote

Shut Your Mouth Posted June 7 Posted June 7 Omg y’all should know better by now after MANY years to stop going down the rabbit holes of looking at the negative comments to just about anything online (especially social media) about Madonna and letting it spoil your enjoyment. It doesn’t matter how great she does they’re always going to hate. In fact when she does greater than usual they obviously get more desperate to tear her down. Anywayz TRANSLATION: Official information confirms that Madonna gathered more than 50 THOUSAND people in Times Square for her surprise mini show, which was announced just 30 minutes beforehand, establishing herself as one of the biggest shows ever recorded at the venue. Check out crowd estimates for other artists: Shakira - 40 thousand Charli XCX - 8 thousand Quote
Anne Posted June 7 Author Posted June 7 Video of the whole set from the street level, it's interesting to catch details that weren't shown on the official livestream And I guess she will upload it on her YouTube channel in the upcoming days. Quote
dwsfl Posted June 7 Posted June 7 The naysayers have been there since the beginning, but that's never stopped M from doing what she wants, (and succeeding) they'll try and rain on her parade anyhow. They'll try and rain on our parade knowing that we're having fun, but that just makes them look incredibly bitter at the end of the day, misery loves company. They'll say something regardless, but she does exactly what she wants, lives how she wants and doesn't care what anybody else thinks. That's the secret to a happy life. M's a survivor, and she doesn't require validation from anyone. Never has and never will. Quote

Agree Grace Jones is a good example of someone who does this too. She doesn’t operate on the scale of Madonna obviously but a lot of ingenuity goes into her live shows, probably for budget reasons as well as her age. I remember seeing her with a glittery bowler hat which reflected all the lights like lasers. It was simple but so cool. I do think Madonna did brilliantly on Thursday though. Some of the shots from behind the dj decks showed how weird and disorienting it must have felt performing on the rotating stage at that height. For her own tour, she would be much more sure-footed. I think the travelling is putting her off though. Maybe she will do residencies again like during the MX Tour, but this time at arenas, rather than going from city to city. Quote
