Crux Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Am I the only one who doesn't like Arca? I just don't get the hype at all. EDIT: Oh wait, Just seen @Sanctuary1995 post. lol

Ok i wonder if the rumour sounding like Sorry part2 is true as well?
Sanctuary1995 Posted February 23 Posted February 23 But then again I wasn’t excited about Hard Candy collaborations, but I liked the album

EDIT: Oh wait, Just seen @Sanctuary1995 post. lol I like Arca personally. It's a creative mix of urban/reaggeton/latin music with more experimental/electronic sounds. It doesn't sound like HIT material though. About Sabrina, she is right now #19 in Worlwide Spotify, so a collab will for sure help to get the single chart in all the main markets.
Jairo Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Arca is not an urban artist AT ALL lmao she is an experimental and electronic DJ, several of her albums are high ranked on Pitchfork and the critics love her. I saw her performing in Colombia a few years ago and she is not a reggaeton/urban singer at all. Love that Madonna is collaborating with underground artists like Arca who is also a trans woman and very talented
dollhouse Posted February 23 Posted February 23 collab with SC could be great artisticly if they chemistry match like i think will

Look at Maluma collaborations. Actually all her collab with hit streaming acts have given her zero added value, minus JT and The Weeknd. I d argue its because those are artists respected by her fanbase whose music most Madonna fans would love anyways.

dollhouse Posted February 23 Posted February 23 ^Nickis verses are usually praised by youngsters, so I think those added popularity And isnt the Brittany collab the biggest song from AL era?

Tbh, even in the pre-streaming era, her collaborations with big stars didn't produce much impact. E.g.: LS with Prince. But it's also right that she tries to broaden her musical horizons with artists she admires.

SC is not a slam dunk. and female collabs (especially ones with older artists) don't always do well. a male collaborator is preferable. but oh well.

Maluma was not even close to the star power Sabrina Carpenter has in the USA and the UK. And Maluma is even seen as a kinda "joke" artist by some people in latin american markets (all pretty without substance). Medellin didn't appeal to either Madonna fans or general public (it was a weirdly produced song with a mix of genres) If the song M & Sabrina worked is Pop/Dance, it should do much better, it is what both fanbases want.
Nikki Posted February 23 Posted February 23 a Sabrina collaboration (the name alone.. lord) is so predictable and desperate. which means she'll def do it and make it the first single. they never learn.

Oh, just my personal perception I guess.. not important.. that’s why I put it in parentheses. like certain names that carry stereotypes for me. It’s more about that association than anything serious.
systemvalues Posted February 23 Posted February 23 1 minute ago, bardo said: i'm not totally convinced yet, but what could possibly be wrong with her name? M collaborated with Britney and we know how it went. S.C. has had several hits lately and has significant media exposure. In light of this, I don't see why M shouldn't feature her in one of her songs and film an MV with her.
Crux Posted February 23 Posted February 23 I'd rather she work with Sabrina than pretentious people like Arca.

Maluma had huge streaming hits pre Madonna and post Madonna. Nothing of that ribbed off on Madonna. I d guess that is because most of Madonnas fanbase hates the music he does. Madonna could have a hit collaborating with the likes of Bjork, Morcheeba, Massive Attack etc.: artists who are respected by her fanbase. Instead she decides to collaborate with acts whose music doesn't align with Madonnas best music.

I remember when it was first confirmed Madonna was collaborating with Maluma, this forum went into a frenzy and there were many many fans who were convinced she was going to have a huge smash with Maluma because of his massive proven commercial platform online. As you say it just didn’t work out that way with Madonna. When it comes to collaborations it isn’t always straight forward.

But the purpose of a collaboration between two singers, artistic considerations aside, is to increase the sales of a song. It's an attempt. Then, if the song doesn't resonate with the public or is rejected by their respective fanbases, that's another thing... But the one that matters most.
dollhouse Posted February 23 Posted February 23 ^why we want the collab to be surefire hitmaker thou? she had them what added to the song

People who listen to Maluma, or even Bad Bunny or other latin music artist didn't like Medellin at all. That why the streams didn't ribbed off on Madonna and the song was a flop. This is COADF 2 and Sabrina Carpenter is a POP artist. There will be much better sinergy between the two for sure.

Yes, and in any case the "desperate" comments are a constant that has accompanied M for decades... so let's them comment..
