ErGallo Posted January 6 Posted January 6 15 minutes ago, elijah said: its a matter of principle. No-one supported Maduro, but to accept that its ok for USA to just go into a country and arrest their leaders (even if not rightfully elected...) is so unlawful. It breaches all the articles of the UN Charter. The grounds for this according to Trump/Rubio is that Venezuela is the Western Hemisphere so USA has the right to do what it feels like it needs to do (practically all!). If that is accepted what happens with the other hemispheres? Who is entitled to just go into any given sovereign state and change its leadership, because they don't like it? Also, USA doesn't even pretend its not about the oil... Because OK today its Maduro, but what about if USA or RU or China just go into a sovereign state, a democratic one, with elected government and just change it because they don't like certain policy etc.? It goes back to the prewar period of imperalism where the strongest or stronger state just goes into another and does what it feels like. Its so wrong on so many levels, above all it contradicts international law. Yes, I understand that and you are 100% right! I’m not disputing that. Like I said! all that situation is awful. But knowing that Maduro (which ls just a puppet… there’s worst people in Venezuela still) is done! Was reason enough for me to be happy when it happened. That’s it. and that Maria Corina Machado tweet is………… disappointing…….. Quote
Je5u5 Posted January 6 Posted January 6 For venezuelans the thing is that generally everybody wanted Maduro gone and has wanted that for years, decades even. So the fact that he was gone, at last, was worth celebrating for the vast majority. How this happened and where this will lead gets of course more nuanced responses. Some have seen a couple of Hollywood movies too many and think this is about restoring democracy. Most are not as gullible and understand this is about oil and minerals as the US government has declared many times already. Most are in shock at how some are actively calling out for Maduro's release. I'm sure q big part of the population would trade all the oil reserves for having him and his gang locked for life. Many are also only now realizing that Trump has arranged for Maduro's right hand Delcy Rodriguez to stay in power for the forseable future, how Maria Corina Machado and Edmundo Gonzalez haven't been invited to the table and are being dismissed as "not having the support or respect of the people" after winning the election, are struggling to make that make sense. Some who live outside Venezuela and have done so for decades even are also shocked at how some people in those countries are already going "Yes! Maduro's gone! So when are you moving back there?". It's a complex situation for venezuelans with lots of emotional reaction that can, due to years and years of suffering, understandably mute other elements in people’s heads, and lots of concern, fear, anxiety and even hope as this is uncharted territory for the country in recent past. promise to try Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 I can understand people from venezuela being happy with maduro being out/kidnapped. I mean, the ones that are against him should enjoy thinking that he is going to suffer a little bit and that he is not going to govern them anymore. But, I´m afraid in the next years/decades they will have the same feeling with the USA and the government they decide to put in charge. what is happening now with Delsy Rodriguez is really unexpected. It´s like they don´t want anything to change in venezuela, only the direction where the oil barrels go to when they are sold. USA had the show, the headline...and they will have the oil and the money from the extraction and the bussinesses. and greenland...I don´t see european union with power to do anything, and NATO won´t do anything either. NATO will be finished, actually.Destroyed from the inside...it´s so difficult to picture this that I don´t think will happen, there´s too much money involved Quote

Raider of the lost Ark Posted January 7 Posted January 7 ^^^ The current U.S. administration is not thinking this through. Well, are they thinking at all? They never have a plan. The end of NATO will turn the USA into a regional power (The Americas) since they will lose access to the rest of the world and therefore the influence they currently have. They need Europe for their Middle East and Africa operations. They need S.Korea, Japan, Australia for Asia. In addition to that, the moment the U.S. acts this way, they will lose access to their most important markets. Governments and citizens of those countries will make the U.S. "pay". You think U.S. companies can afford to only sell to U.S. customers to survive? And then there is still U.S. debt. Massive debt. Debt that is hold in large parts by foreign nations. If all those countries decided to get rid of this debt it will mark the end of the dollar as we know it. I recommend all nations to get their gold out of the United States immediately. Germany is doing it for years now. It is alleged there have been irregularities on the U.S. side in regards to this gold and they came up with some "interesting" explanations why they handed over different gold bars. Only out of diplomacy, the German Central Bank did not investigate further. Needless to say, investigations prior to the hand over were already obstructed by U.S. authorities, when German officials were not allowed to check on "their" gold when they wanted to see it. Unfortunately there are still 1.200 tons (or 144 billion Euros) of German gold located in NY. German governments are way too trusting towards the U.S. When the shit hits the fan, do they really believe, the U.S. will release this gold? Quote
Michael. Posted January 7 Posted January 7 If the US attempts to take Greenland by force then I believe we will descend into WW3. The question then becomes who will ally themselves with the US and who will fight against them. Quote
elijah Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Hope the EU and the other non EU states like UK, Norway, Switzerland and Iceland have a plan what we are doing after Trump invades Greenland. Because he will. The Venezuela fiasco showed he will do anything to distract from Epstein files. Invading Greenland would shift the conversation for years. He will do it. Time for EU or even European army that includes the mentioned states... Quote
runa Posted January 7 Posted January 7 If they invade Greenland it means NATO won’t exist anymore. Which means nobody will say anything about it and, most of all, nobody will attack back. Why? Because no one is strong and rich enough to compete against them. Also, all our economies are linked to US. Going at war against USA is suicide and they know it. Who would like to start a war with US to protect a 50k people island?? No one. Quote
Cyber-Raga Posted January 10 Posted January 10 I just love how the Nobel Institute just keeps trolling him. Quote
Raider of the lost Ark Posted January 10 Posted January 10 What was that shitshow yesterday with all those oil executives? Just another example how stupid he is. This guy has no idea how economy works. He thought it was the biggest thing ever, and all those executives were more like "Thank you, but no, we don't want to invest in Venezuela". And why would they? It makes no sense from a business point of view. It's not their interest to provide cheap oil. And then there is this pesky thing called break even. At some point pumping oil turns into losses. At the moment it's around 44.00 USD for "normal" oil and 65.00 USD for U.S. fracking. And of course he was lying about the value of those 30 million barrel of oil. 4 billion. Who on earth is paying 4 billion when the market value is merely 1.8 billion, in fact it will be lower if they flood 30 million barrel on the market. And who are those "reporters" in the room? Is there any serious media outlet still present? It all looks like right wing podcasters, who cannot even read the questions (provided by the White House) properly. Quote
promise to try Posted January 13 Author Posted January 13 ok, maybe that´s what he is doing, acting like the president of venezuela, but to post it...this is incredible, nobody would have expected this from a president of any country 20 years ago. Quote

We should imagine the worst and he will manage to do even worse thing somehow. But the American chose him so. Quote
Raider of the lost Ark Posted January 15 Posted January 15 The whole thing is just ridiculous. They kidnapped Maduro but left his government in place. Since regime change in foreign countries is not popular with U.S. voters, because whenever the U.S. tried it, they failed miserably, Trump and Co. changed to narrative to "oil". But here is the problem: No one (at least not U.S. executives) wants that oil. So, maybe, just maybe, this is about the Nobel Peace Prize Trump did not get? Well, I believe Venezuela is merely a testing ground for Cuba, which is the ultimate goal. Quote
Raider of the lost Ark Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Am I the only one who thinks this is highly disrespectful towards the Nobel Peace Prize Commitee? But I guess, they somehow deserve it. As far as I understood, the decision for Machado was met with a lot of criticism, even before she was awarded because she is such a controversial figure. Considering this very much looks like selling out to Trump, makes me believe Venezuela will have a hard time vote for her as president. He clearly stated he wants to plunder all the oil and she is giving him a prize, a prize that is not his in the first place. Not a good look. Also, what about the approx. 1 million Euro she received in relation to the Nobel Peace Prize? Did she say, she will donate the money to some cause? Will she keep it to herself? Will she transfer the money to Trump? Quote
