I hope ricardo is no where near anything to do with the new album.

So in a way I hope not.

In fairness, Ricardo did plenty of IG photos for MX that were … fine, serviceable.

In all likelihood, Mert Alas and Marcus are probably involved with either imagery or videography or both for the album. Possibly Klein, but I think when she was with him she was posting about the stonewalling on the bio project in LA. (He may have been with her since/more recently, but … she has been having video calls with Mert, we know, so … more likely those have been work related. And she did Funeral Rites with Klein, so … we know they had a project incubating.)

And I'd say MDNA is polarizing as fuck. Hate that album.

MDNA could've been an EP

or an em-mail 🤣

I feel like at least a new photoshoot is coming because you don’t go to walk around in Central Park wearing an outfit like that.

They must be getting ready some photos or something for the booklet and promotional images.

What I found curious is that the boots look similar to the ones she wore on the Erotica segment of the Celebration Tour, which featured Hung Up.

It would be funny if that was a way of teasing her concept for a COADF 2.0 album: a mix between Erotica and Confessions 1, lol.

A new photoshoot? Whoopee.

That's pretty much all we've had for years.

We really don't need another shoot of her "disturbing the peace" that's just her in her underwear again.

it feels more like she was bored at home and said "C'mon Ricardo, grab your phone, lets go take some photos".

I know I’m confused as well why they never made a video together!

His video with Gaga was great and is actually one of my favourites by her, Alejandro (perhaps because it’s sooo Madonna).

Some of Madonna’s best work visually is with Klein they need to make a video!

Serviceable yes!

The M&M boys are great but I’d love her to work with someone new for some fresh approaches.

Funeral Rights was interesting. I mean it’s great to get narratives back into her shoots and I admire the ambition of it but the execution was samey.

Klein has done so much better but I think the styling of it felt to familiar.

I would absolutely love to her to work with a brand new director for her lead single from this new era.

Im sure many younger and up and coming directors would snap her hand off for the opportunity.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but she has used a “new to her” director for her first single *every* album cycle since 2008.

The streak would go back even longer, but LaChapelle broke it for HU when he backed out, and she had to bring in Johann Renck (who had previously directed NRM) quickly to realize her vision. But for ROL, BS … those were first-time collaborations, too.

Mert and Marcus photographed her beautifully for MDNA and RH (and their other photoshoots with her have been beautiful, as well). Klein’s album photography has been … a little less perfect, but it’s still good. I’d prefer either of them over Ricardo, of course, but I don’t think she’d actually have him shoot the photos for her own album cover — that would be a first.

It is a bit of a mystery how Klein hasn’t directed a traditional music video for her, given the number of tour video work he has done for her and very high profile photo shoots (turned gallery exhibits), commercial work (sunglasses, skincare), etc.

As for the Funeral Rites styling — I mean, you have to remember it was *still* a fashion editorial. I’m sure she had some influence, but also CR had some say in the clothing, too. It was a collab — she may have selected some looks from among a wider array, and she may have accessorized herself, but … it’s not like this was a tour video or a shoot for her IG where she’d have total creative control.

She IS wearing a sleep mask in that photo Ricardo reposted, and the Bedtime Story video opens with a display where a dream sequence is starting (ie loading) ... so could this perhaps be Bedtime Story reissue related?!

Oh absolutely and I hope she continues the that trend! 😍

Yes I hope she never uses Ricardo for something as important as album artwork, but as you say she never has thus far he just appears to be her IG filter shadow.

I understand that and I actually love much of the CR shoot I am just over the femme fatale narrative that by this point has become boring and expected.

The HU video in the end totally matched for the brief and totally suited the song. But I do often wonder what the video would have been like by the marvellous LaChappelle. 😍

The premise sounded really interesting, but maybe a little to dynamic for what she was going for with the song and imagery.

ohhh could it be!?!?

Im not sure she will not make anymore hints, even subtle ones, after what’s happened unless the EP/reissue is completely fully ready and signed off to drop.

So if it is a hint (which feels a bit of a reach but I love your thinking!!) then it must be actually ready this time.

interesting about the new directors thing. it might just be a coincidence or interscope's influence or just budgetary reasons (new directors are cheaper).

as she gets older and (presumably) more self-conscious she clearly wants more control over how she appears in photos/videos, so it makes sense that she's attached herself to one photographer like ricardo. so i wouldn't be surprised if he ends up shooting the album photos.

according to wiki, klein has only directed four proper music videos. he's done more than twice as many tour videos for madonna alone. so it's definitely a mystery...

I totally agree.

Also I think as she gets older she is more and more in control of the editing process as well due to her age.

Of course she has always been close to the end product, but it seems like she has over taken it these days.

Take God Control for instance, I’m not so sure Jonas would have approved to all those incredibly fast cuts that we know she favours now in her visual work. They were not there years ago when they did music videos together.

Her tour films have also taken on multiple filters & fast edits and I am not convinced they were chosen by the directors she worked with.

I also don’t really think it would matter which photographer she worked with nowadays either, she wants to be filtered and airbrushed heavily in professional shoots.

Even if she worked with Herb Ritts again today, I have no doubts she would be filtered perhaps against his wishes.

Just some thoughts I still think she is a dream collaborator but I do think things are different now to how they were because she wants to be presented in a specific way.

Ricardo gives her that almost on a daily basis.
