rebelheart Posted June 20, 2025 Posted June 20, 2025 I still hope it's a mostly dark album lyrically like parts of Confessions but with upbeat 90's house influenced beats throughout....

This. It can be dance, no problem, but a grittier, underground, after-hours dance club type stuff. That is what I hope for.

Yeah no ballads this time, this album really needs to be an updated Confessions part 2, also I hope she doesn't include the song Elton wrote for her unless it is totally reworked into a dance song...

I do wonder if the Elton song got recorded. Wasn't there a story about them not getting on in the studio.

Carey Posted June 22, 2025 Posted June 22, 2025 Slightly adjacent but I do wonder if the pandemic played a part in the levels of fragmentation of new releases from some of the older pop icons. Mariah's first new release is coming this year but it's been the first since 2018, Janet no where to be found. Madonna is seemingly coming but we have no clue about when. I wonder if that time where everything just stopped made that generation take stock and decide it was time to slow down? Sometimes being forced to stop makes you think. Clearly other factors have played in for M (illness, bereavement and we did get a brilliant tour) but just those days of every 2.5/3 years of getting back in the studio and getting something done seems to be gone. I guess not having the contractual obligation makes it easier. I always come back to something she said in 2019 during the MX promo: Quote In my moments of loneliness, and not having a friend which reminded me of my early days in New York, I met a few people who led me to meeting other people who introduced me to amazing musicians who invited me to parties and small bars and clubs. I was truly, truly inspired. I had no intention of recording another album, but somehow it just happened," she said. Was she actually ready to be done after Rebel Heart? At least for an extended period? Is it the case now that the baseline is that there isn't anything in the works until she "feels" it? I just always found that quote very stark and quite telling.

I guess not having the contractual obligation makes it easier. I hear you. But the lock down and coronavirus happened just after she had recorded her last album for Interscope. I do think she was going into an extended break from music anyway, it just so happened the world was locked down on the back of her finishing her contract. I think once she started to write and work on her BIO story, again, that was a natural point to do so in her life. Theres no way Madonna 20 years ago would have done that. She wouldn't have had the time for a start. I think it’s a natural product of her age, it’s a product of the fact she had recorded albums and created album eras consistently for 35 years and the fact she was enjoying new found freedom from being locked in contacts. Plus, I think she wanted to immortalise her life/career on the screen rather than add to it. I do believe after a long rest from music making, and the fact the film never happened after years of trying, that has promoted a return to the studio. I am not saying she doesn’t want or isn’t excited about creating again, but it is a direct result of the film being turned down. She went back to her day job. But if the film got the green light she wouldn’t have started an album again. Not until the movie was finished and released.

I never meant it that way. I meant I hope she gives us another hint in the next 6 weeks BEFORE August starts and she goes into her annual month off. Nothing about making an announcement on August 16th. 12 minutes ago, bardo said: his song with gaga on chromatica was upbeat/dance. It was. But Gaga would have agreed to anything as long as Elton was somewhere on her record. I highly doubt Madonna feels the same about Elton. It’s got to work. It hasn’t been her usual approach either to collaborate with fellow legends in music. But you never know…..

And even if the eventual albums connect with fans and add to these or similar women's bodies of work in that department, or even in ways concerning critical acclaim, the harsh truth is they'll each chart a week and then disappear without a trace. It must be pretty dispiriting, as frivolous as it may seem to sort of need to gamify the charts. Even if they're filthy rich, a person wants their invested time and effort to pay dividends. And why not? Michelangelo didn't paint the Sistine Chapel just for the sake of artistry.
Geiger83 Posted June 23, 2025 Posted June 23, 2025 M must be focusing completely on the Netflix series. At this point she has probably even forgotten she was working on an album. And the disappearing of Bedtime Stories as well as the lackluster Veronica Electronica are very likeky symptoms of that as well

At worst I think there could be scheduling conflicts next year if Netflix get a script together this year and go into 2026 ready for preproduction. I am hoping Netflix delay the project until 2027 OR the project drags out for 2 years before they start preproduction as Madonna will more than likely want to be involved. That way there is a clear 2 years for to finish the album off, prepare promo and release and promote it. But I fully agree with you her focus and ambition absolutely lies with Netflix and the BIO show. 10000%! The EP fiasco is just typical of the whole reissuing campaign. By this point it’s to be expected.
