Queen Elizabeth DEAD...

I guess that more than half of the planet knows her and her image wasn't bad in recent years. I think it's common sense to assume that.

There's a big difference in "people know her" / "her image wasn't bad" and hugely popular.

If she was that popular, countries from the Commonwealth would not ask to leave that monarchy. Barbados, Canada, Australia, Scotland... name it. They all want to leave.
Not what I would call hugely popular.

THAT is common sense.

She still was quite popular around the world (not hugely popular though). I think we need to separate that lady from the monarchy as a whole when it comes to popularity (and will see how that may affect the monarchy in the future)

I can’t speak for the Welsh but there were many welsh people who adored her having the title Princess of Wales when she was alive and in death. I’ve seen them talk about her many Welsh business came out and loved the fact she was Princess of their country, perhaps it was the currency boost having someone so loved be associated with the country.

Again, not everyone.

Dear Lord.

Australia held a referendum 20 years ago and choose to keep them in.

Yeah, but if you knew what you're talking about, you would also knew why they did.

And btw, just the fact there were a referendum about that question, it says a lot about her "huge popularity", isn't it ? :lmao:

So it wasn’t because they wanted the Queen to remain as their head of state?

Because that was the question the Australian people were asked at the ballot box? What’s the real story then ?

I was just commenting on an actual referendum that took place and asked the people NOT leaders of countries that want to leave the commonwealth.

You think LEADERS are commanding a referendum that people are not interested about ? That's what you say ? You think that's how politic works ?

I never said that.

Fact remains there was a referendum and the monarchy stayed. So that dictates more Australians supported it than were against it.
I never said hugely popular but that’s more popular than unpopular.

You said she was hugely popular in a previous post and I asked you where this hugely popular comes from - she might be respected by some, but to say she is internationally popular seems a little extreme to me.

In April 2022, a poll in Canada indicated that 51% of canadians wanted to cut ties with monarchy. Analysts say there would be way more people who would agree if we had not to reopen our constitution. That's a Pandora's box. Same in Australia.

That Queen might be hugely popular in your heart, as a british citizen, but clearly that's not how the rest of the World saw her.

There’s a difference between the Welsh and the Welsh Welsh i.e Welsh language speakers (like me!) from pockets of Wales deeply connected to Welsh culture and we’re certainly not pro-monarchy or enamoured by the notion of having an English Prince / Princess of Wales. I mean, we used to put stamps on upside down and burn holiday cottages 😭

I can’t remember putting hugely popular I’ve said in all of my posts there are people that don’t want the monarchy but there’s more of a positive affection here in Britain which keeps them where they are than an un affection.

I don’t doubt there’s feelings in other countries that don’t want a British head of state being there’s it is an odd thing I’m sure for some of those people but the monarchy still has support.

The fact that so many countries now are paying respects to the Queen is testimony to her legacy. There will be people in equal measure I’m sure that don’t like her or are in different but from what I have seen, what I believe, and what I have learned she is more popular than un popular.

Thats the way I see it.

She was an old lady for like two generations already. Of course people didn't become obsessed with her. But she was respected around the world and a maskot for britain and living history. So maybe respected is the better word.

oh dear….

He hasn’t appointed anybody the roles remain from when the Queen was alive.
The Queen was his mother Charles is his brother and I suspect (might be wrong) but he will want him well away from the workings of anything royal following next weeks funeral.

Monarchies are elitists and privileged white classists. How anybody could support them is beyond me.

They are indeed. But I do think today’s generation are different they happen to be born into these positions which I agree is wrong, but that’s where they come from and where they were born they don’t choose it.

That’s not to excuse the fact that nobody is born better, because nobody is.

Here in the Basque Country we used, (well, we still do it) paint with a marker parts of the clothes that we like but has red and yellow together. These two colour are not supposed to be together!

And we don´t do that with the stamps, but it´s not a bad idea...we try to avoid the word España: el estado, piel de toro...anything but españa.

Funny how all the places have similar problems

This impressed me a lot.

No matter if Harry and Meghan be part of whatever circus nowadays, truth is that this woman suffered psychologically to the point of thinking of suicide and this man had already suffered the loss of his mother just when she was in a relationship with a non white man. His words against his father, who is the king nowadays, just shows how dysfunctional that Queen and the husband were and how dysfunctional Charles is.

I respect him a lot for what he has gone through.

Sometimes I think if he does feel like the press and the cameras really traumatise him, perhaps he would of been better mentally stepping out of the spotlight when he chose to leave the royal family. But I appreciate him and Megan with Netflix and the podcasts want to retain a public position I just hope he can cope with it all.

Yes, that’s what I’m wondering too. Also if someone tries some act vandalism or something. I always think they would not put the real body there.
