jjbradleynyc
It's shameful and an embarrassment to "MTV." MTV is overall a joke anyway, these days. They are pretty much telling the world, that these are awards only to be handed out to those under 30 years old. LOL It makes me think there is a financial incentive package negotiated with the radio stations that play certain artist's music (almost always under 30), and then MTV nominating those artists for the VMAs, in turn. "Top 40" radio in 2019 really targets those listeners who are 12 to 20 years old, roughly. It's absolutely laughable that such a HUGE population segment that enjoys music is snubbed. Leaving so much $$ on the table. The music industry is truly too corporate and ageism is alive and well.

Ugly Hecty
Those nominations are embarrassing. But what's infuriating is why they invited her to the VMAs last year and did a huge premiere special for Medellin if they didn't think that Medellin, Dark Ballet, or God Control were worth nominating? Plaything
Do we even know the eligibility period? I believe it is usually until mid or late June or something, so the only M video that was snubbed here was Medellin. I don’t think they will recognise the other videos next year (sadly) but it’s a shit show anyway and after last years debacle I don’t think M should give them any attention anymore..ever

alanuk
The VMA's are boring. The best award show that I will always remember watching and in complete awe of how wild the crowd were, was the MTV EMA's 1998 in Milan. The crowd just loved her. Also, does the video need to be from an official single? Her best videos are not from singles , I think, who really knows what a single is any more... Gaudet
Even if they have had a category like for example "Best political video" or "Best video with a social message" or something similar, she would have not been nominated. Madonna is above and beyond MTV these days. VMAs are beneath real art. The glorious days of MTV are long long LONG over.

So it wouldnt have been able to nominated anyway.

LHakaLH
"Push" artist of the year? Best "For Good" video? WTF Does these categories even mean?! Priceless
I share many of the sentiments in this thread. Yes, the MTV VMAs are not important. Yes, they pander to the youth market. Yes, they're corporate and corrupt and ageist. And yet I'm still pissed off about this. Madonna (in part) MADE MTV and they've paid her absolute dust for the last 3 video cycles. It's infuriating, since she has been truly creative, daring and prolific this time - 5 original videos? (I don't count that Time video for "I Rise.") Gorgeous painterly video? Check. Avant-garde pro-trans video? Check. Trendy age-defying trap video? Check. Provocative protest disco video? Check. Historically respectful tribute video? Check. Somewhere, Madame X is rolling her eyes and saying "how ironic."
lasky
Yup, considered they are "childhood friends" growing up together... VMAS are in their 36th year and Madonna in her 36th year career... though M mentioned she doesn't care much about awards but when credit is due, they must be honoured. It's in the hands of corporate branding and what's trending and when they award Beyondsay with more awards, they were no longer legit in any way, shape or form... the continuous BS from these awards show are truly reductive! Dany Targaryen
I don't care. I'm enjoying the era. But, in terms of the feedback, it's gonna be difficult consistently by the end of this year. Year nine for Madonna.
Andgon144
Absolutely agree on with all the sentiments here. I just wish for some recognition on a large scale a la 1999 vma drag homage to M. DIRTY PIG
They still do this show 90s - early 00s this would have been a major piss take but these days it's laughable there's even a thread devoted to this tripe Whos the video vanguard award going to, Ashanti's dog walker hahahaha what a waste of everyone's time. MTV for as groundbreaking as it was is probably the most out of date media outlet going. Shame really but reality tv killed it off. RIP.
