2020 U.S. Election

It’s gonna be between Trump vs Sanders. I don’t think Trump will win by a landslide. I prefer Buttigieg against Trump, but we all know how it works. I still think the only way to defeat Trump is to be like Trump and more. Who though?

well this is disappointing, but realistic. He was out of money so couldnt continue. I hope this means he endorses Biden and becomes his VP.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Biden/Bloomberg or Buttigieg or Bloomberg/Buttigieg ticket. Out of all of them I think Bloomberg is not afraid if calling out Trump for what he is. I think Elizabeth and Bernie mean well but their policies will not fly well with the independent voters.

A gay candidate called Butt-something... maybe it was all too much?

Pete got completely shafted because of the debacle in Iowa. Had he been named the winner that evening, he would've had stronger momentum heading into New Hampshire and beyond. He ran an extremely competent and disciplined campaign. Very similar to Obamas in 08. It's such an eye roll that people were complaining that we was 'ripping Obama off' in his speeches and how he was running his campaign. I would've ripped Obama off too. BECAUSE HE WON. Twice.

Now they're all coalescing around Biden. I just can't fathom how anyone can see him as a strong general election candidate against someone like Trump. He's about as inspiring as a doorknob and has no true following outside the Dem elites. Say what you will about Bernie, but he inspires PASSION in his followers. Clearly, Dems  learned nothing from 2016. Just unconscionable that they're rallying around, basically, a male Hillary.

This is precisely the discussion I had with my spouse over supper. They learned absolutely NOTHING from the 2016 defeat. At least in 2016 they had the excuse of not having taken the threat seriously. This time, they don't have that excuse. Dems establishment imagines that Trump is just an anomaly and that politics will be able to return to what it was for the last 60 years. They will therefore still crash and we will have to suffer for the next 4 years the horrible consequences of their strategic incompetence. As if uncle Joe would be able to beat Trump. :banghead:

The relevance...and the onion (it's a joke).

Damning New Footage Shows Sanders In 1980s Arguing Madonna Could Never Make Transition From Music To Film

NEW YORK—In a video from late 1984 that was circulating online Friday and could severely damage his bid for the presidency, Bernie Sanders can be heard openly questioning whether Madonna was likely to succeed in the transition from making records to acting in major motion pictures. “Look, she’s an undeniable pop sensation with a promising string of top-20 hits to her credit, but let me tell you something: There’s no guarantee that kind of talent is going to translate to the silver screen,” Sanders, then mayor of Burlington, VT, says in a local public-access broadcast in which he clearly exhibits short-sightedness in his failure to anticipate the undeniable success the Material Girl would achieve in box-office smashes such as A League Of Their Own and Evita. “Madonna should stick to music. People love this Like A Virgin album, it’s a lot of fun to dance to, and she needs to build on its success. Taking time away from that to focus on what are sure to be small, insubstantial roles in lackluster films? That’s career suicide.” Reminded by reporters that Madonna had won acclaim for her role in Desperately Seeking Susan just a few months after his videotaped remarks, a visibly angry Sanders argued that Rosanna Arquette had carried that entire film and anyone who said otherwise didn’t know “a goddamn thing” about acting.

More like a “democrat” drumpf. They’re a lot alike in that they can’t finish a complete sentence and keep forgetting people’s names and can’t remember where they are at any given moment.

Sad that Pete dropped out but hopefully we'll see more of him in the future.

Put in my vote for Bernie today. I still believe he's polarizing to many "swing" voters but I agree with others, at this stage, he's the ONLY one of the 4 remaining that actually incites passion among his followers and that goes a long way.....as we saw in 2016. That momentum would only continue to build if he became the nom. Biden is indeed another Hillary in that, many would vote for him because they HAVE to, not because they want to and I just don't think that will cut it this time. Would be an even bigger shame if Bloomberg got the nom.....with his record, he may be Republican again by November. Don't trust him in the slightest.

I’m also going to be voting for Bernie in the Michigan primary. For the reasons that I and many others have stated - He inspires. And inspiration has been sorely lacking on the Dem side since Obama left office.

And while I don’t agree with some of his policies, I know full well a good chuck of them would NEVER pass or be completely watered down if they do. The other part of me is honestly going to vote for him out of sheer spite and revenge. I realize how petty that sounds, but I would love nothing more than a Democratic Socialist to beat Trump and watch with glee while their heads all completely explode and they meltdown into a screaming frenzy.

I’d tell all of my Trump loving family members and clients the same thing they told me:

“Don’t worry, you’ll be ok"

Couldn't agree more

Love Bernie Sanders

Passion is the only thing that's going to work and a mind that doesn't think that the US is above any other country in the world

And as for Bloomberg. Please. I don't care that he's a Democrat. Another billionaire up against a billionaire and the irony being that Trump was once a Democrats supporter and a friend of the Clintons

It's just fucked up that in a country of 300m people it's always the same close-knit circle of wealthy people only (or supported by extremely wealthy people, big companies or organisations) to have the opportunity to aspire to the presidency in the first place.

Bizarre, wrong and undemocratic as it can get. A system which is rotten at the roots

Go Bernie.  Someone who has passion and wants true change.  Also,  I think he would scare Trump. He won't take a back step and could easily expose Trump's stupidity, lies and hypocrisy.   A true complete alternative - in ideology and policies.  With the shocking trend to the far Right going on in the world,  if Bernie gets in - it would be a welcome and wonderful move in the opposite direction.

Biden is the only one with a real chance here against Trump. I’m not going to kid myself though obvious Trump will be re-elected no matter who he faces.

Warren and Bloomberg will be next to drop out. Warren lost her own state of Massachusetts and Bloomberg has no chance now. Let Biden and Bernie fight it out now.

Sanders all the way

Biden is just another meek puppet. And a continuation of the absolutely dreadful American foreign policy that we have seen in the past 20 years

I don't think Biden OR Bernie bode well for Democrats' luck in November. God, I hope I am wrong.

This is not an attack on Bernie as I would happily vote for him in the general election, but his voter turnout thus far in 2020 has been less than his 2016 showing and his supporters have even more reason this time to rally. But they're not. He can fill stadiums but not ballot boxes, even among young voters: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2020/03/04/super-tuesday-bernie-sanders-youth-votes-fell-short-compared-2016/4947795002/

  • Even Sanders’ home state of Vermont showed a lackluster turnout of young millennials and 'Gen Zers.' Only 10% of the state’s electorate were under 30 compared to 15% when he ran against Clinton, according to exit polls. And a similar trend was playing out in Texas where 16% of voters were between 17 and 29 compared to 20% in 2016. The common theme in all six states: Sanders fared worse this year than he did when he faced eventual nominee Hillary Clinton four years ago.

I refuse to say that Trump is a shoe-in for re-election, and I hope people rally around Biden if he's the nominee, but this really does not look good.

You can’t shoot yourself in the foot and expect to walk fine.

The Democratic party  will get what it deserves.

Yes, you are completely right but it is unfortunately the moderate or liberal US citizens (and collaterally the population of the world) who will live the disastrous consequences for 4 more years. Trump has already caused irreparable damage to the democratic system, system that has already been sick for several years. I hardly dare imagine the state of global democratic regimes in 4 years. This reality is much more dangerous and worrying than the coronavirus but unfortunately people don’t care. It is much easier to lock yourself up in mass hysteria about the end of the world prophecy of the moment (Y2K, 2012, SARS, coronavirus) than investing time and energy in better understanding geopolitical issues and their consequences for the common good.
