I like the idea, in theory, that you can dive in and take from it what you like, but I'm a bit of a purist and I struggle with that trimming of "fat," not that there's anything on there I'd really do without. It's all good (to great) enough, but there's really no listening to it as a body of work because of how sprawling and expansive it is. Still bemused by the idea that it could even be compared, by virtue of their both being studio albums, to something like the Madonna record that clocks in at just eight tracks.

Of course, the weirdness of its release does add dimension to her discography. It's an interesting project.

Posted this in another thread, but I thought it was more suitable here:

I *love* the concept behind Rebel Heart and think the songs have potential but it's execution was just so....blah. The mastering is nothing short of awful on most songs, she clearly changed some of the production last minute due to demo leaks, and it comes off as a chaotic mess of a track list.

If there was ever an album for her to revisit and perhaps even consider re-recording with new production, it would be this one.

Once Madame X came out, I felt like I finally "got it" with Rebel Heart. I fully believe the former is what she was trying to achieve with the latter, and it just never made it there due to deadline pressures post-leak. Same with the tour, which felt like a last minute hashed together cliche of a Madonna concert.

I see Madame X as having a lot more sophisticated versions of Rebel Heart songs:

  • Living for Love --> I Don't Search I Find
  • Body Shop --> Come Alive
  • Bitch I'm Madonna --> Bitch I'm Loca (I despise the former, love the latter, and think it's the production that destroys the former)
  • Joan of Arc --> I Rise
  • Inside Out --> Crave

Songs like Holy Water, Inside Out, and Best Night have *so* much potential, but the mastering is so bad that I rarely listen to them as they sound like low quality demos.

I hope that someday she takes some time to revisit this album and era. It deserves it.

I made my own 14 track RH out of demos and album versions and called it a day. The first half includes the more rebellious songs, the second half consists of the more romantic songs and in the middle I placed Avicii Heart.

I never understood it, his work was ok at best, it's like (as usual) once someones dies, they get god-like qualities and every so-so piece of work gets revered ad infinitum as the best in the field

No this happened before, almost immediately after the albums official release

I saw this in the MX forum.

The AVICII DEMOS as well as the MX bonus tracks are available on spotify now!!!

Look for MadonnaPlus podcast.  It has all the songs available to listen to.  You can't transfer them to a playlist, but much easier than using youtube.

I know someone was wanting to hear the borrowed time demo, can't remember which thread

Yeah, I posted this on the Ciao Bella thread a few weeks ago.

If only we knew what was in store for us with Madame X! :headbang::tigger: She just keeps elevating her craft.

Haven't been online for a while - just saw this alert. Absolutely yes. MX is one of her best ever, and it's ageing like a fine wine.

All Madonna albums are amazing, but I am particularly a huge 21st century Madonna fan. With an exception of Ray of Light, which was released in 1998, I mostly listen to albums released in this century. Sorry, but that's just my personal musical taste. And every time I create a new Madonna playlist, it's mostly from Ray of Light to Madame X. And I always find myself adding a bunch of songs from Rebel Heart, because they are so current and fresh and are fun to listen to. Songs like Living for Love, Devil Pray, Ghosttown, Hold Tight, Inside Out, Best Night, Messiah, and even Rebel Heart, in my opinion are ultimate masterpieces! Any Madonna album that can deliver at least 8 incredible tracks is a masterpiece, and Rebel Heart is one of those albums.
