i think its the two ends of the spectrum.

Nobody in pop emotes like her. None of them do sad quite like her.

Yet her care free dance music is equally emotive. into the groove. holiday. express yourself. these songs have the same level of emotional impact as the sad ones imo.

she was not built to do MOR.

I think she is the one artist who can do sad ballads and carefree joyful songs equally as well. What makes her such an incredible singer.  I adore her sad ballads and the Something to Remember album demonstrates how beautifully and authentically she shows emotion and sadness through her music.  Her ballads are second to none.

The other side to the coin is songs such as Holiday, Into the Groove, Cherish, Vogue to name but a few.  Does euphoric, joyful music and anthems to perfection as well.  Such a wonderful gift for creating and singing timeless music that people feel and love.

I think sad songs are the best songs... The thing I love most about Madonna is how most things she does or sings about is autobiographical so it's like a window into her soul, into her mindset. We can feel her innermost feelings as the words wash over us and there is just so much depth. The amount of times her ballads have actually made me cry because on some level I can just relate so much and that is the true magic of our Queen... We can all relate to her in some way.

YES! Agreed.

Live To Tell is her best song of all her career, a pure classic!

No other Pop singer conveys such emotion through her voice like Madonna.

Its other worldy... there's mysticism in her ballads.

Promise To Try

Oh Father

Rain

Love Tried To Welcome Me

ABSOLUTELY NOT  but I see why you'd say that.

Her ballads/ down-tempo tracks are always gorgeous & emotional: I Want You, THE POWER OF GOODBYE, Oh Father, LDLHA

Always been aa very big fan of Madonna’s ballads even though never been into other pop artists ballads.

I actually really appreciate some of the ballads & more down tempo tracks on both MDNA & RH. Think they’re mostly high quality & add to her discography.

The reason Madonna is so successful is because she's more than just one thing. She's widely known as a "dance artist," but her sad songs and ballads are the reason so many people have connected with her and her music so deeply. And I've said this before - MOST of her hits are midtempo or slow, not dance song (even though she has many of those too).

Drowned World/Substitute for Love is one of her best songs ever....  Love Tried to Welcome Me is gorgeous and Messiah....  mmmmmmmm hmmmmmm....  I would love a 2 disc version of Something to Remember.... I "could pack a lunch and spend a while there". -Prince
