Was 2003 Vmas kiss a highlight in M's career or not?

Why are the majority of people here trying to downplay this moment as if it was a just another normal day for Madonna? Saying this "I don't like Britney etc" like your opinion doesn't matter on this lmao. Ask any random person to name something memorable Madonna has done and you'll get this answer more than plenty of times. Fuck outta here!!!!

Well, I like Britney a lot but still don't see it as a highlight of Madonna's career. Sure it was a highlight in pop culture but Madonna is the biggest selling female artist of all time and her music and performances are what makes her career. Not trying to downplay the reaction it received worldwide but I think everything Madonna has achieved as an artist, leaves the Britney kiss way behind.

Are you guys kidding? It may not have been connected to a hit song or video, and it may have been total sensationalism, but the image still packs a punch 12 years later. It's a huge highlight in Madonna's career at least when it comes to performances. And defined another era of the VMAs. It was huge.

Did it change Madonna's career? Did it help it? Would her career be different if it didn't happened? I would say no.

Sure, she got major headlines and yes, it IS an ICONIC moment in pop culture history. And yes, the timing was perfect and another perfect example of her alliance to the LGBT cause. But I don't think it's a highlight in M's CAREER, sorry.

A highlight for me would be the 84 VMA, LAP, Erotica, Evita, ROL, etc, etc. Those definitive moments that have chenged the course of her career and even pop music...

These are my thoughts.

This was a huge highlight in my life. I was in HS and the music scene was fucking SHIT around that time and it was around that time when gay marriage (most people were against it) was on everyone's lips. Seeing Madonna up there looking like an androgynous woman groom, singing about being bored with music and then gay marrying Britney and Xtina and making out with them on LIVE TV, then having Mista Elliot come out and rap, dressed as a man, gave me life! Everyone knew I was a Madonna fan so the next day I walked up into school and absolutely EVERYONE was like WTF WAS THAT? :lmao:

Me too!Actually the whole American Life period was a huge highlight,I was 16 when it happened and remember friends at school asking what I thought of it lol

Always being the only M fan among my friends (everyone else was either following J.Lo,Ashanti,Destinys Child,Brit/Xtina)it was the first time I could remember in my early Madonna fan years that she was major front line news level with these new and young performers

And I was obsessed with the Oprah interview, most people now would say its one of her most dull but I loved it

I recall reading something in a magazine about two girls in a middle school getting in trouble because they were charging boys $ in the lunch room to watch them make out. The business enterprise was inspired by the Madonna/Britney kiss.

no. It was embarrassing how much the media jumped over it, showing how prude they were. Why would two women locking lips be so scandalous? I didn't get it then.

It wasn't a highlight for me. The highlight for me in that era was getting the album American Life.

100% agree! AMEN!
