Just commenting on other thread about the line "Baby Jesus on the stairs". I don't listen to MDNA much, I admit. Maybe because it was released in a shit time for me and most messages were painful too, i guess i have to revisit that album because it has so great songs, like Best Friend, which I love, and the always acclaimed Beautiful Killer, Love Spent, Falling Free...

But my fav lyrics always were I Don't Give A... they summ up the chaos and the anxiety of the new life after the dissaster and how you got to cope with so many things and how Madonna had to gather all the strenghts to "multitask".

So many messages! Genious! And Minaj lyrics so incredibly stupid.

Appreciate!

[Verse 1: Madonna]
Wake up, ex-wife
This is your life
Children on your own
Turning on the telephone
Messages, manager
No time for a manicure
Working out, shake my ass
I know how to multitask
Connecting to the Wi-Fi
Went from nerd to superb
Have you seen the new guy?
I forgot the password
Gotta call the babysitter
Tweetin' on the elevator
I could take a helicopter
I don't even feel the pressure
[Hook: Madonna]
I'm gonna be okay
I don't care what the people say
I'm gonna be alright
Gonna live fast and I'm gonna live right
I'm moving fast, can you follow my track?
I'm moving fast and I like it like that
I do ten things all at once
If you have a problem, I don't give a...
[Verse 2: Madonna]
You're so mad at me
Who's got custody?
Lawyers, suck it up
Didn't have a pre-nup
Make a film, write a song
Gotta get my stockings on
Meet the press, buy the dress
All of this to impress!
RIde my horse, break some bones
Take it down a semitone
I forgot to say my prayers
"Baby Jesus" on the stairs
Gotta sign a contract
Gotta get my money back
All the bottles, all of those (??)
Standing in the front row
[Hook]
[bridge: Madonna]
I tried to be a good girl
I tried to be your wife
Diminished myself and swallowed my life
I tried to become all
That you expect of me
And if it was a failure
I don't give a...
(I don't give a, I-I-I don't
I don't give a, I-I-I don't
I don't give a, I-I-I don't
I don't give a...)
[bridge 2: Nicki Minaj]
Shots fire, anything you hear Nicki on, that's fire
You don't hear them bums on nothing? That's fire
Tell 'em "catch fire!", in the Bugatti; ten grand, one tire
Ayo Madonna (yes, Nicki?), maybe I say you original: Don Dada
In that, yeah, Gabbana, and the, ah, yeah! Prada
We "Material Girls": ain't nobody hotter, *pops collar*
See, I really can't relate to your Volvo
And you can't get these shoes at the Aldo
When I let a dude go, that's his loss,I was cutting them checks, I was his boss!
Yo, I don't give a F you, curse nor bless you, never let them stress you
I ain't a businesswoman, I'm a business, woman!
And I'm known for giving bitches the business, woman
[Hook]
[Outro: Nicki Minaj]
There's only one queen... and that's Madonna
Bitch!

Yaasss! One of my favs off MDNA <3 Not gonna lie I had trouble understanding a bit of the lyrics. Ex. "Standing in the front row" I kept hearing "Standing in the front lawn" for the longest time until now having read the actual lyrics. Lol. I know like wtf. Never really went through the trouble to google the lyrics. Also, the "Baby Jesus" line has always left like, huh? What does that even mean?? And I always thought it was "Baby Jesus up the stairs". Anyway, great post divorce, fuck you song! Only Madonna :D

yeah they're good lyrics, the way the lines are short, compact and describe the robotic like behavior you can get sucked in when you don't want to face your feelings, I think it expresses that quite well. But the rap though...

The rap is shit.

The bridge, once again, is so great, it's as if she sits down for a minute, in the middle of all that chaos, and says the real truth behind all those activities that keep her mind busy.

Suddnely, in a momento of rest, she explains why everything is a chaos and why she's keeping up.

Madonna should have done the rap herself instead of the Nekki. At least it would have been relevant to the song...

I am in the group that now believes the original lyric was "baby Jesus understands." I think Madonna went with "baby Jesus on the stairs" when asked in reddit I think? I could see Madonna allowing people to think something different for her own amusement. I originally heard the lyric as baby Jesus on the stairs but when I listen now it sounds different.

As far as the song...you have to detach yourself and accumulate as much as you can to actually say these words and mean them. If you don't people hold you hostage.

I love this song. I wish it had been around during my divorce.

After all the bullshit, the fighting, the resentment, the agonizing routine...

You just say to yourself, "I don't give a Fuck!"

From the AMA Reddit Chat:

Q: RoseLizenberg: In the song "I Dont Give A" are the lyrics "baby Jesus on the stairs..." or is it "baby Jesus understands"?? Please settle this bet for me. I love you.

A: _Madonna: Baby jesus on the stairs

LOVE this song. One of the highlights of the album and tour.

Love the lyrics, love the production, love the rap.

And y'all are forgetting the best line - "There's only one queen...and that's Madonna. BITCH!"
