Jazzy Jan Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Madonna has always done great interviews with Richard Wilkins which is somewhat surprising because he can be very bland with other celebrities. I think it is now safe to say that she really is keen to embrace Australia again. I know others don't agree, but I am sure the backlash from backing out of the MDNA tour after saying she would come here, would have woken her up a bit re Australia. Before people say she does not care, I think she most likely does. She was the biggest and most popular music star in Australia for years on end. I am sure she would want to capture that back and I think she will do it big time with this era.
spotlight Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 HAPPY Australia day mates xoxoxoxoxox God save the queen
ITG Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Thanks, lol! Today Show next week has Richard Wilkins interviewing Madonna! Yay!!!!
ITG Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Ugh I need this interview NOW!!!I know! What if she says 'when I start my tour, I'm going to start it in Australia & no more excuses, im coming down under' I think I'd be coming down under too if she says that. .....I can dream
VeronicaElectronica Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 I know! What if she says 'when I start my tour, I'm going to start it in Australia & no more excuses, im coming down under' I think I'd be coming down under too if she says that. .....I can dream Something along the lines of this... A giant Qantas plane rolls out during the interview and Madonna screaming "WE ARE ARE GOIINNNG TO AUSTRALIAAAAA"
Guest bluejean Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 If she opens the tour in Australia I will DIE. Whatever city its in I will be there. Even if its Perth
GregVsMatt Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Yes I've been saving for years now - I will do every Australian show and London and maybe Paris - 21+ years of waiting is over as I know she won't let London and Paris down
Carta Posted January 26, 2015 Author Posted January 26, 2015 Yes I've been saving for years now - I will do every Australian show and London and maybe Paris - 21+ years of waiting is over as I know she won't let London and Paris down I always hoped I'd get to see all of her Australian shows (except maybe Perth), but the only way I could ever possibly do that is if she toured in December or January. Oh to be in a job that doesn't have hard and fast, absolutely non-negotiable holidays!
GregVsMatt Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Two words - "sick leave" - you could have a "mental health issue" which to get a medical certificate, you just see a doctor and explain you are a teacher and are overwhelmed, stressed, anxious and struggle to eat and sleep and bam! Certifcate. You can still openly go to the tour as you can argue that on medical advice, you're encouraged to engage with friends and be social. Plan B is fly in, fly out - eg fly Gold Coast to Melbourne in the afternoon and then back again at 5am - that's what I will do if I have to - who needs sleep lol
Carta Posted January 26, 2015 Author Posted January 26, 2015 Not that easy, unfortunately! I'm Head of Department, have Year 12 classes preparing for their final assessment in October and I'm also involved in moderation of assessment materials for the entire state. We'll see what happens, but it's a bit hard to take a sickie with a clear conscience when people are relying on you.... I hope everyone else gets to see as many shows as they want to, though!!! I certainly can't complain, given the shows I've been lucky enough to see since 2006.
VeronicaElectronica Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 With year 12 classes it would be difficult, especially if tickets go up around trials. I'm in a similar situation with my first year of university during the day and with little money since I didn't have a job while doing year 12 + HSC exams last year. Even if I don't get tickets (or far away seats), Madonna just being in Australia would fulfill my excitement beyond belief.
Guest bluejean Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Carta, just go and see her on school holidays in whatever country she's in
San Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Carta, you have long service leave surely? I've got 3 months after 10 years service. My sister is a head teacher and got hers before that. And if need be there is a way for teachers to take sick days for instances like these...you let someone know beforehand and all is good. No need to lie. It's just a day for practically a once in a lifetime situation. Our unions fought hard for these freedoms

Just being at a Madonna concert was amazing!!!!
Guest Rachelle of London Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Oh Carta! I hope the tour schedule works out for you!!

It's just a day for practically a once in a lifetime situation. Our unions fought hard for these freedoms We have to book LSL a year in advance, so even though I have months up my sleeve, I can't use any of it now until 2016.... I know there are ways around all of this, but my conscience wouldn't allow me to "abandon" my Year 12s so close to their final exams. I'll just see as many shows as I can As for travelling during the school holidays, I'll definitely see where she is in December and plan to go (September's out due to assessment and marking....so much for teachers having easy lives, hey?!) . I only get one Christmas holiday period at home every three years, so it's lucky it's coincided with Madonna's tour
Carta Posted January 26, 2015 Author Posted January 26, 2015 Oh Carta! I hope the tour schedule works out for you!! Thanks, Chelle!! I absolutely can't complain, though - as long as I get to see her once (which, if she comes to Brisbane, I definitely will), I'll be satisfied I've been spoilt in the past and just want more
Stephen Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 omg jazzy I saw that M is doing an aussie interview!!!!
Jazzy Jan Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 omg jazzy I saw that M is doing an aussie interview!!!! Yes, it will be on Today ( morning show ) Richard Wilkins flew to New York to interview her. Can't wait to see it.
Jazzy Jan Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Haha yay! I thought of you instantly!! Thanks Stephen. Same as I always think of you when I hear the word "Baltimore" and how I now say Som Smeet instead of Sam Smith since you christened him that. .

VeronicaElectronica Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 The more I think about it, the more perplexed I become that Madonna has never really capitalised on her success in Australia. Even up to the Hard Candy era, it was one of her strongest markets. In the 90's she had more #1 albums in Australia than any other market. #1 - I'm Breathless#1 - The Immaculate Collection #1 - Erotica #1 - Bedtime Stories (only country where it topped the charts) #1 - Something to Remember #1 - Ray of Light Though in a weird way, I find it kind of amusing that she was so successful here and yet her reaction was: BYE FELICIA! haha

Paul Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Is anyone else here from Perth? None of my mates are into Madonna and as I don't want to spin the record for the first time by myself, I'd love to do a little listening party and have a few drinks, talk about all things M related and make the day really special. I have an absolutely massive Madonna memorablia collection and would love to check out everyone else's, maybe trade a few items even. Thanks guys Ryan Well, really, why don't you move from Perth to a real city! Im the same - all my friends either do not like Madonna or just are casual fans. Nobody i can really hang out with to just play the music and talk about the years. Im a bit worried that if she tours that none of my friends would pay $$ to be up front, if they go at all they would only pay the cheap seats. And they certaintly wouldn't get there early. I guess I'll just go by myself.
