Never saw the remake from a few years back. Was it any good ? Still think Madonna would have been incredible as Ariel, especially if she had that wild hair like Susan in Desperately seeking Susan. Her look in the 80's was divine, sexy and spirited. I know I said it before in this thread but the total mis-casting of Lori Singer spoilt the movie a bit. I saw it with my mother and I remember us laughing at how she still seemed like conservative Julie - the cellist from Fame, rather than a wild child in a conservative town trying to rebel.
