Is Madonna the most disrespected legend?

Honestly guys, i just read some articles bashing her AGAIN with the typical crap (her age, "immature" music,...) and i came to the conclusion that she's probably the less respected music legend. ALL the others big legends are constantly being praised sometimes for their past work alone. Not Madonna, she apparently constantly need to prove herself even after a 30 years old career. People still try to say she's "talentless and hit it big only because of her ass".

The medias are constantly calling her a "flop" even if she's still one of the most relevant and best selling artists of the 80's right now. People bash her for her age and the fact that she's doing EDM but i have yet to see someone like Cher (also doing EDM music and way older than Madonna) getting the same treatment (not that she deserves it but i HATE double standards).

And of course let's not forget how the medias try to sell Gaga as a "new and better" Madonna, some even saying she already surpassed Madonna somehow. It seems that the medias just can't praise Gaga without also bashing Madonna in a way or another. I mean i just don't understand how a pop girl only 5 years into her career (and already declining) can be so much more respected than the Queen of Pop herself.

What's your opinion about it guys? Is Madonna the less respected music legend? Discuss.

Your answer: she's hated by the media cuz she's not kissing their asses like the others artist or legends.

its always when they hate AND (more importantly) just *stop talking about you* when they really, truly dont give 1/8 of a turd anymore. At 55+ yrs old they STILL talk about and bash the old whore more than ever LOL. Yep, she's def. gets the same media attention and buzz (for anything..negative or positive) as much as Debbie Harry, Cyndi Lauper, Tina Turner, Chris Hydne, Paula Abdul, Diana Ross and even the little troll (Prince lmao) etc etc,,Point clearly made ;8D

MJ was bashed way more than Madonna and people only kissed his ass after he died. I mean at least Madonna's only nickname the press gave her is Madge. Unlike Michael who was crowned Wacko Jacko by just about every publication out there.

Sure Michael was nuts with a lot of the shit he did and it was a given that he would be called out on his weird behavior, and Madonna does get called out and bashed for silly shit, but at least when people in the press hate on her you know it still comes from a place where they are threatened by her, and deep down you know they take her seriously. Unlike MJ who really was seen as a total joke and laughing stock.

^ My Stepdad actually called MJ a 'FAGGOT' on the eve of his death. :rotfl::manson::shock::chuckle:

They were showing a clip of him performing w/ James brown in some tight, baby-blue, glittery pants. Needless to say, THE VERY NEXT DAY he was all like '...wow. Gone too soon! What a legacy he'll leave behind.' -OH PLEASE.

There were tons of crack jokes on the web when Whitney died also. Whether you like an artist or not bashing someone when they just died is disrespectful and inhumane as hell unless they were some evil ass nut.

You know people online will be bashing the hell out of Madonna also when she passes. The thought makes me sick, but sadly its the world we live in.

It's true that Michael Jackson's media bash was insane, but I feel that his work was respected. He was a target but they still praised his music. I feel that when talking about Madonna, they bash her so they don't talk about her music. It's just the feeling I have and that doesn't mean I'm right. Michael Jackson stopped for a long period of time while Madonna has always worked. This seems to stir up all this hate.

Exactly. People may have bashed Michael Jackson for his personal life but they always even when he was alive, praised his talent as a singer, songwriter and dancer. With Madonna, the press always says she has no talent and is just good at business and marketing herself.

Its weird also though. I have known a handful of people that cringe at Madonna's name being dropped, yet if I am around them when one of her old school jams comes on they start singing and bopping around.

Aside from that I have a habit of breaking out into Madonna songs when certain words are dropped....So the other day I asked one of my co-workers (who is 22 and swears she hates Madonna) for the key to open the closet, and like a reflex the words "key" and "open" caused me to break out into Open Your Heart, so I sang, "Open your heart tooo meeee!" and without missing a beat she starts shaking her butt and goes, "Baaaaby!".

I was like, ahhhhh. Not such a hater now are you?

Also reminds me of Madonna's Behind the Music when they are interviewing Harvey Weinstein and he says he feels that when people criticize Madonna they aren't criticizing her music because he feels most people love her music. They are criticizing her lifestyle.

What's there about Madonna's lifestyle to criticize? She doesn't use drugs or drink excessively, she's never been arrested and shes'an amazing Mom. You can't really criticize that. People may praise her songs, but they always claim she didn't write them and she can't sing.

What's there about Madonna's lifestyle to criticize?

The fact that she is such a strong woman in total charge of her career and is free and fearless and it irritates people and makes them jealous, but they cant admit to that so they resort to personal insults like saying she is old, or she got to where she is not because of being a hard ass working creative woman, but because she is just good at marketing herself.

But that's not her lifestyle choices. That's who she is a person. One thing I admire about her is I think morally in her life she makes the right choices, she takes care of her children and doesn't do illegal things.

I've also noticed some people who can't seem to get over her sexual image. Back in the day it was just because she was sexual, now it's because she's "old" and still doesn't mind pulling out a boob once in a while.

And I'm pretty sure that many of these people that criticize her from jealousy aren't even aware of that jealousy, it just comes unconsciously.

I think so too. Some people pretend not to care but they seem so BITTER when they talk about her. Every Madonna hater i encoutered was SO far into their hate to the point of being totally delusional. Some of them weren't even able to tell me WHY they hated her, apparently the simple thought of her was enough to annoy them. Some people are just so weird :manson:

Madonna is fully underrated by the general public. She has the admiration of the another pop artists, but people do not know anything about his career, and his musical legacy. People ignore that she is the only icon that remains active from the decade of 80, and releasing albums every so often and always reinventing herself. What I most appreciate about Madonna is her ability to work and sacrifice

I know a lot of people have an instant prejudice against Madonna because they blame her for making pornography and over-sexualisation much more mainstream. I had someone I know who hates Madonna making these sorts of negative comments about her on my facebook page quite recently when I posted her Art for Freedom video. This guy completely ignored and derided the message she is trying to put across simply because he feels that she is largely responsible for porn and the over-sexualisation of people in the media (he cited Miley Cyrus as an example). I think the theme of sex and sexuality throughout everything Madonna does is partly what makes a lot of frigid people lose respect for her or any of the meaningful messages she is trying to put across.

I understand what you are trying to say. Madonna opened the door to all other female singers, but Madonna isn't responsible for other stupid bitches. Madonna was sexually provocative, but Madonna also made great music. That's is what sets her apart from other girls who make generic and souless music and show their bodies.

I feel arrogant saying this, but some people are simply too stupid to "get" Madonna. They take everything she does at face value without seeing (or trying to see) her message or understanding her irony. More often than not, Madonna's tongue is planted firmly in cheek and people STILL, 30 years later don't seem to understand that.

If anything, it's Britney who's mainly responsible for it.

Heavens yes, The amount of people that don't get her sense of humour as well is startling.. It really amazes me at times to see people get offended at things that are so obviously tongue in cheek or straight-out dry humour.

I don't know how anyone can watch this and not be blown away by what Madonna has given the world of pop music. And though this is one of my favorite Madonna mixes, it only scratches the surface of what she has given leaving out most of her fantastic ballads along with a laundry list of other classic Madonna dance hits. No one else comes close.

YES SHE IS. And not only from the press but also from the recording industry. How is it possible that 30 years into her career we do not have decent remasters of her work??? Whereas artists like Pink Floyd get remasters of their entire discography every 2 years

Perhaps because she's not "rock," that could be why some see what they read from time to time as "disrespect." She's been pretty well ACCLAIMED, especially when male acts dominate such things.

No other legend has been as controversial or pushed the boundaries, challenged and provoked like Madge, so that could be another reason.

What really sets her apart is how she is not being manipulated into expressing her sexuality. She commands it herself and she does it for her self. We're paying to watch her live out her fantasies. Most of the others are being paid to let us watch them perform our fantasies. That's why Madonna equally pleases and upsets people. She also doesn't put sexuality in places where it doesn't belong. She's proud of her body and not afraid to show it off but she's also not as obsessed with sex as people might think.
