I don't think Madonna expected much fanfarre about the short film, she got what she wanted: to pave the way to develope further that idea. I wonder now what else is coming, i love this new Madonna a lot!

This is Madonna I love! Conceptual, critical, artistic, provocative. Who cares about media. They don't like her and that's the fact.

As do I. I love provocative and thought provoking Madonna. I think most in the media do respect her now but of course crazy, right wing nuts think she's a "sinner" so they dislike her. I doubt she cares. I don't think she's trying to impress them or anyone else tbh, Madonna has gotten much worse criticism than this. MUCH worse. This is nothing for her.

I just love that she stands by her beliefs and convictions. Unfortunately for all the ageists and sexists, Madonna is gonna continue to do whatever the hell she wants. I love that about her. She doesn't compromise who she is as a person or artist-ever.

I love everything about this project period! GO QUEEN OF LIFE!

Its just amazing that the top earning celeb of 2013 is being told to retire. Especially by some bimbo on Fox News.

Honestly, if Fox News said anything good about her, I would worry. I am actually surprised they didn't when she said "guns don't kill people, people kill people."

Oh Fox News, Leni Riefenstahl would be so proud of you.

:chuckle:

That's exactly the reason why she's being told that

Especially by Fox News of course

Not to mention Top earning FEMALE celeb of 2013, who's always going against everything Fox stands for...you know like, equal rights and freedom! Lol

I agree and I'm glad they didn't say anything about that. It's definitely a phrase used by many who's main focus is to protect their guns. It threw me and I am 100% for gun control but I believe that Madonna said it because she's more interested in changing minds which creates REAL change. Here's me wanting Madonna again to explain what she meant so that everyone gets her meaning. I knew what she meant by it and I'm actually grateful that Fox news most likely knew what she meant by it so it didn't turn into this huge controversy. It wasn't said to protect guns. There are two ways of taking in that phrase although I will not be using it. Both sides need to be concerned with the why people kill people and what can be done about it. When you think about it both sides seem to think there is nothing you can do about it. Madonna has always been about changing minds and questioning why?

I did not enter any of the Secret Project threads, so i had no expectations (or slight idea what it was even about). I watched the video last night & I'm still recovering... Its life changing. It's world shaking. It's literally everything.

Love her perspective on our society slowly moving backwards. She definitely put into words & re-affirmed A LOT if what I've been saying to friends, co workers, etc. I've always had to explain/ justify my life choices to people that don't see Art (of any kind) as essential. WTF? As if being an artist is synonymous with entertainment. It's a crucial part if culture, just as important as any profession

Absolutely what I think about it. There's a great obsession with things being commercially viable and artistic vision or freedom of expression is thrown out the window. We live in a very materialistic society and artists that don't make loads of money are deemed pointless. Which discourages artistic expression in general.

That's one of the big differences between Madonna and the pop artists of today. Although she may have made herself and her work into a product and be regarded a great business woman she also lived as a struggling artist for years and associated with some of the artistic greats of her time. She comes from that world of real artistry. Most pop stars really don't. She has always had that hunger to express herself and to change the world.

I agree with all you guys though regarding the media's reception - the level of criticism she has to take now for any move she does is reaching a scale practically no other current star has to endure. It's truly sad, it's nearing the scale of the media's hunt against MJ before his death. The secret project is one of the most ambitious projects she's done in recent times for sure, but unfortunately, I believe nothing will stop the media from bashing her.

Anthony Kiedis joins Madonna's ArtForFreedom/Secret Project!
Madonna Announces #ArtForFreedom Grants Program with Athony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers

Madonna has announced a grants program in coordination with Art For Freedom, the global digital initiative designed to fuel free speech, to address, respond and protest persecution around the world.

Madonna kicked off Art For Freedom on September 24, 2013 by posting Secretprojectrevolution, a 17-minute video she created with Steven Klein. The film – ‘a call to action’ – originally premiered on Vice and remains downloadable on Bit *******. Artists are encouraged to submit their own work on artforfreedom.com in the form of video, music, poetry or photography to express their personal meaning of freedom and revolution.

As part of the Art For Freedom initiative, Madonna has launched a grants program to support individuals and organizations working to advance social justice. Over the course of the next year she will select one artist each month whose creative expression helps fight oppression, intolerance and complacency. Madonna will award $10,000 to a nonprofit organization or project of the winning artist’s choice. All projects must be focused on a social justice issue and exemplify the values of Art For Freedom.

Madonna will select the winning submission each month with the help of a guest curator beginning with Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Madonna commented…

I want to help give a creative voice to those who have been silenced and denied their human rights. Art for Freedom is a platform that gives artists a chance to define freedom through their art. We have already received many incredible submissions. I am inviting all people to express their thoughts on the subject of freedom whether it’s describing specific persecution they have experienced, sharing how their rights have been violated and / or sharing their ideas creatively regarding fighting injustice.

Art For Freedom, launched in partnership with Vice, received over 1000 submissions in the first 48 hours of its inception. These submissions and the ones that follow will become part of the Art For Freedom platform and will be eligible for the Arts For Freedom grants program. Contributors can join the project by uploading original artwork at www.artforfreedom.com or tagging original posts #artforfreedom.

revolution?... come on...

post-6769-aint-nobody-got-time-for-that-

nobody got time for art in general, but it's with action like this that you may change some point of view, make people think, even if it's only 100 or 1000 people, only for 10 or 20 mn, each person count. By the end, art is more important than you think: architecture, painting, movies, scultptures, books... these are things that remain from our passage on earth ;)

If you spent half the time you do looking at porn doing something useful instead you'd start a revolution on your own.

Art came before politics.

Art came before economics.

Art was the first global tool of communication.

Enough said.

Exactly!

The two new videos (in Toronto and Berlin) really choked me up. What the guy said about it being in a city, where we are all too busy to care, was brilliant. Being from NYC and all.

Personally, I didn't really care for the film. But I loved the performance and the VICE interview. If she had combined those two things for her film instead of what we got, I'd be really pleased. Unfortunately, I was left cold with what we got.

On artforfreedom.com it says: Express your personal definition of freedom and revolution in the form of video, music, poetry, or photography.

What about drawing, painting, sculptures....? Can we make that kind of art?
