Pet Shop Boys: New album heavily influenced by Madonna

According to Digital Spy, the Pet Shop Boy's new album sounds like Madonna's first album allegedly. After listening to the first single from their album, 'Vocal', I'm struggling to hear any similarity to M's early sound.

Opening track Axis is classy — and inspired by Madonna.

Neil laughs: “Axis had a rubbish vocal at first. Then I pretended to be Madonna on Erotica and said it in an American accent. Now when I hear the voice at the start of the show, I don’t think of it as me but my alter-ego, ‘The Electric voice’.”

Well done, PSB. "Electric" is a fantastic album... and I hope Madonna also works with Stuart Price again! Love the cool mutual respect Madonna & PSB have with each other!

I was listening to Stuarts "Into The Night." It's fucking hot, and it makes me miss him. (though im glad she's working with new people)

She could have owned 2003 and 2004 if she had gone down the euro/french electro sound instead of doing it in a alternative/acoustic way for AL. She missed that boat. She tapped into it onto the Music album but I was hopping she'd explore it some more on AL. Oh well, we did get COADf which I love.

Anyway, here's to hopping that there will be a PSB collab in the future. It coulda happened on HC!

Their new album is so-so. Tracks like Inside a dream are jewels but others are really killed by stuart price's production that in part resembles "Sorry" and his extended and tired infra bass remixes.

PSB always had respect for Madonna just as much she said back in 85 that her favourite song of the year was "West end girls" (i'e always liked how you can see the desperately seeking susan" movie poster in the video when they pass by a theater but Neil Tennant always said that his number one song from the 80's was "Into the groove".

yes, the mutual admiration seems to have been there from the start doesn't it. Madonna & Pet Shop Boys are among only a handful of artists who have never really put a foot wrong imo.

I would love them to do an album together - vocal duties shared and all.

'Electric' is a superb album too, and I totally see the essence of 80's Madonna all over it - Thursday, Inside A Dream, and Bolshy are my highlights.

As much as I like the new PSB single I have to say I think Madonna should steer away from retro sounds of the 80's and 90's. Move into the future.

I have to say that Vocal as a stand alone single has really grown on me. I like it!

I am the only one who thinks that Their remix for Sorry wasn´t any good? I mean, it was a little bit lame...

I don't like it that much either. But i really like PSB's greatest hits album and i think a collaboration could be fire if they do the right song.

I have always loved the Pet shop Boys. Neil Tennant and Madonna actually go back a long way. He interviewed her for Smash Hits before she was a superstar and said he could hardly get a word in she talked so much. Madonna is also a huge fan of the Pet Shop boys. West End Girls is still one of the stand out songs of the 80's. Can you forgive her ? was brilliant as well.

I will have to get their new CD as always love their music.

I don't think they are publicity seeking. Stuart Price is connected to Madonna and and they have remixed her music and almost worked with her. She also paid homage to them on Jump. It's not the same as some random C lister mentioning Madonna to get a headline

The PSB have never sounded like Madonna. How absurd. They both make dance music but that's about it. And to say that Electric sounds like Madonna's debut is fucking laughable. UM NO HUNTY.
