Show Some Love

For the cover of "Hard Candy."

MADONNA-Hard-Candy.jpg

Confessions is the default answer for my favorite M cover and I'll never forget the day seeing this following the Confessions era. I was horrified! Shocked!

But isn't that what M has always been about. I'm not easily offended or shocked, but M has managed this several times throughout her career (never offended, but shocked). Today I see this cover as a very bold move — I hate using the word brave nowadays, but it is that too. She HAD to have known she'd get slack for this. Google Worst Album Covers and this pops up. LOL LOVE IT. Women her age don't do this, but M does.

Personally I think it's quite brilliant. It gets ppl talking and that's what "art" is supposed to do. Well done, M. I see what you did there.

I agree Sloane, it was a very bold thing to do and it got a lot of people talking! My personal dislike for this album cover is literally a personal thing because the first time I saw it I seriously thought it was Shirley from the UK soap Eastenders, no lie I actually gasped when I saw it was Madonna hahahahaha

I understand why people love it but not my fave.

As a new fan fresh off Confessions, when I saw this in the store, I obviously wanted it. When I asked my mom for it, she was like "uh, no" after looking at the cover. :rotfl: and I remember feeling so embarrassed when the lady was scanning it, I felt like I was buying porn or something :rotfl: I was only like sixteen at the time.

Now, I don't even care. The album could have had a better cover, but I do love it for what it's worth. It's raunchy, sexy and unsexy, and kinda vulgar. Suits Madonna well. :rotfl:

She looks fine, but as a composition the background and the words capture too much attention...misslead my hazel eyes

I loved it since the day 0. Better than Kaballastions

THIS. It's Madonna all over and I love every pixel of it!

Its brilliant. ITS BOLD. IT MAKES YOU LOOK AT IT. ITS A VERY HARD album cover, with candy in the background. Think about it... good grief.

The thread is SHOW SOME LOVE.

I really like it.

On the OTHER hand. After reading about the "origins" of it, it's harder for me to LOVE it. The 3 (THREE) different photoshoots and last minute "candy swirl" background makes it seem like Madonna didn't have a pure, clear vision of what she wanted. It seems like Madonna, Warner Bros. and company scrambled at the last minute for a cover.

BUT, again, I really like the end product. This exactly why I don't always want to know ALL the behind the scenes stuff.

I know I'm in a very small minority, but I loved the extremely raunchy photoshoot with the body wrap and the granny thong. :inlove:/> I would have prefered that for the album cover to be honest.

It's plain awful end of. That background, the font, the make-up. The original image with its boxing flyer background is much much better. It's a horrible messy rushed disaster. M should have kept it the way it was or scrapped it and incorporated her candy theme into a new photoshot. Even the Tom Munro ELLE shoot whluldve worked better.

I love all the initial photoshoots for this era, including the "mummy wrap" one! Even when they're not photoshopped. She looks incredible.

Agreed the HC cover worked MUCH better as a Give It To Me project instead of this last minute candy idea. It's a shame that didn't happen.

The first time I saw the HC album cover I started laughing hysterically. I truly didn't expect anything quite like that from her at that stage in her career. I never understood how anyone could look at that cover and take it seriously, or be disappointed that she looks "tacky" and the design looks "cheap". I think that's precisely the point. She wasn't going for "pretty" or even tasteful necessarily. It looks like she was going for "crude". The RAY OF LIGHTERS ;) took it as she was trying to be "hot" to appeal to the kids....lol.....sorry, but I don't think she's THAT clueless.

I just wish she had really followed through with the silly-but-kind-of-serious-but-thoroughly-tongue-in-cheek candy-sex-boxing-old-whore thing with buckets of conviction.
