The artist herself would later dismiss the post-disco pop on her debut as "aerobics music." But it didn't just succeed in introducing the most important female voice in the history of modern music, it's also aged much better sonically than Like A Virgin, her blockbuster 1984 follow-up. Loaded with hits like "Borderline" and "Holiday" (the latter produced by her then-boyfriend, John "Jellybean" Benitez) and the great communal anthem "Everybody," it put downtown New York electro grooves all over the Top 40. Fun fact: it also works great as aerobics music.

97. DJ Shadoww, 'Entroducing....'

98. Joe Jackson, 'Look Sharp!'

99. The Flying Burrito Brothers,'The Gilded Palace of Sin'

100. Lady Gaga, 'The Fame'

I will just focus on the bolded part, since it's the main truth.

I don't know, so many of these on the list are magnificent and self aware works by a proper artist. M's debut is good, but offers no hints of how amazing she has been.

The thing with lists is that it's impossible to please everyone. Of course I would've put Madonna higher in the rank, but some of them are interesting choices...

Overall, yet another fail list.

Guest Rachelle of London

Should be in the top ten, it may not be Ms greatest album but its iconic status alone guarantees it a spot in the top ten

Licensed To Ill #1? :# That alone zaps ANY credibility from yet 'another' shit list LOL. Sad someone actually gets paid prob. pretty decent $ for 'their shit' opinion lol.

No Bjork - Debut? No Sugababes? No Terence Trent? No Sinead? No Tracy fucking Chapman? Madonna #96? The Beatles first is their worst!

Whoever makes these lists must be on drugs bad drugs. It must just give them something to do on a Tuesday afternoon and they can finish early when its done. I dont know whether you could include it but... no 'off the wall'???

These lists are always such bullshit. Even if they put your favs higher up on some lists...the rest are always still so ... off.

And I'm probably going to piss some folks off when I say this...but these lists always seem to be written by middle-aged straight white guys.

The rockers are usually always dominating the top of the lists.

Non-white artists barely crack the top, sans a few.

It's pretty much male-dominated at the top.

And the pop / dance / r&b artists are always towards the bottom.

I can't be the only one who always notices that with these kinds of lists...

Exactly. That list is ridiculous in so many ways. Madonna should've been on the top 20 AT LEAST if not top 10.

but rolling stone has been pro gaga right? i think its only NME (? if im not mistaken ..) who is fairly critical of her and anyone

They're always kissing her ass, she's been on the cover three (?) times in four years

^ Please. We all obviously remember it.

But yes, BTW above LAP is ridiculous.

Uhhh... 96?? Get a grip.

And, not Madonna, but where the Hell is Jagged Little Pill? Did I miss it?

JLP wasn't her debut.
