HITS:

COLDPLAY, LIL WAYNE VIE FOR #1: Either a classic U.K. rock band or a N’awlins rapper will top next week’s HITS Album sales chart as Capitol’s Coldplay appears to hold a slight edge over Lil’ Wayne with what looks like between 225k-240k, compared to the latter’s 215-225k. Disney’s Camp Rock will be #3 at 180-190k, with the week’s pair of Top 5 debuts, Eleven Seven/Motley Records’ Motley Crue (100-105k) and Columbia’s Three 6 Mafia (70-75k), up next. Capitol’s Now 28 follows at 55-60k, with LaFace/ZLG’s Usher at 50-55k. Atlantic’s Florida grunge rockers Shinedown bow at #7 with 40-45k, a similar total as Slip-N-Slide/Atlantic’s Plies, Def Jam/ILG’s Rihanna and Reprise’s Disturbed. (6/27p)

I don't understand why Madonna albums have a habit of sudden death. COADF was doing well and then all of a sudden it fell to #40, and then the same thing with Hard Candy the week of Father's Day. I mean, I know her days of superstardom in America are over and we don't expect her albums to have the legs LAV and TB did. But it's odd how her albums seem to be trucking on and holding on well for several weeks, and then suddenly plummets off the face of the planet.

Well HU did decent business in America and once that was done nothing else pushed the album (though the tour did help it stick around a bit longer.) 4 Minutes was huge, but once that died out.......there has been nothing, and GI2M doesnt seem to be catching on at all, so expect it to keep dropping like a rock.

I am just shocked at Kid Rocks album. Its been out forever at this point. What is pushing it right now!? His new single isnt getting that much play is it?

^ good point. Its all relative. "AL #s" in 2008 would be at least 100k-150k less in the same week than what HC has right now. HC is gonna come very close to ALs total #s. itll be very close, but I think when it comes down to the final HC #s, and compared to 2003 typical and expected "decent" record sales, HCs final US #s will reign supreme. face it 500k in '08 is like 1-1.5 million in 2003 lol

yes, but after about two months of being in the top 20, the album suddenly fell out of the top 40 and never came back. And the same thing is happening to Hard Candy after staying in the top 15 for about six or seven weeks. Just check the chart runs of the album, COADF started to fall drastically about two months in. It went from #24 to #60 in two weeks

I don't see Kid Rock's appeal, he sucks at rap, he sucks at rock, he sucks at country. The only song I can even tolerate of his is Picture and that's only because of Sheryl Crow

he makes PUSSY AND BEER music :dramatic:

most rock bands are very emo-ish and so he appeals to the people who still love Southern Rock music... basically rednecks who love to chase pusy and drink beer

Next week from HITS:

NO CHART FIREWORKS THIS WEEK

Coldplay, Lil Wayne and Camp Rock Will Dominate, With G-Unit, Mayer the Top Debuts

Don’t expect too many fireworks at music retail over the Fourth of July weekend.

Coldplay’s Capitol Music Group album Viva La Vida, Lil Wayne’s Cash Money/Universal Motown release Tha Carter III and Disney’s Camp Rock soundtrack will once again dominate next week’s chart, according to one-day sales reports from around the good ole U.S. of A as it prepares to celebrate its 232nd birthday in high style.

There will be some debuts, however, headed by Interscope 50 Cent posse G-Unit, which should finish just behind the big three with a one-week total of 110k for its new album, T.O.S. (Terminate on Sight), their first in five years. Columbia serial dater John Mayer is up next with his new CD/DVD live album, Where the Light Is, which should do around 70k.

Veteran Kansas City rapper Tech N9ne return with Killer, on his own Strange Music label, distributed through UMGD’s Fontana, which looks like it could do 40k. Epic’s Chicago proto-punks Alkaline Trio are back with their major label debut, Agony and Irony, with a target of 35k in first-week sales.

Disney High School Musical ingénue (and Zac Efron squeeze) Vanessa Hudgens is in the 25-30k area for her new Hollywood Records solo album, Identified. Koch rapper Jim Jones’ Back 2 Back looks headed for 20k in sales, followed by Epic’s Los Lonely Boys’ third solo album, Forgiven, at 15-20k.

The market was down 8% vs. last week, down 13% vs. same week last year and now down 11% year-to-date.

I was very surprised to see New Zealand Brooke Fraser is #6 at Itunes with her American debut.

It would be great to see two NZ acts score big in the US this year, the other being Flight of The Conchords who debuted at #3 earlier this year.
