4 Minutes USA Airplay: Mediabase (part 2)

Reality check:

If Madonna would have always just satisfied a smaller group of audience and never try to get some new... then she would either be without a record deal today or at least she would have never been the major artist she is today.

She did exactly the same with HU, it was aimed to get her back on top... no one complained then...

why some people cant take criticism? I dont think 4 minutes is great either. And HU was more Madonna style, we all know that

It is good she tried something new, but in MY opinion, I wish she tried something else other than RnB and Timbaland cause thats what everyone is doing at the moment so it isnt very inspiring.

The song is doing really well considering the lack of radio support that she has received for the last two albums. Madonna has never been one to follow a certain music style. If you listen to her back catalog you will see that she has tried and been successful at everything from Pop, AC, RnB, and even hip hop. Her first album is an example of RnB, Hip hop on Like a Prayer (Keep it Together), Erotica, Bedtime Stories. She has done Latin (La Isla Bonita, Who's That Girl, Spanish Eyes, You'll See). Those are to name a few. And she plays with song arrangement in her live show too. Madonna is not the type of artist to recycle a formula and repackage it in a so called new album. What should she conform to what you call Madonna style. She is accomplished beyond her years and has the right to do whatever style of music she is inspire to do regardless of what is considered in or not.

Madonna took what you consider everyone is doing and made it her own. Don't take away the fact that she is the mastermind behind everything she does regardless of whom she is working with.

With 1 day to go, here's how Usher, Mariah, Jordin, Leona & Madonna look on the building Hot 100 Airplay chart:

No. 1 - Usher (+6.1 million)

No. 2 - Mariah (+3.0 million)

No. 5 - Jordin (+18.9 million)

No. 10 - Leona (+13.1 million)

No. 31 - Madonna (+5.9 million)

Usher and Mariah continue to track at No. 1 and No. 2 over on Hot R&B Airplay as well. And Jordin is already tracking at No. 19.

Radio Ushers in new No. 1

In one of the tighter three-way battles for the top the national radio airplay audience chart has witnessed, Usher's Love in This Club emerges triumphant at No. 1, up from No. 2. It actually gains a little ground on Mariah Carey's Touch My Body, which nonetheless rises from No. 3 to edge Chris Brown's six-week No. 1, With You, for runner-up honors.

The next two hits are also unusually strong -- Ray J's Sexy Can I at No. 4 and the Jordin Sparks/Chris Brown duet, No Air, which enjoys a huge total audience increase and moves up to the top 5 from No. 8.

Rounding out the top 10 are Sara Bareilles' Love Song (slightly up), Flo Rida's Low (down) Rihanna's Don't Stop the Music (down), Timbaland & OneRepublic's Apologize (down but not yet out) and the debut of Leona Lewis' Bleeding Love, which leaps into the top 10 from No. 19.

The usual mix of detail, fact and speculation follows.

> The annotated top 10:

1-2 last week Usher, Love in This Club (up 5.9% in total audience): After Mariah crept close to Usher last week, Usher widens the gap a little, from around 5 million total impressions to 8 million, probably assuring at least another week at No. 1.

2-3 Mariah Carey, Touch My Body (+4.0%): Is this a No. 1 (airplay) record? (Obviously, it's a No. 1 download record, as of last week's record-breaking performance.) Usher may be strong enough to lock it out, and Ray J and Jordin Sparks may be in line to overtake it.

3-1 Chris Brown, With You (-6.0%): A great run is concluded; now it's getting out of the way of the hot new blood.

4-4 Ray J, Sexy Can I (+6.8%): Another very strong week with not much to show for it on the chart, but it should pass Chris Brown next week. The question is, will it be passed in turn by Jordin Sparks?

5-8 Jordin Sparks, No Air (+30.4%): An extraordinary increase for a record this high on the chart, and you've got to wonder how high its ceiling now becomes. (Having Chris Brown duetting doesn't hurt either.)

6-6 Sara Bareilles, Love Song (+3.7%): Deprived of its chance to jump back into the top 5 by Sparks' explosion, it may have peaked.

7-5 Flo Rida, Low (-6.0%): Hanging tough, declining at a slower rate than last week.

8-7 Rihanna, Don't Stop the Music (-8.0%): Also slowed its decline a bit, and looks to have another week in the top 10 ahead.

9-9 Timbaland & OneRepublic, Apologize (-3.5%): Cut its rate of decline almost in half, but the writing's on the wall -- this should be its last week in the top 10.

10-19 Leona Lewis, Bleeding Love (+34.8%): The New Mariah (copyright Simon Cowell, 2008) has a debut with another seemingly infinite ceiling. Huge jump this week.

> Next week's top 10 contenders: Probably just one, but it's a sure-shot. Lil' Wayne's Lollipop leaps 27-12 on the chart with the biggest audience increase percentage of the week (48.5%). It should be up there competing with Leona Lewis and maybe Jordin Sparks and Ray J when Usher and Mariah conclude their battle for No. 1.

> Hottest songs this week:

Lil' Wayne, Leona and Jordin have already come under scrutiny. The other three big gainers are Danity Kane's Damaged (up 38.1%, second best for the week, and soaring 97-64 on the chart); Ashanti's The Way That I Love You (+31.5%, 68-48) and Madonna's 4 Minutes (+22.9%, 48-34).:boxing:;)

> This week's debuts on the top 100:

Carrie Underwood's Last Name tops a list of eight debuts, entering at No. 79. Right behind it (80) is Raheem DeVaughn's Customer, followed by Mana's Si No Te Hubieras Ido at 88, Montgomery Gentry's Back When I Knew It All at 89, 3 Doors Down's It's Not My Time at 90, Plies' Bust It Baby at 93, Dierks Bentley's Trying to Stop Your Leaving at 96 and Trey Songz' Last Time at 98. Over and out.

I don't think people were upset about the chart prospects of this new direction, they just didn't really like the style of music -- and many still don't.

Frankly I'd much rather have great music than big chart hits!

I can't agree more!

I'm happy because that's a hit but sadly, the song is still average to me.

The thing I love about music is that it evokes so many different feelings in people! I absolutely love the song and can't get enough of it! It just keeps sounding better and better to me and I love the video. Does it make me happy that it's turning into a massive hit as well? Absolutely, but that doesn't affect my enjoyment of the song at all. All it means is that plenty of other people feel the same way as I do about it

wow! 4M is finally reaching the 40M AI mark in just a month ??? of release and couple that with high downlaods, #1 is a sure possibility!!!

but i think we can expect a #2 for 4 Minutes this week in the Hot100 as AI for TMB is still strong...

but the best week 4M can be #1 is next week as AI for 4M is steadily increasing and downloads is still high.

Bye Bye is being released next Tuesday on iTunes after she performs the song on Oprah. Their plan is for Bye Bye to replace TMB at #1 in 2 weeks.

They are seriously obsessed :scared:

E=MC2 is the worst album by a major artist i've heard in a long time

TMB is one of the worst first singles i've heard by a major artist in a long time

Bye Bye is even worse

I just can't get it

Sorry US... but you must have some of the dumbest people on earth... this would have never worked elsewhere

She has a team that cares about her chart performance. Mariah was the first artist to release a song on a Monday. If Madonna would have waited a bit to release the song on iTunes it would have hit #1 for sure. M's team doesn't care about charts. I even mentioned this a few weeks ago at this forum. I was wondering why Madonna released 2 minutes so early on iTunes. Waiting would have ensured a US #1. Oh well.

Mariah is releasing the safe stuff first that will sell the album.

the song (Bye Bye) is barely on radio... so she'll have to rely on obsessed LAMBS to download it for her... which they will... but does it mean people will care or know about the song? nope... it's like she only wants those #1... her songs will be forgotten in less than a year... I dunno... it's just so meaningless

what safe stuff first? her whole album is safe stuff... she always plays it safe... there's nothing interesting or unique what so ever on that album...

I had this talk with a girl about music and our tastes. I mentioned that I do not like Mariblah at all and she said "Why? I like her. She has good songs". Then I asked her to remember a couple of Mariblah's hits and she couldn't remember any at all!!! I guess she is really forgetable even by the people who like her... :demonic:

I don't think the problem was WB this time. Madonna has proved she can be #1 in sales. It's just a matter of airplay and there is nothing can be done about that. Sad.
