This is definitely one of her most controlled and mesmerizing LIVE vocals.
Sorry for the aside, but I just have to say the Confessions version of "Drowned World" is to die for
-
Looove the Miami Mix!
I know everyone likes to bitch that she was robbed of a number one hit in the U.S. by the way her label handled "Into the Groove," but everyone seems to forget that Warner Bros. robbed her of a sure-fire number one with this.
After "You Must Love Me" failed to become the mega hit everyone expected it to be, Warners released "DCFMA" as a radio-only release -- at a time when Billboard did not allow radio-only singles to chart on the Hot 100. They seemed surprised that "DCFMA" became a monstrous radio hit and tried to get a single ready for sale -- but could only manage to get a maxi-single out, and even then it wasn't in stores until two months after the song peaked on radio ...

YouTube prompted me to watch another song after watching this clip again -- and I ended up watching the whole geisha section. It's the most brilliant thing she's ever done on stage. Just complete fucking perfection.
Does anyone remember what show it was when her wig wasn't on right and she yanked it off for the first time? Was it one of the London shows? Or Paris?
-
Yes, it is. I would have had some other track instead of Candy Perfume and never liked Nobody's Perfect. But the rest is simply FLAWLESS.
The Silly Song, hahaha. Remember so many, many, many years ago in Dotmusic those who moaned because they didn't understand why she choose to sing a silly song instead of an oldie???? She's really a TROLL.
"The Silly Song" and "Nobody's Perfect" are probably the only parts of the show that I don't absolutely, completely fucking LOVE.
But "Candy Perfume Girl?!" Karbs, no. "CPG" is perfection.
One of my all time fav moments of her career
Fucking perfect. I remember when she brought the tour to the U.S. and dropped "Gone" for "You'll See." I was so excited to see "You'll See" live ...
But then I saw the show. She did "Gone." And it was just perfect.
I always wanted to hear Open your heart live but MDNA version was a disaster
Agreed 1000 percent. One of the worst reinventions of her career.

1. Blond Ambition
2. RIT
3. Confessions

I love the "Open Your Heart" tease. It's just perfect.
Rumor at the time was that "OYH" was rehearsed to be a full performance in the geisha section, and was dropped at the last minute. It would have been incredible to see -
True but convention would dictate the the song listed first be sort of the main song, and Madonna has said she's excited to perform Holy Water multiple times so I would doubt it being short.
We can't draw any conclusions from this setlist, if it's real. We don't know if "Holy Water" / "Vogue" is meant to be a mash-up or a medley (like "Live to Tell" / "Oh Father") or just a short sample (like "Open Your Heart" / "Frozen" in Sticky).
-
She did it a bit better in France
Of course she did it better in France -- she rehearsed it that time!
I love acoustic "Virgin." I wish she'd do on tour.
-
PERFECTION
The "American Life" promo tour is EVERYTHING.
-
"Bedtime Stories."
The smash hit trio of "I'll Remember," "Secret," and "Take a Bow" got me. And then I got "Something to Remember" and heard "I Want You" and I damn near fainted
But it really wasn't until "Frozen" that I became obsessed. Thank God the internet was coming alive at that time so I could track down other super fans.
-
She's now confirmed that four of the songs she's tagged #rebelhearttour are in the final setlist. I think we're going to get all those songs in the final show.

'Garth' has ratings in high places
By Scott Hettrick
HBO's "Garth: Live From Central Park" on Thursday was the highest-rated original program on the network this year and drew the biggest audience of any HBO concert special in three years.
The network plans to rerun the program at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, and, at Garth Brooks' request, offer it free to all basic cable subscribers. "Garth" drew an average of 3.9 million households and nearly 7 million viewers during the 90-minute program.
The special broadcast of the Brooks show, which drew an estimated 250,000 concertgoers in New York, was the fifth-most-watched concert in HBO history, behind the nearly 8 million viewers who watched "Madonna: Blond Ambition" in 1990, the 7.9 million who saw "Whitney: Welcome Home, Heroes" in March 1991, the 7.3 million who watched "Michael Jackson: Live From Bucharest" in 1992, and the 7.1 million viewers who watched "Barbra Streisand: The Concert" in 1994.
Eight million viewers! This must be one of the most-watched programs ever -- live event, concert or otherwise. All the more impressive since HBO had fewer subscribers in 1990.
"The Sopranos" series got 12 million viewers and is, I believe, their most-watch program ever.
I wonder how many people watched the Girlie Show and Drowned World.

GREAT interview, thank you for posting!
-
Incredible. Love it. Love everything about it.
Was sad to see it go in 2009, but "Dress You Up" was fucking amazing too
-
"Candy Shop" -- love it. Agree with M that it should have been the lead single
-
LOVE it. This is one that should have been on the album.
-
"Where's the Party" doesn't count since it was done on the WTG tour, and "Candy Shop" was done already on S&S.
However, it was quite interesting that "Paradise (Not for Me)" was upgraded from video interlude in DWT to full performance two hours later.
Ah, I though you were just talking about non-singles that were included in later shows. My bad.
-
You're right about that!
I guess I'm Going Bananas in TGS, RIT's Bedtime Stories interlude and MDNA's inclusion of Cyber-Raga and Celebration are the only exceptions to that rule (as far as I remember, Celebration was released just before the 2009 leg of S&S started).
Let's not forget "Where's the Party" on Blond Ambition, "Lament" on Re-Invention, "Paradise" on Confessions, and "Candy Shop" on MDNA (though this one maybe shouldn't count because it was mixed with "Erotica").
-
You can never be too blond... or too ambitious...
Perfection. Keep them coming, Mattress. I could look at this stuff all day.
-
I though the footage in the GMTV report from RIT opening night was fairly good.
RIT
Opening with "Vogue" was a stroke a genius on that tour. The footage was everywhere. Washed away all the bad press from "American Life."
I don't remember the press being quite so taken with Confessions or Sticky. Maybe I wasn't paying as much attention to the media then.
-
Are those recent pics of Cloud? He'd be hotter if he had a lil more meat on him.
Yeah, agreed. I had such a crush on Cloud back during Re-Invention, which came right the middle of my twink phase. Now, I look at him and think "Put on 10 pounds."
-
For Cloud's fans:
Ha! That's actually pretty funny.
-
This demo is a goddamn treasure.
Good Lord, that outro
I understand now what Shep is talking about in the "Erotica" diaries when he complains about not wanting to put "La Isla Bonita" in the bridge. The piano break is divine.
For years "Deeper and Deeper" was my favorite Madonna track. It was the first Madonna single I ever owned -- As a baby gay, I swiped the cassette tape from my mother!
-
The Grammys she should be getting are the Living Legend Grammy (Jackson got one of these in the early 90s) and Lifetime Achievement award (maybe too young for this). Put Like a Prayer in the Grammy Hall of Fame!
That "Like a Prayer" got ZERO Grammy nominations proves this award is useless. Rolling Stone declared it was as close to art as pop music gets -- and these fucks can't even toss it a nomination.
Only thing Grammys are good for is positive buzz. "ROL" and "Music" got a chart bump for their nominations / shows, but it shouldn't matter a whit to fans whether or not it won a damn one.
Time for another one of my THE GIRLIE SHOW amazingness threads

I absolutely love the Girlie Show. God, everything about it.
This was far and away the best band she ever worked with. Did they do all of her 1993 live stuff, like Arsenio and SNL?
